What is the Tudor Black Bay 58?

The Tudor Black Bay has a variety of derivative collections, including the Black Bay 58. Let's first take a deeper look at the Black Bay 58 to understand its features and appeal.

A model that pays homage to classic models of the past

The Black Bay 58 is a watch that pays homage to Tudor's diver's watch, the Ref. 7924. The number "58" refers to the year 1958, when the Ref. 7924 was released.

The Ref. 7924 was also Tudor's first model to achieve 200m water resistance. Nicknamed "Big Crown" after the size of its crown, this model features a domed dial and thin lugs.

The Black Bay 58 was released in the 60th anniversary year of the birth of the "Ref. 7924" in 1958. The case size and distinctive proportions are faithfully inherited from the original model.

Perfect size

The most distinctive feature of the Black Bay 58 is its 39mm case size, a size that was common in diver's watches from the 1950s and 1960s.

Typical diver's watches have large case sizes, with many men's watch models exceeding 40mm in diameter.

The 39mm case diameter is an excellent size that fits many Japanese men. The case thickness and overall weight of the watch are also kept to a minimum, making it easy to wear on a daily basis.

Reliable movement

Cal.MT5400, Cal.MT5402

Manufacture movements Cal. MT5400 (left) and Cal. MT5402 (right). They feature a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and high magnetic resistance thanks to a silicon balance spring. They are high-performance movements that combine robustness, durability, reliability, and precision.

The Black Bay 58 has been equipped with the in-house movements Cal. MT5400 and Cal. MT5402. These two movements boast a long power reserve of approximately 70 hours and are both COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing) certified, ensuring their high accuracy.

Furthermore, in 2024, the Caliber MT5450-U with a GMT function will be released, followed the following year by the Caliber MT5400-U with a basic three-hand, no-date design. These movements are Master Chronometer-certified by METAS (Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). The arrival of these movements, which have passed stringent testing criteria, including a magnetic resistance rating of 15,000 gauss, further enhances Tudor's presence in the watch market.

Some Black Bay 58 models come with a transparent case back, which is rare for a diver's watch, allowing you to see the movement in action.

Versatile enough to go with any fashion

ブラックベイ 58

The Black Bay 58, with its elegant size, texture, and color, is perfectly suited to business situations.

One of the great attractions of the Black Bay 58 is its versatility, which means it can be worn with any outfit. Its sophisticated, classic design looks natural even when paired with a suit.

Another attractive feature of some models is that they come with interchangeable straps in addition to the metal bracelet, allowing you to enjoy combining them with the watch body to suit your style and situation.

Tudor was one of the first brands to adopt fabric straps for its watches, and these straps, made using traditional French techniques, have now become a part of the brand's identity.

Black Bay 58 Bronze

The Black Bay 58 Bronze comes with a complementary jacquard fabric strap.

Tudor Black Bay 58, Ref. M7939ALA0RU-0001

Tudor Black Bay 58, Ref. M7939ALA0RU-0001
Automatic movement (Cal. MT5400-U). 28,800 vph. Power reserve: approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 39mm, thickness 11.7mm). Water resistant to 200m. Price: 718,300 yen (tax included).

Tudor's latest model, the Black Bay 58, was announced in 2025. Not only did it feature an eye-catching burgundy bezel and dial, but it also attracted a lot of attention when it was released as a three-hand Black Bay 58 model equipped with the Master Chronometer-certified Caliber MT5400-U.

As mentioned above, the Master Chronometer certification is a watch certification system that requires strict quality standards, such as being unaffected by magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss or more, and currently the only watch brands that have obtained this standard are Omega and Tudor.

Furthermore, due to the change in the movement, the thickness has been slightly reduced from the previous Black Bay 58 to 11.9mm.

It is also worth noting that, combined with the aluminum bezel, domed sapphire crystal, and the five-link bracelet, which is being used for the first time in this series, this watch has the latest performance while also having a retro feel.

Black Bay 58 GMT, Ref. M7939G1A0NRU

Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT

Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT, Ref. M7939G1A0NRU-0001
Automatic movement (Cal. MT5450-U). 34 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 65 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 39mm, thickness 12.8mm). Water resistant to 200m. Price: 742,500 yen (tax included).

On the other hand, this is the new Black Bay 58 GMT, which joined the collection in 2024. It is also equipped with the Master Chronometer-certified Caliber MT5450-U, which has a magnetic resistance of 15,000 gauss. Of course, it also excels in precision, robustness, and reliability.

Another notable feature of this watch is that it combines a GMT function with a fast-forward date function. GMT watches that adjust a second time zone by moving the hour hand generally do not have a fast-forward date function. This is because moving the date backward would break the spring that fast-forwards the date. However, the Cal. MT5450-U not only achieves both, but also has a safety feature that ensures that if you move the hands forward again immediately after moving the hands backward to set the date, the date will change slowly rather than quickly.

The design, such as the black and red aluminum bezel that is reminiscent of vintage watches, will also appeal to watch enthusiasts.

The reference M79030N-0001 is the first model of the Black Bay 58, released in 2018. 2018 was the year that Tudor first arrived in Japan, and this model quickly became Tudor's flagship model.

The Arabic numerals on the bezel and the red accent color at 12 o'clock give the watch a vintage look. The movement is equipped with the Cal. MT5402, which has a bidirectional rotor system.

The hour and second hands feature Tudor's signature snowflake design.

The brand's iconic snowflake hands were first adopted in 1969 and were used by the French Navy on military watches at the time.

The Black Bay 58 925 is a model whose case, crown, and bezel are made of 925 silver, a material often used in classic watches, and is said to be less prone to the darkening that is characteristic of silver.

The taupe dial, bezel, and strap are a classic and elegant color. Taupe means "mole" in French, and the color is a brownish-gray hue.

The Black Bay 58 925 is the first in the collection to feature a transparent case back, allowing the movement of the manufacture movement, Cal. MT5400, to be admired through the case back.

The Black Bay 58 Bronze's bronze case is inspired by ancient ships and diving equipment, and the bezel and bracelet are also made of bronze.

It features a design without crown guards, which can also be seen in Tudor's first diver's watch, and is the only Black Bay 58 model to feature the numerals 3, 6, and 9 on the dial.

The bracelet features a "T-fit" quick-adjust clasp, a unique Tudor adjustment system that allows the bracelet to be adjusted in five positions within an 8mm range.

"Black Bay 58 18K" Ref. M79018V-0006

Tudor Black Bay 58 18K

Tudor "Black Bay 58 18K" Ref. M79018V-0006

In addition to the GMT watch, a gorgeous 18K yellow gold model of the Black Bay 58 was also announced in 2024. This is a rare model for Tudor, which is known for its tool watches.

In addition, the color is a deep green base combined with "golden green" that is sprinkled with gold, and the bezel insert is matte, so it has a chic and subdued design that is not too flashy.

The heavy, solid 18K yellow gold will give it a striking presence on your wrist.
