Introducing 5 carefully selected watches from Citizen's new 2024 collection!
Citizen is a watch manufacturer that was founded in 1918 as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute. The company has led the Japanese watch industry, working closely with fellow Japanese watchmaker Seiko. They have produced a variety of innovative products, including Japan's first electronic watch and the world's first analog light-powered quartz watch. Today, they offer a wide range of watches, from highly functional quartz watches with GPS reception and light-powered Eco-Drive technology to models equipped with full-fledged mechanical movements.
This time, we will introduce five models from Citizen's new 2024 collection. Each model is a masterpiece that showcases the company's signature technical prowess and excellent design.
Citizen Series Eight "890 Mechanical" Ref. NB6060-58L
This new addition to the Series Eight line combines sportiness with urban luxury. It boasts outstanding functionality, including 20-atmosphere water resistance, a highly legible dial, and a rotating inner bezel. Automatic (Cal. 9051). 24 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Stainless steel case (42.6mm diameter, 11.7mm thick). 20-atmosphere water resistance. Price: 198,000 yen (tax included).
Citizen's Series Eight was revived in 2021. The newest addition to the series is the "890 Mechanical," featuring an appealing sporty design. Like its predecessor, this model not only features a second-class magnetic closure to suit modern lifestyles, but also boasts 20-atmosphere water resistance, making it suitable for a wider range of occasions.
The dial features a diver's style with dot and bar indexes and thick hands. The patterned dial combines the night view of Tokyo with a traditional checkerboard pattern, creating a modern design characteristic of the Series Eight. The inner bezel rotates in both directions by operating the crown at the 2 o'clock position. By aligning the triangular marker with the minute hand, elapsed time can be measured.
The case, which is based on straight lines, has a strong satin finish and polished areas, creating a three-dimensional look. The bracelet is designed to be integrated with the case, creating a sharp impression.
The movement is the mechanical automatic Cal. 9051, which can be viewed through the see-through case back.
Citizen Promaster "Mechanical GMT" Ref. NB6046-59E
A professional pilot's watch with a second time zone display and an aviation slide rule. The case back is engraved with an illustration of a pilot's helmet. Automatic (Cal. 9054). 24 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 50 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 44.5mm, thickness 12.7mm). Water resistant to 20 bar. Price: 148,500 yen (tax included).
This pilot watch, part of the PROMASTER "SKY" lineup, is equipped with a mechanical GMT movement and is characterized by its high functionality and sturdy exterior.
The black dial, which prioritizes visibility, is lined with large indexes coated with luminous paint. Arabic numerals at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions make it possible to instantly determine the direction of the watch, even in the dark. The GMT hand is colored red, and the 24-hour display on the gray-plated bezel allows you to know the time in a second time zone. An aviation slide rule is located around the outer edge of the dial, and simple calculations can be performed by rotating the crown at 8 o'clock.
The 44.5mm diameter case is made of stainless steel. The shape of the lugs that connect the case and bracelet is inspired by aircraft. The extensive use of hairlines enhances the tool-like feel.
Not only does it have the functionality of a pilot's watch, but it also has specifications suitable for a professional tool, such as a Type 2 magnetic movement and a sturdy case that is water resistant to 20 atmospheres.
Citizen Eco-Drive One Ref.AR5064-57L
This is a limited edition Eco-Drive One model featuring an ultra-thin light-powered quartz movement. The Prussian blue dial and black Duratect DLC exterior create a sporty impression. Light-powered quartz movement. Stainless steel + Duratect DLC case (38mm diameter, 3.88mm thick). Water resistant to 5 bar. Limited to 250 pieces worldwide. Price: 495,000 yen (tax included).
The Eco-Drive One is equipped with the world's thinnest light-powered movement, measuring just 1mm thick. This latest model is a limited edition of 250 pieces worldwide.
The dial is a deep Prussian blue, and features a minimalist design with only bar indexes, hour and minute hands, and the brand logo.
The case and bracelet are coated with Duratect DLC, enhancing scratch resistance while giving the watch an all-black exterior. The integrated design of the case and bracelet gives it a sporty look. Equipped with an ultra-thin movement, the case is only 3.88mm thick. While it is difficult to ensure sufficient water resistance with a thin case, this model achieves water resistance to 5 bar, making it suitable for everyday use.
The light-powered movement installed in this watch can continue to operate for approximately one year on a full charge. Of course, there is no need to change the battery periodically, which also helps keep running costs down.
Citizen Attesa "ACT Line" Ref. CC4074-61W
This high-end Attesa model features GPS satellite signal reception. Its elegant black and pink gold color scheme is appealing. It features a light-powered quartz movement, a Super Titanium + Duratect DLC case (44.6mm diameter, 15.4mm thick), and is water resistant to 10 bar. Priced at 341,000 yen (tax included).
This elegant new addition to the Attesa line of titanium watches, a symbol of Citizen's technology. The Attesa lineup primarily features watches for business settings, but the "ACT Line" in particular features a design that can be worn with both suits and casual wear, in keeping with the diversifying business styles.
The sharply designed exterior features a copper-colored dial with a rough sunray pattern and metallic paint, combined with a titanium case and bracelet coated with Duratect DLC, and accents of Duratect Pink throughout, giving the watch a bold yet elegant look.
Another appealing feature of this watch is its excellent functionality. Equipped with a GPS satellite signal receiver, it can provide accurate time anywhere in the world, and its light-powered Eco-Drive system eliminates the need for periodic battery changes. The Japanese paper dial expresses the natural art of sand, woven by wind and sand, with a ripple pattern. The blue-gray gradation creates a sense of depth. Light-powered quartz movement. The Citizen is Citizen's flagship brand, launched in 1995. It has earned a reputation for precision, quality, hospitality, and simple yet meticulous design. This new model, released in 2024, is part of the Iconic Nature Collection, which features a washi paper dial that captures a moment in the ever-changing natural scenery.
The dial's theme is "wind." By layering blue-gray gradations and patterns on the bamboo blind weave, a texture of Tosa Seicho paper, the dial evokes the wind-generated sand patterns seen in deserts and sand dunes.
The case and bracelet are made of Super Titanium, a titanium material coated with Duratect Platinum, which takes advantage of titanium's lightweight and corrosion-resistant properties while also achieving a high level of aesthetic appeal with its shining white color.
The quartz movement has a high accuracy of ±5 seconds per year, and is equipped with a light-powered Eco-Drive and perpetual calendar. It boasts excellent specifications that are typical of The Citizen.
