A mechanism in which the hours, minutes, seconds, calendar display, etc. are immediately reset to zero and restarted after they have been displayed to their fullest. Currently, this mechanism is a specialty of brands such as Franck Muller, Pierre Kunz, and Gerald Genta (now Bulgari). Because it is a mechanism that is prone to displaying incorrectly due to impact, it is not widely used, including in pocket watches. Gerald Genta and Svend Andersen both adopted retrograde perpetual calendars. The latter's design had a major influence on their apprentice, Franck Muller.
