TAG Heuer, a long-established brand with a proven track record of challenges

As adults, we often take on more responsible positions at work and our lifestyles change dramatically. Many of us are looking to acquire a luxury watch as a symbol of our accomplishments or as a new hobby. For those of you who are interested, we recommend the sports watches from the long-established Swiss brand, TAG Heuer.

The origins of TAG Heuer date back to the workshop founded by Edouard Heuer in Saint-Imier, Switzerland in 1860. In 1887, the company obtained a patent for an improved oscillating pinion, which became the basis for the modern chronograph. In 1916, the company released the Mikrograph, a stopwatch capable of measuring time to 1/100 of a second, and continued to develop products with a focus on advancing timekeeping technology.

Its superior technical capabilities were quickly recognized around the world, and it became the official timekeeper for numerous sporting events, including the Olympic Games. In motorsports in particular, the company made its presence felt with the success of the racing dashboard chronograph "Autavia," and subsequently produced a succession of masterpieces, such as the "Carrera" and "Monaco," beloved by professional racers.

There are many other current models of watches besides TAG Heuer that offer a certain level of quality in terms of construction, precision, and durability. However, TAG Heuer watches have a strong story to tell, with a history of evolution loved by professionals and an iconic design that continues to live on. These stories not only serve as a guarantee of long-term reliability, but should also serve as a source of inspiration for you in the future.

5 Tag Heuer watches recommended for adults in their 40s and 50s

We have picked out five current Tag Heuer models that we recommend for adults.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, Ref. CBS2216.BA0041

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph" Ref.CBS2216.BA0041
The Carrera features a cool "panda dial." It features many functions, including two counters, a small second hand, a date display, and a tachymeter, all wrapped up in a clean design. Automatic (Cal. TH20-00). 33 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 80 hours. Stainless steel case (39mm diameter, 13.9mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 940,500 yen (tax included).

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph was redesigned in 2023. This variation, released this year, features the so-called "panda dial." Its sporty yet elegant design, reminiscent of a classic racing chronograph, creates a sophisticated impression on the wrist.

The silver dial features two black subdials: a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock. The scale on the outer periphery of the subdials is angled, with a record-like groove in the center, enhancing the dial's three-dimensional appearance and visibility. The hands of the two counters and the central chronograph second hand are red, preventing confusion between the time display and the chronograph display, a consideration unique to a company accustomed to creating practical chronographs. A small second and date display are located at 6 o'clock, adding to the watch's high functionality.

The charm of this piece extends to the inner ring, which is encased in a glass box-shaped sapphire crystal. The inner ring, which creates the visual effect of being one with the sapphire crystal, is decorated with a tachymeter and has a design that makes the dial appear to protrude.

The sharp lines of the case and the pump-shaped pushers, which suggest a delicate design, further accentuate the elegance of this watch. Although it is a racing chronograph, it is not overly massive, and its design makes it easy to coordinate with formal attire such as a suit.

New TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph" Ref. CBS2211.FC6545
Combining a design inspired by classics of the past with modern coloring and the latest movement, this watch truly embodies tradition and innovation. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique model. Automatic (Cal. TH20-07). 33 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 80 hours. Stainless steel case (39mm diameter, 13.9mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 929,500 yen (tax included).

This TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph features a distinctive dial layout inspired by the DATO 45, which was released in 1965. It has a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a date display at 9 o'clock, but does not feature a 12-hour counter or small seconds. The original had a 45-minute counter instead of a 30-minute counter, but this model uses a standard 30-minute counter, making it more user-friendly than a regular chronograph.

The dial is green, with a circular satin finish that gives it a subdued impression. Green is a color that has been gaining attention recently, but this elegant color, reminiscent of British racing green, is not just a trend, but seems to embody TAG Heuer's deep connection with motorsport.

The minute markers around the dial are raised, and together with the glass box-type sapphire crystal, they give the dial a three-dimensional look. The indexes, aligned with the cone-shaped dial, are also an important element in giving the watch a rich look.

The stainless steel case has a clean form typical of the Carrera. Because there is no crown guard, pushers and crown can be operated smoothly.

The movement is the Cal. TH20-07, an automatic chronograph with a power reserve of approximately 80 hours. The movement of the rotor, balance, column wheel, and other components, as well as the striped decoration on the bridge, can be viewed through the see-through case back.

TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph, Ref. CAW211P.FC6356

TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph, Ref. CAW211P.FC6356

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph" Ref. CAW211P.FC6356
This model is a reproduction of the original Monaco design. The original deliberately placed the crown at 9 o'clock to emphasize that it was an automatic watch and therefore did not require manual winding. Automatic winding (Cal. 11). 28,800 vibrations per hour. Power reserve of approximately 40 hours. Stainless steel case (39mm x 39mm, 14.3mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 1,127,500 yen (tax included).

