Kei Nishikori is the highest-ranked Asian player in the world in men's singles history.

　Shortly after taking up tennis, Kei Nishikori won the Junior Tennis Championships in 2001. He was only in sixth grade at the time. That same year, he won a high school student nearly 30cm taller during a television program, garnering media attention. While still in junior high school, he competed in international junior tournaments as a scholarship student, furthering his career. In 2007, he made his tour debut and announced his professional debut at the age of 17 years and 9 months. That year, he lost in the first round in both singles and doubles, but the following year he achieved his first tour victory, becoming only the second player to achieve this feat in 16 years, following Shuzo Matsuoka's victory at the Korea Open in 1992.

　He later overcame a period of absence due to a stress fracture in his right elbow, and at the 2011 Swiss Indoors, he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic to advance to the final, but lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals. This was the first time in history that a Japanese male player had defeated the world number one player in singles. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he made it to the quarterfinals in singles, just as he had done in London, and faced Nadal in the third-place deciding match, winning the bronze medal after a full set. This was the first time a Japanese player had won a medal in this sport in 96 years, since Kazuya Kumagai won the silver medal at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics.

　Kei Nishikori's 2024 season begins with a return from injury and a new team. He returned to the tour after an eight-month absence at the Miami Open, where this photo was taken. He reached the quarterfinals at the Atlanta Open last July, but suffered a left knee injury and was forced to miss several tournaments. Nishikori said his knee is gradually recovering, but his return to the tour ended in a loss. However, he seemed to be savoring the joy of being able to enjoy tennis again. Former world No. 7 Johansson has been appointed as his new coach, and he is embarking on a new challenge with a new team.

The skeleton watch is a custom G-SHOCK "GMA-S2100SK-4A"

The original model of the watch worn at the Miami Open, the GMA-S2100SK-4A, retains the octagonal case of the GA-2100 but is a smaller, skeletonized model. Another key feature of the original GMA-S2100SK-4A is that the dial is coated with a subtle polarizing coating.

Kei Nishikori wears G-SHOCK even during matches!

　Kei Nishikori has been seen wearing various types of G-SHOCK. He even wore what appears to be a customized GA-2100SKE-7A model at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021. This G-SHOCK is a refreshing model, with both the case and strap made of transparent resin. The original has black indexes, but this custom model is painted in rainbow colors. Custom watches are not produced in large numbers. Even on competitive occasions, Kei Nishikori enjoys expressing his own style by wearing rare watches.

　He has also worn the GRX-5600B-2, an overseas model designed for surfing from the sports line G-LIDE. This watch is designed for surfers and is set with information on tide times and moon phases for major surfing spots around the world. Even during tennis matches, where the wrist is subjected to significant impacts, the shock-resistant G-SHOCK can be worn safely. It's safe to say that Kei Nishikori is a big fan of G-SHOCK.
