A pocket watch commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Citizen watches

The first pocket watch was completed in 1924 by Shokosha Watch Research Institute, the predecessor of Citizen Watch. The name "CITIZEN" was given to the watch with the hope that it would be loved by citizens for a long time.
In 2024, the company released a pocket watch commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Citizen watch. This model incorporates the watchmaking technology that Citizen has cultivated over the years to follow the design of the 1924 pocket watch.
This development approach is best reflected in the movement. This model is equipped with the manual winding Caliber 0270, which is based on the Caliber 0200 that the company has been producing since 2021. Although it is based on the original, many aspects of the design have been newly revised. For example, the gear train has been changed, with the second and third wheels now larger. Kenji Tsuchiya, who was involved in the development, said, "We could have made it exactly the same as the 0200, but if we had matched it to the original dial design, the small seconds hand would have been too close to the center, which would have made it unbalanced," so the change was made.

This commemorative model pays homage to Citizen's first pocket watch, launched in 1924. The distinctive dial is created by electroforming, then plating, spraying with ivory clear and transparent lacquer, and polishing. Manual winding (Cal. 0270). 18 jewels. 28,800 vph. Ti case (diameter 43.5mm, thickness 13.4mm). Water resistant for everyday use. Limited to 100 pieces worldwide. Exclusive to select retailers. Estimated price: 1.1 million yen (tax included).
The bridges are also decorated with Côtes de Genève, following on from the original 1924 model. Meanwhile, the diamond-cut chamfering on the bridges and the circular graining on the main plate are new features. This elaborate movement can be viewed through the transparent case back. Like opening the case back of a hunter-style pocket watch, the outer diameter of the bridges is set inside the diameter of the sapphire crystal case back, allowing the entire movement to be enjoyed. To prevent this aesthetic from being disrupted even when tilted, a dual spherical sapphire crystal case back has been adopted, with both the outer and inner surfaces forming part of a sphere.
This is not just a reissue, but an expression of Citizen's evolution. This evolution will never stop. Now and in the future.