The Monaco is known as the world's first square-shaped waterproof chronograph watch. This model follows the design of the original model equipped with the Caliber 11. Caliber 11, one of the world's earliest automatic chronograph movements, was introduced in 1969 and was jointly developed by Heuer, Breitling, Büren, and Dubois-Dépraz. Models equipped with the Caliber 11, which combines a micro-rotor automatic movement with a chronograph module, feature a distinctive exterior layout with pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock and a crown at 9 o'clock. The original Monaco, worn by Steve McQueen in the 1969 film "Le Mans," is a highly sought-after collector's item.

This current model incorporates the latest technology and faithfully reproduces the original design, including a blue dial with a white square inner dial, red indexes and hands, and the Heuer logo.

The case construction has been improved to a level appropriate for a current model, with a box-shaped sapphire crystal, a sharp square case with a satin and polished finish, and pushers with rounded corners for a more comfortable feel.

The strap is made of perforated leather and features a folding buckle for safe and secure fastening. The movement is the same Cal. 11 as the original. While it is still a modular automatic chronograph, it is not a direct successor.

The Monaco is considered an important milestone in watch history, making it a fitting companion for passionate adults who continue to take on new challenges.

TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph, Ref. CBL2113.BA0644

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph" Ref. CBL2113.BA0644
The Monaco features a chic sunray-finish black dial. Its exquisitely crafted exterior, including a stainless steel bracelet with H-shaped links and a sharply shaped square case, is also appealing. Automatic (Cal. Heuer 02). 33 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 80 hours. Stainless steel case (39mm x 39mm, 15.21mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 1,072,500 yen (tax included).

The Monaco is equipped with the in-house movement, Cal. Heuer 02. The chic black dial has a sunray finish, giving it an elegant impression. The central chronograph second hand used to start the chronograph, the 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, and the 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock are red, and the inset dials are white, adding a sporty touch. The crown is located at 3 o'clock, following the same layout as a typical chronograph watch.

The exterior features a powerful satin finish on the sides of the case and bezel, with polished accents on the tops of the lugs, creating a three-dimensional finish. The stainless steel bracelet employs an H-shaped link structure, which was also used on the Monaco in the early 1970s. The satin finish is the base, with polished links in the center, creating a sharp design that harmonizes with the case. The case back is see-through, allowing you to view the movement inside.

The Caliber Heuer 02 is an automatic movement that controls the chronograph with a vertical clutch and column wheel, and has a long power reserve of approximately 80 hours.

This is a typical Tag Heuer model that combines opposing elements such as calm coloring and avant-garde design, a 1970s atmosphere and the latest specifications.

"Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300" Ref. WBP5110.BA0013

TAG Heuer Aquaracer WBP5110.BA0013

TAG Heuer "TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300" Ref. WBP5110.BA0013
A diver's watch with 300m water resistance. It features a dial with a three-dimensional pattern reminiscent of sparkling waves. The 12-sided bezel, a hallmark of the Aquaracer, also has the practical benefit of being easy to grip and turn by hand. Automatic winding (Cal. TH31-00). 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 80 hours. Stainless steel case (42mm diameter, 12mm thick). 300m water resistance. Price: 583,000 yen (tax included).

While the collections with a strong connection to motorsports, such as the Carrera and Monaco, dominate the lineup, the Aquaracer diver's watch should not be forgotten. This latest model follows the stylish design of the Aquaracer, such as its dodecagonal bezel and short lugs for easy handling, and features a dial with a three-dimensional pattern reminiscent of waves.

The black dial is contrasted by white Super-LumiNova-coated indices and hands, which not only ensure high visibility but also enhance legibility thanks to their different shapes. The date display at 6 o'clock is easily readable thanks to a magnifying lens mounted on the sapphire crystal.

The bezel insert, which is the same color as the dial and made of scratch-resistant and weather-resistant ceramic, features minute markings up to the 15th minute, and numbers or abbreviations every 5 minutes thereafter.

The case is relatively thin for a 300m water-resistant diver's watch, making it easy to handle. In addition to the tool-like design, which is mainly made up of satin finish, the presence of a crown guard and polished chamfers create an overall sharp impression.

The case back features a diving helmet motif engraved directly onto the case, and the stainless steel bracelet is equipped with a fine adjustment mechanism, making it an intricate design down to the smallest details.

The movement used is the Cal. TH31-00, which was developed in collaboration with AMT, a high-end Swiss movement manufacturer. In addition to a power reserve of approximately 80 hours, it also boasts high precision, earning it COSC-certified chronometer status.
