Citizen, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024, has announced a number of new models. We will introduce a number of exciting new releases, including a new mechanical model and a model equipped with the newly developed light-powered Eco-Drive movement.

Citizen "CITIZEN Brand Watch 100th Anniversary Pocket Watch"

　Citizen has announced a new hand-wound pocket watch reminiscent of the 16-inch hand-wound pocket watch, the first to bear the CITIZEN name, to commemorate the brand's 100th anniversary.

　This pocket watch, which could be called the origin of Citizen's technology, is packed with cutting-edge technology. With a titanium case that symbolizes high timekeeping accuracy and cutting-edge technology, it is a timepiece that embodies Citizen's history as it continues to move forward for the next 100 years.

　The classic dial retains many of the design elements from the original model. The hands are slender, blued Breguet hands that reach all the way to the Arabic numerals. Meanwhile, the previously plain dial has been electroformed to create a pattern reminiscent of falling snow, expressing the overlapping of time. The small seconds hand has also been refinished for improved legibility.

　The case is made of titanium alloy. The lightweight case makes it easy to handle. Using this material is the perfect choice for a commemorative watch from Citizen, which has produced many titanium watches.

　In addition, the bow (hanging ring) attached at the 12 o'clock position is easy to operate and maintain, making it a pleasure to own a pocket watch. The braided cord, made from original dyed "aizumi" (indigo ink) colored pure silk, also matches the overall classical impression. Pocket watches are sometimes considered anachronistic, but this model will overturn that notion.

　The movement is the hand-wound Cal. 0270, exclusive to this watch. It features a free-sprung balance, ensuring stable and excellent accuracy. This latest model boasts a high level of precision, with an average daily deviation of -3 to +5 seconds. Furthermore, Citizen conducted rigorous testing for 17 days on each completed watch. After testing under various conditions, including six positions and three temperature settings, this watch is finally ready to be celebrated as a timepiece commemorating the 100th anniversary.

　The release of this work is scheduled for the fall/winter of 24, and only 100 units will be sold worldwide. It will be sold only at selected stores such as Premium Doors and Citizen Flagship Store.

Citizen Series Eight "890 Mechanical"

　2024 is a special year for Citizen. This is because in 1924, the Shokosha Watch Research Institute, the predecessor of Citizen, released the company's first pocket watch. Furthermore, the name CITIZEN was given to this pocket watch with the hope that it would be loved by citizens for a long time. In other words, 24 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Citizen.

　Citizen has already announced a variety of new models for 2024, but on March 18th, they added a new collection full of highlights.

　Among these collections, the "890 Mechanical" will be released from Series Eight.

　The Series Eight is a Citizen brand with a lineup of models equipped with mechanical movements. Until now, Citizen has focused on quartz movements, such as the light-powered Eco-Drive, but in recent years, the brand has also been focusing on mechanical models. The Series Eight is another brand that reflects Citizen's recent approach.

　The Series Eight lineup includes the basic "831 Mechanical" equipped with the Caliber 9051, the higher-end "830 Mechanical" and "870 Mechanical" equipped with the Caliber 0950, and the "880 Mechanical" with a GMT function. The latest addition is the "890 Mechanical," a modern sports watch described as "the sportiest design in Series Eight history."

　In addition to being equipped with a mechanical movement, the Series Eight also features a luxury sports watch-style design, with a continuous line that runs from the lugs to the bracelet. The new 890 Mechanical also features an octagonal bezel, giving it an even more modern look. The center case has a three-piece structure with guard parts on both sides, and together with the case back and bezel, it has a total of five pieces. The combination of polished and multi-patterned hairline finishes on each surface also adds to the "luxury sports" style.

　The dial features a unique pattern first seen on the 880 Mechanical. It combines the various sized windows of buildings symbolizing Tokyo's nightscape with the checkered pattern that has long been popular in Japan, creating a modern design unique to the Series Eight.

　Additionally, while the previous Series Eight models were water resistant to 10 bar, the new collection has been upgraded to 20 bar. The bidirectional rotating inner bezel further emphasizes the watch's character as a sports watch. This inner bezel can be operated using the crown at the 2 o'clock position. This watch is suitable for a wide range of occasions, from business to sports, and seems to embody the brand's philosophy of "being loved by the public for a long time."

　The movement used is the Cal. 9051, the same as the 831 Mechanical. This movement has enhanced anti-magnetic performance, realizing another feature of the Series Eight: its character as a Type 2 anti-magnetic watch. The power reserve is approximately 42 hours, and the daily deviation is -10 to +20 seconds. The movement can be viewed through the see-through case back.

A limited edition model inspired by cherry blossom clouds is also available!

　A limited edition model of the new Series Eight 890 Mechanical has also been released. This watch features a copper pink dial with a cherry blossom cloud design.

　Sakuragumo refers to a cloud-like pattern of cherry blossoms that continues unbroken. The smoky copper pink, reminiscent of a cloud of cherry blossoms, creates a unique yet elegant sports watch without being too flashy.

　Although it is a limited edition model, the list price is 198,000 yen (tax included), which is a reasonable price typical of the Series Eight, making it a Citizen model that is loved by many users.

　Both the regular model and the limited edition model will go on sale from Thursday, March 21st, 2024.

Citizen Attesa "HAKUTO-R Collaboration Model"

　Citizen Attesa, a titanium watch brand equipped with cutting-edge technology to support the global activities of businessmen, has released a collaboration model with HAKURO-R.

