Rolex ice blue dials: its features and representative models

2026.01.23

Ice blue dials have become a trend in watches in recent years. Many users are interested in Rolex ice blue dials. However, some may be surprised by their high prices. In this article, we will introduce Rolex ice blue dials. We will understand their appeal, the reasons for their price, and the variations available.

What is a Rolex ice blue dial?

Although Rolex ice blue dial models have a strong presence, they are quite expensive to sell because Rolex incurs high costs in manufacturing these watches based on its uncompromising watchmaking approach.

Popular as a trendy color

Refreshing blues like Rolex's ice blue have been trending as a dial color since around 2020. While there are subtle differences in the color, brands other than Rolex are also offering dials with this pale blue color.

Rolex was one of the first brands to use ice blue as a dial color, with the Cosmograph Daytona, released in 13. Rolex then released a turquoise blue model of the Oyster Perpetual 41 in 20.

In 21, Patek Philippe released a Nautilus model with a Tiffany blue dial. This rare model was produced in a limited edition of 170 pieces worldwide to commemorate the 170th anniversary of their partnership with Tiffany.

These models, released one after another by famous brands starting in 20, sparked a trend, making ice blue a popular dial color.

The driving force behind this trend is the improvement of watchmaking technology, which has made it easier for brands to give their watches vibrant colors and high-quality textures, allowing for greater freedom of expression in terms of the exterior, including the dial.

A dial color that is only used on platinum Rolex models

All Rolex models with ice blue dials are made with platinum, an extremely rare metal, which is why Rolex ice blue dials are so expensive.

Platinum is highly corrosion-resistant and has a beautiful shine, but it is also rare. By applying sophisticated technical skills to this exceptional material, Rolex has given its platinum models and ice blue dial models a truly exceptional look.

Luxurious dial finish

The dial of the Day-Date 40. Along with the ice blue color, the polished indexes and hour and minute hands also contribute to the elegant design.

One of the characteristics of Rolex ice blue dials is their luxurious dial finish. For example, the sunray finish seen on the Cosmograph Daytona and Day-Date 40, which features light radiating elegantly from the dial, creates a one-of-a-kind presence. The radial grooves, which are made from the center to the outside, are intricate, and this finish gives an insight into Rolex's watchmaking attitude.

The sunray finish on the dial diffuses light evenly along each groove, changing the way the light is reflected depending on the viewing angle, and the color and texture also change depending on the amount of light.

The ice blue matches well with the shining white platinum, further enhancing the watch's appeal.

Differences from other blue dials

The ice blue dial of the Rolex is coated with PVD, a technique in which a hard film is vapor-deposited onto metal, giving the dial a beautiful luster.

PVD deposits an extremely thin film, making it a good match for finishes such as sunrays and guilloche. Because the film is hard and durable, it is often used on the exteriors of sports watches.

In addition to ice blue, Rolex watches also use other blue colors such as turquoise blue, bright blue, royal blue, and midnight blue.

These colors are different from ice blue, being a deeper blue and often paired with stainless steel or 18K gold. Rolex blue dial models are not just different shades of blue; they are also made with materials perfectly suited to each color.

Recommended Rolex Models with Ice Blue Dials

We will introduce recommended models with ice blue dials from the current Rolex collection. Check out the features and appeal of each model and use it as a reference when considering purchasing one.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona

Rolex Daytona 126506

Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona" Ref. 126506
Automatic winding (Cal. 4131). 47 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 72 hours. Pt case (diameter 40 mm, thickness 11.9 mm). Water resistant to 100 m.

Rolex revamped the collection in 2023, the 60th anniversary of the birth of the Cosmograph Daytona. One of the models released at this time was the Ref. 126506.

This is the first time for a professional watch to feature a transparent case back, allowing the in-house automatic movement, Cal. 4131, to be viewed from the case back.

The Cerachrom bezel is chestnut brown to match the ice blue dial, which is exclusive to platinum models.

The ice blue dial is complemented by 18K gold indices and hands. To ensure visibility in the dark, the Chromalight display uses a luminescent material, a detail that exudes luxury and practicality. The Ref. 126506 is also available with diamond-set indices.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller 40

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller 40, Ref. 127336

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller 40, Ref. 127336
Automatic winding (Cal. 7135). 36,000 vph. Power reserve approximately 66 hours. Pt case (diameter 40mm). Water resistant to 100m. 9,427,000 yen (tax included).

In 2025, Rolex launched a new collection: the Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller.

This collection, billed as "Watches for those who are creating the world of tomorrow," has a form in which the case and bracelet are integrated, reminiscent of the "Oyster Quartz" that Rolex once produced, but it also has a fresh impression with a hexagonal patterned dial and the "Flat Jubilee" movement newly developed for the Land-Dweller.

However, the innovation lies more on the inside than on the outside. The movement is the newly developed automatic Cal. 7135, which upgrades the Cal. 7140 to a high beat of 36,000 vibrations per hour and is equipped with a completely new escapement called the Dynapulse escapement.

The Land-Dweller also has a platinum and ice blue dial model in its lineup. The hexagonal pattern is created using a femtosecond laser, and combined with the refreshing ice blue color, it creates a unique luxury that is not found in other models.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40

Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40" Ref. 228236
Automatic winding (Cal. 3255). Power reserve: approximately 70 hours. Pt case (diameter: 40mm). Water resistant to 100m.

In 2022, Rolex released a new ice blue dial model: the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40, Ref. 228236.

The fluted bezel, with its striking continuous mountain-shaped cuts, is one of Rolex's signature details, and with the Ref. 228236, Rolex adopted a platinum fluted bezel for the first time.

The President bracelet used in this model not only exudes elegance but also provides a comfortable fit. One theory is that the name "President" bracelet comes from the fact that it was given to then-U.S. President Eisenhower when the Day-Date was first introduced.

Let's also take a look at the automatic movement, Cal. 3255. This new-generation movement has been used in the Day-Date since 2015, and features a power reserve of approximately 70 hours thanks to the highly efficient Chronergy escapement, a blue Parachrom hairspring that is resistant to magnetism and shocks, and automatic ball bearings that increase durability, all of which contribute to further enhancing the practicality of Rolex watches.

The lineup of ice blue dials for the Ref. 228236 also includes models with bar indexes and diamond indexes.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40

Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40" Ref. 228396TBR
Automatic winding (Cal. 3255). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Pt case (diameter 40mm). Water resistant to 100m.

Here's another recommended ice blue dial model from the Rolex Day-Date 40. This watch features diamonds set seamlessly into the bezel. To further enhance the beauty of the watch, the diamonds have been carefully set by hand by artisans.

As mentioned above, the automatic movement Cal. 3255 boasts excellent magnetic and shock resistance, as well as a practical power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Also check out the models with Roman numerals and diamond numerals, which are also available with ice blue dials.

Rolex Perpetual 1908

Perpetual 1908 is a new dress line that will be added to the lineup in 2023, replacing Cellini. The collection name is inspired by the year 1908, when the Rolex brand was born.

Like the Cellini, it features a classic and simple look. The ice blue dial of the Ref. 52506 is also characterized by its rice grain guilloched design, which is different from that of the Daytona and Day-Date 40.

The polished finish of the case, the bezel with its combination of dome and fluted decoration, and the fluting decoration on the case back give this dressy piece a striking presence.

The transparent case back allows you to enjoy the intricate design of the automatic movement, Cal. 7140, which was released to coincide with the launch of this collection.

Rolex "Perpetual 1908" Reference 52506
Automatic winding (Cal. 7140). Power reserve: approximately 66 hours. Pt case (diameter: 39 mm). Water resistant to 5 bar.
