Watch Terminology Dictionary

A watch's functionality remains intact even when submerged in water. Overseas, a watch is considered waterproof if it is water resistant to 30m (approximately 3 atmospheres) or more. Waterproof watch standards are strictly set by NIHS92-10 (Switzerland) or ISO-2281 (excluding Switzerland and Japan). In Japan, a watch that is water resistant to 2-3 atmospheres is considered a water resistant watch for everyday use (JIS Class 1 water resistant watch), and a watch that is water resistant to 5 atmospheres or more is considered a reinforced water resistant watch for everyday use (JIS Class 2 water resistant watch).
