Introducing Tudor's Chronograph Models

Tudor is a brand founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, known as the founder of Rolex. It was once known as a Rolex diffusion brand, but now it has established its own unique identity by developing a classic collection that takes design inspiration from its own archives and by switching from generic movements to in-house movements.

In Tudor's current lineup, chronograph models are available in the Black Bay and Pelagos FXD collections. Both are characterized by practical functionality and excellent durability, exemplified by 200m water resistance. Furthermore, they feature many of the company's iconic designs, including the thick hour hand known as the "snowflake hand," making them the perfect choice for experiencing the unique charm of Tudor.

Current Tudor chronograph models are equipped with the in-house movement, the Caliber MT5813. Released in 2017, this movement boasts COSC-certified accuracy and a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, making it a highly practical movement. In addition to the chronograph function, which employs a column wheel and vertical clutch, it also features a silicon balance spring for magnetic resistance and stability, contributing to the watch's "tool watch" feel.

Below we introduce four carefully selected representative models.

Black Bay Chrono "Blue"

The Black Bay is Tudor's signature collection. Based on the classic diver's watch, the Oyster Prince Submariner, it has a classic yet rugged look. As a core collection, it is available in a wide variety of variations, making it truly representative of Tudor.

Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Blue" M79360b-0002

Tudor Black Bay Chrono Ref. M79360B-0002
Automatic movement (Cal. MT5813). 41 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 41mm, thickness 14.4mm). Water resistant to 200m. Price: 864,600 yen (tax included).

Among the Black Bay chronograph models, the boutique-exclusive Ref. M79360B-0002 is a cool-looking model that highlights the iconic "Tudor Blue." The sunray-finished dial and anodized bezel insert are colored in vibrant blue, while the silver subdials, hands, and indexes create a striking look. This model boasts a cool, fashionable look while maintaining the legibility essential to a tool watch.

Tudor is known as the brand that pioneered the use of blue in its watch designs, and this model offers a glimpse of their pioneering side. The fact that it was released as a boutique-exclusive model also highlights the special position that "Tudor Blue" holds for the brand.

This model features a five-link bracelet. Only the central three links are polished, adding a touch of elegance to the look, while the "T-fit" adjusting clasp provides enhanced comfort. This clasp allows for easy, tool-free adjustment to five positions up to 8mm in length.

Black Bay Chrono

Tudor Black Bay Chrono Ref. M79360N-0011/M79360N-0011
Automatic movement (Cal. MT5813). 41 jewels. 28,800 vph. Stainless steel case (41mm diameter, 14.4mm thick). 200m water resistant. 848,100 yen each (tax included).

These two models feature a black or white dial and a black bezel insert, giving them a more masculine look. The dial layout is based on Tudor's first chronograph model, the Oysterdate Chronograph, which was released in 1970, with a domed dial featuring two recessed subdials and a calendar. The pushers at 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock are also screw-type, just like the original, making these revival models highly refined.

This model also boasts a number of distinctive Black Bay design features. The crown features a rose relief and other attention to detail, including the thick, snowflake-patterned hour hand, making it instantly recognizable as a Tudor diver's watch. Furthermore, the hour hand, combined with the circular-grained inset dial, creates a strong monochrome contrast, enhancing readability.

The bracelet is a robust three-row link type with a classic style featuring rivets on the sides, perfectly matching the dial's classical feel. A five-row link bracelet is also available as a variation, offering a more dressy look.

Black Bay Chrono S&G

The Ref. M79363N-0007 is a combination model crafted in 18K yellow gold. The dial is an expressive champagne gold color, matched with a black inset dial and bezel insert. The tachymeter and inset dial scale are gold, creating a striking contrast that creates a striking presence.

The crown is covered with a gold cap, and the two pushers and bezel are both made of 18K yellow gold. The bracelet is a three-link type with rivets, with only the center link covered in a gold cap. Its elegant appearance, reminiscent of the classic "combination model," will appeal to enthusiasts seeking a luxurious feel in their watches.

This model is also available in other variations, such as a model with a reversed dial color, a brown leather strap, and a black fabric strap.

Pelagos FXD Chrono

The Pelagos FXD, part of Tudor's Pelagos line of professional diver's watches, was developed in collaboration with the French Navy's special forces. Featuring a sturdy case with a fixed strap bar, the Pelagos FXD also includes a chronograph model and a GMT model with enhanced functionality.

Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono M25807KN-0001

Tudor Pelagos FXD "Alinghi Red Bull Racing" Ref. M25807KN-0001
Automatic movement (Cal. MT5813). 41 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Carbon fiber case (diameter 43mm, thickness 13.6mm). Water resistant to 200m. Price: 800,800 yen (tax included).

The featured model, Ref. M25807KN-0001, commemorates the partnership with the yacht team Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Based on the Pelagos FXD, it features a chronograph function and incorporates the team's signature blue and red colors, making it a model that symbolizes the spirit of the challengers who take on the most demanding yacht races.

Another notable feature of this model is that it is the first time that Tudor has used carbon composite for the case material. This material is extremely light yet highly robust, giving this model the agility of a yacht. Furthermore, the bezel and crown are made of titanium, which is also characterized by its lightness and high robustness, making this a model that consistently pursues lightness and toughness.

The strap is a fabric strap with a self-grip fastening system, and features a uniform coloring, making it easy to wear even over a diver's suit.
