CVSTOS, a luxury mechanical watch brand, strives to reach new heights, step by step, while staying close to its customers.

CVSTOS stands out as a strong character with its bold tonneau-shaped case and unusual materials and colors, but the brand's stance also reveals a sincere and solid policy that is close to its customers.

CVSTOS Collection

These are some of the collection that Stefan Kunz brought with him. The two on the left are the "Challenge Sealiner Chrono," the two in the middle are the "Challenge Sealiner PS Automatic Ceramic," and the one on the right is the blue "Challenge Sealiner Tourbillon Sapphire." Despite its tonneau-shaped case, it is water resistant to 100m or 50m. The case is kept airtight with a special adhesive, and all but four screws on the back cover are decorative.

CVSTOS' brand policy as seen through the use of materials

Founded in 2005, CVSTOS, a watch brand whose name means "guardian of time" in Latin, offers a lineup of models based on large, tonneau-shaped cases, featuring a wide range of colors and modern materials rarely seen in watches. The brand exudes a strong character. However, as Managing Director Stefan Kunz spoke animatedly before the collection, we could see the brand's sincerity in supporting its customers and its commitment to steady growth.

(From left) CVSTOS chief designer Antonio Terranova and CEO Sassoon Sirmakes. Sassoon Sirmakes, whose father is Vartan Sirmakes, CEO of the Franck Muller Group, began making watches in 2004. At that time, he brought in Antonio Terranova as a designer, and the two co-founded CVSTOS the following year in 2005.

The collections he has introduced, including the new releases, all have a big impact. The highlights are the Metropolitan PS Skeleton Sapphire and the Challenge Sealiner Tourbillon Sapphire, both of which feature sapphire crystal cases. The latter in particular is the brand's first model to successfully color sapphire crystal blue, and he personally explained its appearance during the interview.

"CVSTOS is an avant-garde brand. Up until now, we have used brand new materials (for watches), such as titanium and forged carbon. For the past three years or so, we have been focusing on sapphire crystal. Sapphire crystal lets in light from all directions, making the watch look beautiful. However, this material is very hard, so it is time-consuming to manufacture, and the same machine tools as for stainless steel cases cannot be used, so specialized equipment is required. Also, after cutting, sapphire crystal is milky white, so it must be polished until it is transparent. This polishing process also requires great skill. We are adopting a process that allows us to improve our technology and create the products we want, even if it means using materials that require a lot of effort (to manufacture)."

Metropolitan PS Skeleton Sapphire

Metropolitan PS Skeleton Sapphire
This model features a sapphire crystal case. Combined with the openwork dial, this watch allows you to view the internal mechanism from various angles. Automatic movement (Cal. CVS410). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Sapphire crystal case (51mm x 42mm). Water resistant to 50m. Price: 638 million yen (tax included).

Due to its hardness, only a limited number of watches use sapphire crystal for anything other than the crystal or case back. However, CVSTOS' strength goes beyond simply using this material for the case. "CVSTOS's strength lies in its ability to mass-produce models with sapphire crystal cases. These types of models (using special materials) are often produced in very small quantities. However, we have established a system for stable production of around 400 units (of sapphire crystal models) over two and a half years. We are constantly striving for high quality, while also making efforts and ingenuity to ensure that products are delivered to users quickly."

This "spirit of challenge" that is close to customers and the high level of technical ability that embodies this spirit has attracted the attention of watch enthusiasts and earned them a loyal fan base. Finally, we asked about CVSTOS's future prospects.

Challenge Sealiner Chrono

Challenge Sealiner Chrono

"We intend to grow step by step. Our current annual production volume is around 1200 to 1500 bottles, but our goal is to increase that to around 2500 bottles in three to five years. However, we are currently in the process of developing the market. The number of bottles we need to produce will change depending on how well we do. We plan to grow little by little by resetting our targets and investing in equipment (if necessary) while watching the situation."

CVSTOS has a down-to-earth attitude that seems the complete opposite of their impactful product lineup. However, Stefan Kunz said that they are considering producing sapphire crystal in-house in the future, revealing their willingness to take on ambitious challenges. It is this aggressive attitude that has allowed CVSTOS to establish a strong character among the many watch brands.
