A balance wheel is a complete set of balance wheels made of multiple materials. This component was often found in luxury watches before the 1940s. It generally has a balance wheel rim made of bonded iron and brass, and has the ability to self-correct in response to temperature changes. Incidentally, the Guillaume balance wheel seen in observatory chronometers is also a type of bimetallic balance wheel.
