Péquigné's Royal Saphir Perlage: A next-generation calendar elevated to an icon

The Calibre Royal, born in 2011 under the French Manufacture, was a movement worthy of being called the next generation. Now, this masterpiece has become an icon.

　French watch brand Péquigne has released the Japan-exclusive model "Royal Saphir Perlage."

The Royal collection was launched in 2011 and is equipped with the in-house developed movement, the Calibre Royal (EPM01). This movement has two merits. First, it was a French manufacture entering the fray at a time when Swiss brands were fiercely competing to develop their own movements. Second, it stands out from other companies' core calibers thanks to its unique internationally patented designs, including the efficient "center shaft drive" system and the "flat three-disc jumping day-date" with adjacent date and day discs. It's also worth noting that there are no time periods during which the calendar cannot be operated.

　With the Royal Saphir Perlage, the Calibre Royal has entered a stage where it is elevated not only as an "excellent movement" but also as an icon. By eliminating the dial, this masterpiece is made visible and becomes the design code for this watch. The exposed baseplate is also decorated with a perlage pattern, and each disc is accented with a pale pink. The brand logo, seconds track, and other indications that were previously on the dial are printed on the back of the sapphire crystal, so as not to interfere with the design of the masterpiece. While the excellent use of color and the shape of the parts are also worth noting, the design strongly asserts that the Calibre Royal movement is the main focus.

　The white printing on the crystal does impair visibility, but this is an icon for watch enthusiasts who appreciate the pleasure of mechanical movements over practicality.

A fair featuring the Péquigné "Royal" collection will be held

　The French manufacture is unstoppable. Péquigné launched the manual-winding Calibre Royal Manual (EPM02) in 21, followed by the more basic automatic Calibre Initiale (EPM03) in 21. The brand continues to expand its collection as part of a brand strategy aimed at a wide range of customers.

　A fair bringing together the Péquigné Royal Collection will be held at Matsuzakaya Nagoya. The aforementioned Royal Saphir Down White is currently out of stock in Japan, but the fair will feature models such as the special Royal Paris Tricolore Calendar, limited to just 33 pieces worldwide, the Royal Saphir with a shaded gray dial that was released in 24, and the 18K rose gold Royal Saphir Perlage, which has been certified as a chronometer by the Besançon Observatory.
