5 Diving Watches with Water Resistance of 1000m or More

Diving watches are one of the most popular genres of sports watches. They are tool watches developed for professionals who work underwater, and their waterproofing technology has evolved over time to suit military use and the rise of marine sports since the late 1950s.

The appeal of such a diver's watch lies in its high water resistance and functionality, designed for use in diving. While this performance may be considered overkill for everyday use, the technology that makes it possible and its performance-oriented design are captivating in a romantic sense. It's like choosing a muscle car that can reach its top speed in just a few seconds as your everyday car. While it's difficult to fully utilize these features, this outstanding functionality is sure to enhance the satisfaction of wearing it in everyday life.

This time, we've focused on water resistance of 1000m or more, which makes it easy to appreciate the appeal of over-spec watches, and picked out models from various brands that are also suitable for everyday use. Because of their high specs, many of these models are on the larger side for divers' watches, but this also makes them easy to incorporate as accents into your outfits. We introduce five models below.

Breitling Superocean Automatic 46 Superdiver

Breitling has produced a wide range of professional-grade models for land, air, and sea. We have selected a watch from their Superocean diver's watch line, featuring a camouflage dial.

Automatic (cal. Breitling 10). 25 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 42 hours. Ti case (diameter 46mm, thickness 12.2mm). 1000m water resistant. 957,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Breitling Japan Tel. 0120-105-707

This model inherits the design of the previous model, named "Superocean Slow Motion," while adding a modern touch. The camouflage-patterned dial features a wide rectangular diver scale on the hands, indexes, bezel, and dial ring, providing high visibility.

In addition, the watch's perfection as a tool watch has been enhanced with features such as hands and indexes coated with Super-LumiNova and a bidirectional rotating bezel that can be secured against accidental movement using a patented locking system at the 9 o'clock position on the case.

The case is water resistant to 1000m and features a soft iron inner case for anti-magnetic protection, while the use of titanium keeps the weight down to 144g. The bracelet is available in either rubber or titanium, both of which can be adjusted up to 15mm using a folding clasp.

This model, which pursues perfection as a diver's watch while also featuring a fashionable camo pattern, is a useful addition to urban and casual settings. The case diameter is 46mm. The movement is the Breitling Cal. 10, which has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.

Seiko "Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Professional"

Seiko Prospex, a watch series developed by Seiko, a leading Japanese watch brand, is designed for use in sports and outdoor activities. The lineup also includes a wide variety of diver's watches, ranging from casual functional models to models suitable for serious sports.

Quartz (Cal. 7C46). 7 jewels. Ti case (diameter 49.4 mm, thickness 16.3 mm). 1000m saturation diving water resistance. 395,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Seiko Watch Customer Service Tel. 0120-061-012

The Ref. The pure titanium case is further covered with a Super Black Diamond Shield, making it lightweight yet scratch-resistant. The robust one-piece titanium case also provides saturation diving water resistance of 1000 meters.

The black dial has a very simple layout, and the luminous hands and indexes stand out against the black. This basic dial, designed with visibility in mind, is a true tool watch look.

Another appealing feature of this piece is its impressive size, with a diameter of 49.4mm and a thickness of 16.3mm. The unique form born from the pursuit of durability makes it an ideal item to accentuate any outfit.

The watch is equipped with the quartz movement, Cal. 7C46. This easy-to-use quartz movement does not require winding the mainspring or frequent time adjustments, making it a reliable companion not only for diving but also for everyday life.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller

Rolex began its history as a watch trading company founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1905, and has always been at the forefront of practical watch brands. It is particularly known as a pioneer of waterproof watches, and its superior technical capabilities are clearly reflected in modern diver's watches.

From Rolex, we have picked out the current model of the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller, which was developed in 1967 for saturation diving.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller

Rolex "Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller" Ref. 126600
Automatic winding (Cal. 3235). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 43mm). Water resistant to 1220m.

With a dial that's easy to read day or night, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and a robust case, this model is a model of a diver's watch, and it features numerous specifications for serious diving. The helium release valve, patented in 1967 and essential for saturation diving, is a symbol of a high-spec diver's watch. This feature automatically releases helium atoms when surfacing from a saturation dive, minimizing damage to the watch caused by decompression.

It also features many other features suitable for saturation diving, such as a unidirectional rotating bezel with a Cerachrom insert and a Chromalight display on the indexes and hands.

The Triplock crown with its triple-layered gasket ensures water resistance of 1220 meters (4000 feet). The three markers under the crown are proof of this construction. This model also boasts a date display (although it features a Cyclops lens) for everyday use, a lustrous Cerachrom bezel insert, and a carefully crafted case and bracelet, making it a watch suitable for business and other occasions. The design, inherited from the original model, is classic yet still retains its timeless appeal.

The movement is the Cal. 3235, which was granted 14 patents during its development. Not only is it anti-magnetic and shock-resistant, it is also a fully in-house manufactured movement that boasts high accuracy of ±2 seconds per day and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

Jin "U50.HYDRO"

The German watch brand Sinn, officially known as "Sinn Spezialuhren GmbH," lives up to its name by producing many tool watches suitable for special situations. U50.HYDRO

Jin "U50.HYDRO"
Quartz (Cal. Ronda 715 Li). 5 jewels. U-boat steel case (diameter 41mm, thickness 11.8mm). 500 bar water resistance. 656,700 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Hotta Tel. 03-5148-2174

The U50 HYDRO is part of the professional diver's line, the "U50." By utilizing hydrotechnology, this model achieves exceptional water resistance of 500 bar. Furthermore, its unique structure, which seals oil inside the case, reduces light reflection, allowing the dial to be read from any angle, even underwater.

The case measures 41mm in diameter and 11.8mm thick, giving it a relatively compact feel despite its ultra-waterproof rating. Crafted from U-boat steel, the same steel used to build German submarines, it boasts proven strength, seawater resistance, and non-magnetic properties. Additionally, the watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel attached using special bonding techniques, a crown at 4 o'clock, and other design features designed for professional use.

The monochrome design with red accents highlights the simplicity that is characteristic of Sinn, making it suitable for any occasion. Its use of U-boat steel makes it a diver's watch that will surely appeal to military enthusiasts.

The watch's hydrotechnology means that the movement is exposed to liquid, so it's worth noting that it uses a quartz movement. It's also highly resistant to temperature changes, making it a practical choice.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep

Founded in 1848, Omega has solidified its reputation and recognition with the legend of the Moonwatch and its adoption as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games.
