The name of the material used for the hairspring. A type of stainless steel alloy. The name comes from the German phrase "Nicht Variable Oxydfest" (does not change or oxidize). Nivarox is divided into Anachron, Nivarox 1, Nivarox 2, and Nivarox 3, in order of best performance. Developed by Dr. Straumann in 1933, it is an Elinvar-based material with cobalt, nickel, chromium, etc. added to enhance elasticity. It is also resistant to temperature changes. It is manufactured by Nivarox-Far, which was established in 1984 through the merger of Nivarox SA and FAR SA.
