A quick look at A. Lange & Söhne's new watches for 2024!

Introducing the new A. Lange & Söhne watches announced for 2024. This year's theme for A. Lange & Söhne is the "Datograph." The new models announced include the "Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honey Gold "Lumen," which features a translucent dial and luminous coating that illuminates the displays and mechanisms, and the "Datograph Up/Down," which combines a white gold case with a blue dial.

The sixth release in the "Lumen" series: the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honey Gold "Lumen"

　To mark the 25th anniversary of the Datograph, A. Lange & Söhne has unveiled a new interpretation of the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold "Lumen." The Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon was first released in 2016 and featured a dial with a well-balanced layout of its three namesake complications for enhanced legibility. This new model focuses on this same legibility.

　This is the sixth limited edition model in the Lumen series, and features a translucent dial and luminous coating that allows the displays and mechanisms to glow, allowing the unique functions and mechanisms to be appreciated even in the dark. The hour, minute, and chronograph second hands are coated with luminous paint, and together with the luminous sub-dial, ensure visibility in the dark.

　Let's take a look at each function. The Datograph features a flyback chronograph and its associated 30-minute counter at 4 o'clock. The tachymeter scale, which extends the chronograph's functionality, is located around the outer edge of the coated sapphire crystal dial.

　The perpetual calendar displays the month and leap year on the same axis as the 30-minute counter at 4 o'clock, and the day of the week on the same axis as the small seconds at 8 o'clock. Finally, at 12 o'clock, there's an outsize date, one of A. Lange & Söhne's iconic displays. The subdial at 8 o'clock also doubles as a day/night indicator. At 6 o'clock, there's a highly precise moon phase display that only deviates by one day every 122.6 years. These can be individually adjusted using the three adjustment pushers located on the side of the case.

　In this case, the tourbillon refers to a one-minute tourbillon equipped with a stop-second mechanism. This stop-second mechanism, first adopted in 2008, allows the tourbillon to be stopped by operation, regardless of the position of the balance or carriage, enabling accurate time setting.

　These functions are made possible by the newly developed Cal. L952.4, which features a design based on classic watchmaking techniques, including the traditional column wheel, and is finished to the highest standards of A. Lange & Söhne, while the tourbillon can be seen in action from the case back.

　The case housing the Cal.L952.4 is made of honey gold, and this is the second model to combine the hardness and brilliance of honey gold with the nocturnal coating of lumen, following the "Zeitwerk Honey Gold "Lumen"" released in 2021. This model will be limited to 50 pieces worldwide.

　To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Datograph, a new Datograph Up/Down has been announced, featuring an 18K white gold case and a blue dial. This model features a flyback mechanism, a feature used in the early days of aviation, allowing the chronograph to be stopped, reset to zero, and restarted with a single push of a button. Additionally, it features a precision jumping minute counter, which advances the minute counter exactly one notch for every 60 seconds the chronograph second hand reaches.

　The "up/down" in the model name refers to the power reserve indicator at 6 o'clock. The remaining power reserve of approximately 60 hours fluctuates depending on the operation, and the timing when the hand touches the red part signals that the watch should be wound once every three days.

　Like other A. Lange & Söhne timepieces, this timepiece features a well-balanced arrangement of its functions, achieving both aesthetic appeal and legibility. It also features an 18K white gold case and a blue dial that provides a striking contrast with the displays. The bright hue of the white gold harmonizes with the German silver plates and bridges of the Caliber L951.6, highlighting the movement's high-quality finishing. This timepiece is limited to 150 pieces worldwide.
