　Seiko has developed tough watches that can continue to perform at a high level even in extreme environments, such as providing a high-precision stopwatch for the international sporting event held in Tokyo in 1964 and releasing the first Japanese-made diver's watch in 65. The brand that most strongly inherits this DNA is Seiko Prospex.

Marinemaster 1965 Mechanical Diver's Modern Design SBEN007

　The first recommendation was the Marinemaster 1965 Mechanical Diver's Modern Design SBEN007. It is a new model that was just released in December 2023. It incorporates the design codes of the 62MAS, Japan's first domestically produced diver's watch, released in 1965, while being given a modern finish.

　The large square indexes are perhaps the most striking reflection of the original design. Generously coated with luminous paint, they ensure excellent visibility even underwater or in dark places. Another distinctive feature is the sharp case lines, which lack a crown guard. The combination of satin and polished finishes creates a three-dimensional effect.

　The modern feel is achieved through the blue dial with a unique pattern, the unidirectional rotating bezel with grooves on the side for increased grip, and the bracelet for a flexible fit. The movement is equipped with the Cal. 6L37, a thin mechanical automatic movement developed for divers' watches, and is the first divers' watch from the company to feature a see-through case back.

1968 Mechanical Diver Modern Design GMT SBEJ009

　This is the first Seiko Prospex diver's watch to feature a GMT function. The powerful case design is based on the company's diver's watch, which was released in 1968 and featured a high-beat movement. The crown is located at 4:30 to prevent interference with the wrist.

　The watch features a green dial and bezel, but the subdued color scheme makes it suitable for adding a touch of individuality to business settings. The GMT hand is gold, and in conjunction with the 24-hour display on the flange, it allows the user to read a second time zone. This GMT hand can be adjusted independently. The "GMT" lettering at 6 o'clock on the dial is also gold, matching the function and display, demonstrating the attention to detail that has gone into improving usability.

Speedtimer Mechanical Chronograph SBEC021

　The Speedtimer Mechanical Chronograph SBEC021 is a retro-inspired chronograph, inspired by the 1972 chronograph equipped with the automatic mechanical movement Cal. 6138.

　The retro white-silver dial is paired with a black subdial, creating a "panda" color scheme. It features a small seconds at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock. The three chronograph hands have orange tips for improved visibility. The large push buttons and crown provide excellent operability, allowing you to enjoy controlling the chronograph.

1965 Mechanical Diver, Modern Design, Save the Ocean Model SBDC165

　This model, which joins the Seiko Prospex "Save the Ocean" collection, features a refreshing deep blue dial and a distinctive dial pattern inspired by the magnificent glaciers that spread across the polar regions.

　Its sharp case form and square indexes are a modern remake of the design of the first Japanese-made diver's watch, released by the company in 65. It boasts 200m water resistance with a screw-down crown, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and large indexes for high legibility, while also featuring a simple design that makes it easy to wear both on and off the job. The case back is inscribed with the words "SPECIAL EDITION," adding to its special feel.

　This model is inspired by the "Speedtimer" chronograph watch series, which was popular from the 69s to the 70s. Its compact 39mm case features a green dial and a black bezel for a clean, sleek look. Powered by a light-powered quartz movement, it eliminates the need for regular battery changes, making it easy to use and more affordable than mechanical chronographs.

　The three subdials are a 24-hour display at 3 o'clock, a remaining charge indicator and 60-minute chronograph counter at 6 o'clock, and a small seconds at 9 o'clock. A full charge lasts for approximately six months, so it's unlikely the watch will run out of power, but being able to visually check the remaining charge is reassuring. High visibility thanks to luminous hands and indexes, enhanced water resistance for everyday use up to 10 bar, and a date display at 4:30 o'clock enhance its practicality, making it suitable for a wide range of occasions, from outdoor activities to business.
