The latest G-SHOCK model, the GM-S2110, is even smaller than before

The beloved G-SHOCK boasts an incredibly diverse lineup. Starting in 1983 with the square-shaped 5000/5600 series, which inherited the design of the original G-SHOCK "Origin," the 6900 series, which contrasts with the Origin with a round case inspired by the idea of a perfect circle, and the MASTER OF G series, the ultimate tool watch, are just too numerous to list. Among these G-SHOCKs, there's one series affectionately known among watch enthusiasts as the "Casioak." It's the "2100." This series, launched with the "GA-2100" in 2019, represents a new genre with a case shape inspired by the octagonal bezel featured on the Origin. Just five years after its launch, the 2100 series has expanded in variety. Among these variations, the GM-S2100, launched in 2021, features a compact case and minimalist functionality and design. Now, in 2024, the GM-S2110, which we will be reviewing wearing this model, is a more "adult" version of the GM-S2100.

The GM-S2110 comes in a lineup of green, blue, and pink dials. This time, we'll be reviewing the green dial model. This latest model, whose information was only released on July 16th, is being worn and reviewed.

In addition to green, the GM-S2110 also comes in pastel pink and blue. These pale hues create a charming design when used on the dial.

The slimmer diameter and metal construction expand the options for women's G-SHOCKs

Before reviewing the actual watch, I would like to point out that this model has achieved an excellent positioning in the watch market as a "G-SHOCK for adult women" for a wide range of generations.

G-SHOCK has an identity of being "shock-resistant." Because of this toughness, it may be perceived as being aimed at men, but there are plenty of options for women. In recent years, the brand has been actively marketing to women, such as by appointing the Korean girl group "ITZY" as its ambassador.

G-SHOCK×ITZY

Starting in 2023, G-SHOCK will be releasing a five-member girl group from Korea called "ITZY." It's pronounced "ITZY."

On the other hand, the texture of the resin material, the pop colors, and the large exterior with its complex shape can make it difficult to coordinate with your outfit or the occasion. Speaking from personal experience, now in my late 30s, I've never purchased a women's G-SHOCK watch because I was worried it would be difficult to coordinate with my work attire and would limit my options. That said, I'm drawn to the toughness of G-SHOCK. The GM-S2100, released in 2021, meets this need.

In recent years, the watch market has seen a trend toward thinner and smaller cases. Even in non-luxury sports watches, thin and compact models are becoming more prominent. For G-SHOCK, a watch with a shock-resistant construction is no easy feat. However, in 2019, the GA-2100 was introduced to the collection as a model that inherits the design of the 5000 series while featuring both digital and analog displays. This model, which is categorized as the 2100 series in contrast to the 5000 series and which Casio calls the "new standard," was developed with a "slim and compact" concept in mind, resulting in a thinner and more compact case.

The GA-2100 was a huge hit. Variation models were quickly released, and in 21 the GM-S2100 was born as an even more compact and minimalist collection for women. Although the actual sales figures are unknown, it was likely a huge success as well, as the GM-S2110, which we are reviewing wearing this time, was released in 24.

G-SHOCK GM-S2110

G-SHOCK watches with resin cases are great for casual wear, but if they're too pop, they might not suit some occasions. This is especially true as you get older. This model features a metal dial and bezel, giving it a subdued design. Meanwhile, the dial color is a bright pastel green, so it doesn't look uninspired.

Furthermore, the GM-S2100 and GM-S2110 are not just more compact, but also feature a stainless steel bezel, a glass fiber reinforced resin case with a metallic texture, and a design that is easy to wear in a variety of situations, toning down the "overly pop colors" that were common in previous G-SHOCK models for women.

The arrival of the 2100 series may have given women of an age that could be classified as "adult" an opportunity to pick up a G-SHOCK again. At least for me, the toughness and peace of mind that comes with G-SHOCK, as I will explain later, made it one of the models I wanted to purchase.

The case is not too small, but is designed to be comfortable to wear.

That was a long introduction. From this heading, I will begin my review of the product.

As mentioned above, the 2100 series is a smaller, thinner version of the 5000 series G-SHOCK. While the GA-2100, which was first released in 19, was 45.4mm in diameter and 11.18mm thick, the GM-S2100 is even smaller, measuring 40.4mm in diameter and 11mm thick. The GM-S2110 has the same size and specifications as the GM-S2100. However, the bezel top has been slimmed down, giving it an even more compact impression.

However, this size is by no means small when considered as a ladies' watch. Another trend in the watch market is that women's watches tend to have larger cases, but it is rare to see a watch with a diameter of 40mm or more.

G-SHOCK GM-S2110

While many GM-S2100 models have a colored exterior using IP treatment, this collection is given a silver finish that resembles stainless steel. It is a highly versatile design that can be said to be more "for adults."