　This fourth collection of collaborative models symbolizing this partnership includes one model from the "Act Line" and two moon phase models. The moon, the target of HAKUTO-R and its lander (lunar lander), is used as a motif, and the lunar surface is boldly depicted on the dial of each model.

　The versatile "ACT Line" watch series, which matches both suits and casual fashion, introduces a new all-black model featuring a moon-themed dial. This model is the first for Attesa to feature a full-white mother-of-pearl dial. The mother-of-pearl base is layered with a tinted transparent plate, skillfully expressing the moon's faint glow.

　The distinctive sapphire crystal bezel features the names of cities, creating an appearance reminiscent of a halo surrounding the moon. Furthermore, the bracelet's central links are made of crystalline titanium, giving it the distinctive look of the moon's shadow at night. The entire watch exudes the romance of lunar exploration.

　The case and bracelet are made of Super Titanium with Duratect DLC coating. Super Titanium is also used for the landers of HAKUTO-R's Mission 1 and Mission 2, scheduled for launch in winter 24, making it the perfect material for this collaboration.

　The watch is powered by the Cal. F950, the top-of-the-line light-powered Eco-Drive GPS satellite radio movement. It boasts the world's fastest reception speed, receiving only time information in as little as three seconds. Not only will it last for approximately five years on a full charge, but it also boasts a wide range of functions, including a double direct flight function and a chronograph.

　This work has been on sale since March 7th, 2024, and is limited to 1900 units.

Two moon phase models also available

　Two moon phase models are also available as collaboration models with HAKUTO-R. These models boldly express the three-dimensional lunar pattern on the dial by adding color and texture using ink. Available in blue and yellow, they embody the diverse expressions of the moon.

　The mechanical layout of the dial is a detail that symbolizes the outstanding technical capabilities of both Citizen and the HAKUTO-R Project. At the 6 o'clock position, a moon phase display is located, matching the colors of both parties, with a moon motif floating against a pearl-printed midnight blue and jet-black night sky.

　The watch is equipped with the Cal. H874 movement. In addition to boasting a power reserve of approximately two and a half years on a full charge, it also features the Lunar Program, which controls the moon phase. This high-tech function calculates the age of the moon from date information received via radio waves and automatically displays it on the moon phase display. It also features Direct Flight, which allows for easy time zone switching, so as long as the watch receives GPS satellite signals, it will always display the correct moon phase in any country.

　Both models will be on sale from March 7, 2024, with the blue dial model being produced in limited quantities of 2400 pieces and the yellow dial model being produced in limited quantities of 2100 pieces.

Citizen Promaster "Mechanical GMT"

　Citizen's Promaster is a high-performance professional sports watch. Within the collection, models are further divided into three domains: land, sea, and air, offering high-performance watches specialized for each stage.

　2024 marks a turning point for the Citizen Promaster, which was first introduced in 1989, and will celebrate its 35th anniversary this year. Promaster has released a new mechanical model with a GMT function as part of its SKY series of pilot watches. This sporty model is aimed at aviation professionals and comes in two varieties: a standard black dial model and a bold all-black model.

　The massive 44.5mm stainless steel case has a hairline finish with polished accents in various places to create a sense of definition and three-dimensionality. This is likely what gives it a rugged yet familiar impression. The connection between the case and band is inspired by the cross-section of an airplane wing as it glides lightly through the sky, creating a flowing shape.

　Of course, this watch's specifications as a professional watch are also an attractive feature. The GMT function allows up to three time zones to be displayed simultaneously using the rotating bezel and 24-hour hand. The rotating bezel has notches on the side, making it easy to operate even while wearing gloves. 　Another nice feature is that it is water resistant to 20 atmospheres and is magnetically resistant to the second level. 　These two models, the first full-fledged mechanical GMT models from the Promaster, have been on sale since January 25, 2024.

Citizen Promaster "Eco-Drive Combination Watch"

　Also from Promaster, three new models have been released that feature the newly developed light-powered Eco-Drive movement Cal. U822.

　The Cal.U822 is an "ana-digi" combination watch that combines analog and digital displays. It has been updated from the conventional segment LCD to an MIP (Memory In Pixel) LCD, and the time and date display is now higher resolution than before, improving visibility and readability. The light level indicator, which visualizes the amount of power generated by the photovoltaic Eco-Drive system, has also been enhanced in functionality, improving visibility and allowing users to check the power generation history for up to one week. Visually checking the power generation status means users no longer have to worry about forgetting to charge.

　The analog display is also designed to be legible in any environment. It features powerful hour and minute hands, large Arabic numerals, and bar indices, while the matte dial finish reduces light reflection, preventing the hands and indices from being lost in the dial, even under strong light sources. Luminous paint is applied to the hour and minute hands and indices, ensuring visibility in the dark. Furthermore, the dial's face ring is rotatable, and by operating it with the crown at 8 o'clock, it is possible to measure the direction of travel. It also features world time, a chronograph, a perpetual calendar, and other functions, making it a versatile watch befitting a professional.

　The urethane band model uses the plant-derived urethane material "BENEBiOL™," a urethane material developed by Mitsubishi Chemical that is both durable and environmentally friendly.

Citizen Exceed "Eco-Drive Radio-Controlled Watch Direct Flight"

　Citizen Exceed, known for its sophisticated design and quality, has released a new Eco-Drive radio-controlled watch with a direct flight function. It comes in three variations: blue, black, and white dials.

　The highlight of this watch is its ultra-thin case, made possible by the incorporation of a newly developed movement. At just 7mm thick, it is the world's thinnest radio-controlled watch capable of solar power generation and multi-station reception. Citizen L "ARCLY Collection"
