A quick look at Panerai's new watches for 2024!

Here's a look at the new Panerai watches unveiled at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024. Panerai has partnered with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Sailing Team, which competes in the global yacht race, the America's Cup, since 2019, and 24 will be the year of the 37th America's Cup. Therefore, all of the new models this time are collaborations with Luna Rossa, including the Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition, which uses carbotech, and the Submersible Quarantaquattro Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech, which features a case made of titanium with a ceramic surface.

A new Carbotech model symbolizing the challenge to compete in the America's Cup

　Panerai has announced the new Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition, based on its partnership with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Sailing Team, which is competing in the global yacht race, the America's Cup.

　The America's Cup, which has been held since 1851, is an international friendly yacht race in the form of a match between a challenger representative selected in qualifying rounds and the previous winning team. Since each team must compete using a yacht built in their home country, the race has gained popularity as a clash of a wide range of knowledge and technology, including shipbuilding technology, material engineering, and fluid dynamics from each country. The race is held irregularly, but in recent years it has been held every three to five years.

　The partnership between Panerai and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli began in 2019, and they won the qualifiers and became the challenger representative for the 36th America's Cup in 2021. And now, in preparation for the 37th America's Cup, scheduled to be held in August 2024, they have announced this Submersible Tourbillon GMT Luna Rossa Experience Edition Ref. PAM01405.

　This model is inspired by the technology and materials used in America's Cup boats. The case is particularly iconic. The hull of the Luna Rossa boat is made almost entirely of carbon fiber, and this model follows suit, using the composite material Carbotech. This makes the watch extremely lightweight, and its surface features the layered pattern characteristic of Carbotech. The case has also been downsized from the previous Submersible Tourbillon to 45mm, improving comfort.

　The Cal.P.2015/T movement features a tourbillon that rotates horizontally every 30 seconds. Its unique feature is that the tourbillon rotates perpendicular to the balance, reducing the effects of gravity on the watch. The movement is also skeletonized, reflecting the stoic worldview of racing yachts. The accompanying bezel is made of titanium with a black DLC coating. This model features a striking combination of black, derived from carbon, and white for legibility, as well as red, symbolizing respect for and partnership with the sailing team.

　The watch will be limited to 20 pieces and will debut in July in time for the America's Cup Final. The lucky owner will also be invited to attend the America's Cup Final in Barcelona, ​​where they will also have the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour during the final, giving them an up-close look at and experience the prestigious event as Panerai and the sailing team take on the challenge.

New work using a new material that has had the surface of titanium ceramicized

　Two new models have been announced: the Submersible Quarantaquattro and Luna Rossa Ti-Ceramitech, which use a new material that transforms the surface of a titanium alloy into a ceramic layer. This collaboration model with Luna Rossa is inspired by the high-performance material used in the world of yacht racing.

　Its greatest feature is its Ti-Ceramitech finish, which transforms the surface of a titanium alloy into a dense ceramic layer and then undergoes an electrolytic plasma oxidation process to create a striking blue color reminiscent of the ocean. Its mechanical properties include 10 times greater fracture toughness than conventional ceramics and 44% lighter weight than steel. The bezel, also made from Ti-Ceramitech, is colored by electrolytic plasma oxidation, and then further processed to reveal the natural titanium color, highlighting the indices.

　Two dials are available: PAM01466 with a blue sun-brushed finish, which, in line with the case's hue, evokes the spirit of the sea; and PAM01543 with a matte white glen dial, which enhances the tool watch feel. PAM01466 will be available across the network, while PAM01543 will be a boutique exclusive.

A collaboration model with Luna Rossa featuring a titanium case

　The Submersible GMT Luna Rossa Titanio Ref. PAM01507 has been announced as a collaboration model with Luna Rossa. Equipped with the automatic movement Cal. P.900/GMT with a central GMT display and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, this model features distinctive indices and a case.

　The indices are made with the new Super-LumiNova X2, which boasts 10% improved brightness after 180 minutes in the dark. The case is crafted from lightweight, high-strength grade 5 titanium, the same material used in the Luna Rossa boats competing in the America's Cup, a nod to the watch's provenance. Water-resistant to 500 meters, this model is lightweight, highly reliable, and offers excellent legibility.

　This model features a blue motif, accented with red, representing the collaboration with Luna Rossa. The Luna Rossa logo is placed at the 6 o'clock position. This model comes with a strap that combines rubber and textile, featuring the Luna Rossa logo and red lines, as well as a solid, sporty blue rubber strap.

Black matte ceramic bezel, available exclusively at the online boutique

　The newly announced Submersible Luna Rossa Ref. PAM01565 features a stainless steel case and a black matte ceramic bezel. It will be sold exclusively through the online boutique and is limited to 300 pieces worldwide.

　The dial, a tribute to the mystery and depth of the oceans sailed by Luna Rossa's crew, features a gradient from a clear deep blue to black. The small seconds at 9 o'clock and the rubber and textile strap are accented with red, signifying the collaboration with Luna Rossa. The Luna Rossa logo is engraved at 6 o'clock and on the strap. A spare dark blue rubber strap is also included.
