How about a diver's watch to get you through this summer? "Tag Heuer Aquaracer"

2025.05.17

TAG Heuer's diver's watch collection, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer, boasts high performance as a diver's watch, a wide variety of models, and reasonable pricing. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the TAG Heuer Aquaracer and introduce the current model.

What kind of watch is the Tag Heuer Aquaracer?

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer is a diver's watch collection developed by TAG Heuer. The current models can be broadly divided into three types: the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200, which the brand calls "outdoor-oriented," and the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 or TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000, which are "diving-oriented."

We will explain what kind of watches are included in this collection.

TAG Heuer Diving Watch Collection

TAG Heuer released its first diver's watch, the "Diving Watch" Ref. 844, in 1978. In 1982, they released the "Heuer 1000m Diver," which was upgraded to 1000m water resistance, and in 1984, they released the further improved "TAG Heuer Super Professional 1000M."

TAG Heuer continued to expand its diver's watch collection, releasing the 2000 Series and 3000 Series. Following this history of diver's watch manufacturing, the 2000 Aquaracer was born in 2004 (the collection name was changed to Aquaracer the following year).

The "diving watch" Ref. 844 was released in 1978. It had six practical functions, including 200m water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and a screw-down crown. In 2021, a reissue model based on the original design was released, limited to 844 pieces.

Over its 20-year history, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer has successfully established itself in the watch market as a high-performance, yet practical and easy-to-use diver's watch. As a diver's watch, it is not only waterproof and practical for everyday use, but in recent years the quality of its exterior has also improved. At the same time, it is sold at an affordable price, making it popular with a wide range of users.

A wide range of products

As mentioned above, the current models are divided into the Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200, which the brand describes as being "for outdoor use," and the Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 or Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000, which the brand describes as being "for diving."

However, it is worth noting that each line offers a wide variety of sizes, materials, colors, and more.

There is a wide range of case sizes, from the 45mm diameter of the Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Super Diver, which has the highest water resistance, to the 43mm and 42mm diameters of the Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300, and the 36mm diameter that is easy to wear for both men and women. The Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 is available in 40mm, 34mm, 30mm, and 27mm diameters.

As I will explain later, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Super Diver is water resistant to 1000m. The case measures a dynamic 45mm in diameter and 15.5mm thick. However, because it is made of titanium, I was surprised at how light it is compared to its appearance.

The lineup includes a range of movement types, from traditional mechanical to quartz and even solar-powered quartz. In addition to the standard stainless steel, there are also models made of gorgeous 18K gold, models with luxurious diamonds, and colorful models, and this wide variety of options is one of the reasons why the TAG Heuer Aquaracer is so popular.

Finally, for men who are thinking about purchasing a TAG Heuer Aquaracer, we will introduce some of the current models.

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Date" Ref. WBP2150.FT6210

This combination case model features an 18K yellow gold bezel insert and crown. The gold material is satin-finished, successfully blending a luxurious feel seamlessly into the Aquaracer tool watch.

The dial, engraved with the iconic horizontal lines, is a smoky blue gradient, evoking the depths of the ocean, befitting a diver's watch. The hands and indexes are plated in 18K gold, matching the color of the case.

The standard strap is made of dark blue rubber that can withstand use in water, and the buckle has a fine adjustment mechanism, so you can easily change the wrist size to suit the weather and your physical condition.

The movement is the automatic mechanical Cal. 5. Its stability based on a general-purpose movement makes it perfect for a diver's watch, which requires reliability.

Automatic winding (Cal. 5). 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 38 hours. 18K yellow gold x stainless steel case (40mm diameter). Water resistant to 200m. Price: 737,000 yen (tax included).

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Chronograph" Ref. CBP1113.BA0627

This chronograph model features a refreshing blue dial. Because it is equipped with a quartz movement, there is no need to worry about power reserve like with mechanical watches, and running costs can also be kept low.

The case and bracelet are made of stainless steel. The satin-finished bezel creates a solid impression, while the polished finishes throughout add a three-dimensional and luxurious feel. The watch is water resistant to 200m, and the bracelet buckle is equipped with a convenient fine adjustment mechanism.

The three subdials function as a small second at 3 o'clock, a 1/10th of a second counter at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock. At 12 o'clock, there is a grand date display that displays the tens and ones digits of the date on separate discs, improving visibility. Another advantage of quartz is that you can easily enjoy mechanisms that would be expensive with a mechanical movement like this.

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Date" Ref. WBP2110.BA0627

This mechanical model features a particularly standard design among the Aquaracer models, and is packed with design elements that are symbolic of the collection, such as a 12-sided bezel that is easy to grip and a dial with horizontal lines.