This size makes it stand out on the wrist and draws attention even when you're wearing it.

Furthermore, watches that are larger than your wrist width can sometimes feel uncomfortable to wear. This is because they float off the wrist or the watch head is wobbly. Add weight and thickness to the mix and you'll feel even more uncomfortable wearing the watch. However, this watch felt great to wear. While there are various methods for improving the comfort of large watches depending on the watch manufacturer, one example is to "shorten the overall length." This watch's overall length is kept to 45.9mm, so neither the 12 o'clock nor the 6 o'clock side sticks out too much from the wrist.

G-SHOCK GM-S2110

Even for me, who normally wears men's watches with case diameters between 36 and 40mm, I thought that anything over 40mm in diameter would be too large before reviewing the watch. However, when I actually put it on my wrist, I felt that it was a watch that I would want to wear all the time, helped by its thin construction and lightness. By the way, my wrist circumference is 14.7cm. I own the GMW-B5000 and I like it, but it was quite large for my wrist, and it was heavy, so it took me some time to get used to wearing it.

Also, while G-SHOCKs may have a strong image of being heavy, this model is very light (I forgot to measure it, but the GM-S2100 of the same size weighs about 55g, so I think this model is about the same weight). Combined with the fact that the case back does not protrude, it is clear that the design has been carefully considered to make it comfortable for women's wrists.

G-SHOCK GM-S2110

While many G-SHOCK models have thick case backs, this model is slim. Please forgive the price sticker, as this was a model borrowed from Casio Computer for review purposes.

The larger case also fits snugly around the wrist, making it feel even more comfortable to wear. The resin strap is soft and flexible, with many holes for easy adjustment, which greatly contributes to improving the fit. The resin parts of the strap are made from biomass plastic, a renewable organic resource. The strap on this model is shorter than that of the GM-S2100. However, the aging and strength of the resin are concerns.

The band and pin buckle are thin and small, so they won't get in the way of your desk work.

Incidentally, if you use a watch that is larger than the one you normally wear, you are more likely to accidentally bump it into something. However, since this is a thin and small G-SHOCK, I didn't have to worry about it "hitting something." After all, G-SHOCK is a watch that "will not break even if dropped." Although the appearance has been changed for an "adult" model, it has not lost its shock-resistant character, and being able to use it with confidence is one of the charms I felt after reviewing this watch.

The three-dimensional shape contributes to a high-end look.

In addition to its compact size, another highlight of this watch is its dial. Made of metal, the dial is a pale green color with a sun-brushed finish. Furthermore, the inside cover is finished in a matte finish. The contrast created by these different finishes, combined with the wide outer perimeter step that creates depth, gives the watch a strong three-dimensional design.

The small LCD window is also tilted at an angle, giving it depth.

The cases also feature different finishes. The bezel and case sides have a hairline finish, while the case surface and push buttons have a glossy polish. The GM-S2100 and GM-S2110 are also designed with a minimalist concept. Furthermore, the GM-S2110 does away with the graining at 9 o'clock that was present on the GM-S2100, and the indices and LCD display window have a clean, simple design. However, this different finish, along with the simpler yet still complex shape, contributes to the three-dimensional effect, elevating the design to a sophisticated, "adult" look.

G-SHOCK GM-S2110

The watch is equipped with a total of four push buttons. This model does not have the Mobile Link/App Link feature, which allows you to configure various settings on your smartphone via Bluetooth, so you use these push buttons to make the settings. I've always complained that G-SHOCK push buttons are difficult for women with long fingernails to operate, and I found this to be somewhat inconvenient with this model as well. However, they're not so stiff that they're impossible to press, and the simple functions make them easy to learn, so they weren't so stressful that they caused any stress.

From these different finishes and three-dimensional effect, you can sense that this watch has been carefully designed and crafted. The list price is 29,150 yen (tax included). There are many watches that are more expensive than this one, and it is of course a product with a different character from watches that are handcrafted. However, the three-dimensional design contributes to a "high-end look," and a well-crafted and crafted watch increases the satisfaction of owning it.

New models that women considering buying a watch should definitely consider

G-SHOCK pioneered a new genre of wristwatches with its "unbreakable" design. Since its launch in 1983, the brand has offered a truly diverse range of variations in the nearly half-century since. However, there weren't many options for models that could be worn by women of a certain age. The arrival of the more "adult" GM-S2110 has brought a new option to the ladies' watch market.

Furthermore, the fit and three-dimensional feel are often only noticeable when you try it on your wrist. G-SHOCK has an extensive e-commerce site, and products can be purchased on the official website (although there is no product page for the GM-S2110 yet). However, if possible, we recommend visiting a store to see the actual watch and try it on your wrist, especially for this women's G-SHOCK.
