A quick look at IWC's new watches for 2024!

Introducing all the new IWC watches announced in 2024. Watches & Wonders 2024 features the Portugieser, as if to say, "2024 is the year of the Portugieser for IWC." A total of six new Portugieser models have been released, including the most basic "Portugieser Automatic 40," as well as the "Portugieser Chronograph" and the "Portugieser Eternal Calendar" equipped with an eternal (secular) calendar.

Portugieser Automatic 40

　IWC has released a new model of its Portugieser Automatic 40. Two variations are available: one with an 18K white gold case and a horizon blue dial, and the other with an 18K red gold case and an obsidian black dial. The dial design follows the previous 40mm case model, featuring 2D Arabic numerals and a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock.

　The case design for this model has been revised to be more delicate and elegant. The dial side and case back are fitted with double-box sapphire crystals, allowing for a clear view of the dial, which is produced through a complex process, and the in-house movement, Cal. 82200, equipped with a Pellaton automatic winding mechanism.

Portugieser Automatic 42

A new model has been released for the Portugieser Automatic 42. While the basic design has not changed significantly from the existing model, the case design has been revised to give the side a slimmer appearance. This gives the timeless and elegant Portugieser a more refined appeal.

　The variations available are an 18K white gold case with a horizon blue dial, an 18K red gold case with an obsidian black dial, and a stainless steel case with dune, blue, or silver dials with gold-colored indexes, or a silver dial with blue-colored indexes, for a total of six types.

　The dial features a brass base with a sunburst or delicate blast finish, which is then painted with color, then polished with 15 layers of lacquer, resulting in a rich, rich color. The power reserve indicator is located at 3 o'clock, and the small seconds at 9 o'clock.

　The movement is the Cal. 52011, which features a Pellaton automatic winding mechanism and boasts a long power reserve of approximately 7 days.

Portuguese Chronograph

Three new color variations have been added to the Portugieser Chronograph. Each dial is made of brass with a sunburst finish, then painted with color, and then coated with 15 layers of transparent lacquer before being polished to a high-gloss finish. The three-dimensional print and applied indexes are also elements that give this model a rich look.

　The Horizon Blue dial model features an 18K white gold case. Its clear blue, reminiscent of the early afternoon sky bathed in strong sunlight, brings a fresh perspective to the classic Portugieser. It is presented on a gradient light blue calfskin strap by Santoni.

　The obsidian black dial is paired with an 18K red gold case and a black alligator strap by Santoni, a combination that evokes the night sky and its twinkling stars.

　The stainless steel case model features a dune dial that evokes the mood of twilight as the sun sets and night begins. The indexes and hands are all gold.

Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night

　IWC has announced the new Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night. While maintaining the elegant design common to the Portugieser collection, this model features a flying-minute tourbillon at 6 o'clock and a day and night display shaped like a globe at 9 o'clock.

　The tourbillon's anchor and escape wheel are made of silicon and furthermore feature a special diamond coating to reduce friction, achieving a long power reserve of approximately 84 hours.

　The dial is obsidian black, and the case is made of 18 ct Armor Gold®, which is harder and more wear-resistant than conventional 18K red gold. The intricately finished movement can be viewed through the see-through caseback.

Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44

A new 44.4mm case has been released for the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar. This model features a revised case design, with slimmer sides.

　The dial features a highly accurate Double Moon™ display, showing the moon phase as seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres. Inspired by nautical instruments, this mechanism is deeply connected to the Portugieser's origins. The perpetual calendar automatically detects month and leap years and displays the date, day, month, and four-digit year.

　The movement, Cal. 52616, is equipped with a Pellaton automatic winding mechanism, and its improved escapement makes it more resistant to magnetism, while its two barrels provide a power reserve of approximately seven days.

　There are four variations available, all of which feature 18K gold cases.

Portugieser Eternal Calendar

　IWC has announced the Portugieser Eternal Calendar, its first model equipped with a century perpetual calendar that takes into account not only the leap year that occurs every four years, but also the complex exceptional rules of the Gregorian calendar. Equipped with a newly designed 400-year gear, the year is treated as a leap year only if it has two zeros at the end of the Gregorian calendar and is divisible by 400. For example, while the year 2100 would be recognized as a leap year in a typical perpetual calendar model, this model follows the exceptional rules and treats it as a normal year.

　The Double Moon™ display, which shows the moon as seen from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, is mechanically programmed with such precision that it will deviate by just one day in 45 million years.

　The case is made of platinum and the dial is made of white lacquered glass, giving the watch an exceptional exterior that is befitting of the ultra-complex mechanism it contains.