The case size is 40mm, which is a little small for a diver's watch. The lugs are also short, making it comfortable to wear on the wrist. Its slimness of 11.54mm also helps ensure that it will not feel stressful even during active scenes. Of course, it is water resistant to 200m, so it can also be worn underwater.

The dial is a gradient black color with a sunray finish. While black dials are a standard for diver's watches, the addition of a gradient adds a unique touch. All 12 indexes and three hands, including the date display at 6 o'clock, are coated with luminous paint, emitting a two-tone green and blue glow in the dark.

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph" Ref. WBP1114.BA0000

At first glance, it resembles the aforementioned "Ref. WBP2110.BA0627," but this model is equipped with a solar-powered quartz movement rather than a mechanical one. It uses a secondary battery that stores power generated from light, eliminating the need for periodic battery changes, making it appealing. While solar cells are typically located on or directly below the dial, making it difficult to create a luxurious feel for the dial itself, this model features a sunray-finish black dial typical of luxury watches.

The polar blue used on the second hand, minute markers, and the "SOLARGRAPH" lettering at 6 o'clock is a unique accent. It softens the sense of solidity that a diver's watch usually has, giving it a lighter impression. A date display at 3 o'clock ensures excellent functionality.

The case and bracelet are made of stainless steel, with a satin finish that effectively incorporates polished finishes, and the bracelet is equipped with a fine adjustment mechanism, specifications common to other Aquaracers.

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300" Ref. WBP5110.BA0013

This model, with a 42mm case, was announced in June 2024. It has successfully downsized the case while maintaining a water resistance of 300m.

A distinctive feature is the ceramic bezel insert, which adds a touch of luxury and scratch resistance, and the triangular markers on the bezel are coated with luminous paint, making it easy to see the elapsed time even in the dark.

The dial features a wave-like pattern, adding elegance to its functionality, and the date display at 6 o'clock is easily visible thanks to a magnifying lens attached to the sapphire crystal.

The case back is engraved with an engraving based on a diving helmet motif. The case back of the current Aquaracer is attached so that the engraving is always aligned straight against the case. Although it is a part that you will not see when wearing the watch, it is a nice touch.

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 GMT" Ref. WBP5114.BA0013

This model, also a new addition to the lineup in June 2024, features a GMT function. The 24-hour ceramic bezel insert is color-coded blue for daytime and black for nighttime, making it easy to distinguish between day and night in the second time zone. The GMT hand is a refreshing light blue, making it difficult to confuse with other hands. Also noteworthy is the magnifying lens attached to the sapphire crystal to improve the visibility of the date display at 6 o'clock.

The movement used is the automatic mechanical movement Cal. TH31-03. It is a COSC-certified chronometer and, coupled with a power reserve of approximately 80 hours, it is a movement that delivers stable, high accuracy.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 GMT, Ref. WBP5115.BA0013

This is a green-colored model of the aforementioned "Ref. WBP5114.BA0013." Other than the color, the two-tone black and green ceramic bezel, green dial with a wave-like pattern, and a vibrant green GMT hand that doesn't sink into the dial create a sophisticated impression. This color scheme is sure to make this a great choice for surfers and divers who travel the world's oceans.

The bracelet is made of the same stainless steel as the case, with a satin finish and a subdued tone. The buckle, thick enough to balance with the head, is opened and closed with a push button. It features a fine-tuning mechanism that allows you to adjust the length of the wrist without the need for tools, making it easy to adjust to suit the weather or your physical condition, such as during the sticky summer months when you sweat or when your body is swollen.

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Super Diver" Ref. WBP5A8A.BF0619

As the model name suggests, this is a professional-grade diver's watch with a water resistance of 1000m. The company released diver's watches with the same water resistance in 1982 and 1984, and this model continues those traditions.

The ceramic bezel insert is two-tone black and orange, with the orange representing the 15-minute mark, which is often used to time decompression stops during diving.

A key design feature is the large crown guard, which adds a massive touch to the imposing 45mm case. Because it surrounds the crown itself, it reduces the risk of damage caused by hitting rocks or other surfaces while diving. The case and bracelet are made of grade 5 titanium, which, despite its appearance, is lightweight and highly resistant to corrosion in seawater. A helium escape valve is located on the side of the case, making it suitable for saturation diving.

The movement is the automatic mechanical movement, Cal. TH30-00, made by Kenissi, a Tudor subsidiary. In addition to a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, this robust movement features a shock-resistant free-sprung balance and a double-supporting balance cock, making it a perfect match for this diver's watch.
