5 Chopard watches recommended for people in their 40s
Chopard is a brand founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard. From the beginning, the company focused on high-precision watches that met the standards of pocket watches and chronometers, and grew to the point where it had customers including the Russian Imperial Family. After German jeweler Karl Scheufele took over the business in 1963, the company established a new direction by combining watchmaking and jeweling. In 1976, it introduced the "Happy Diamonds" wristwatch, a watch with moving diamonds between two sapphire crystals, and its highly original watchmaking became known around the world.
Through this history, Chopard has strengthened its presence in the jewelry market, and since establishing its own manufacturing base in Fleurier, Switzerland in 1996, it has also focused on producing manufacture movements. The company then announced its first signature movement, the Cal. 96.01-L, and released the LUC 1860, which was equipped with this movement. Since then, the company has continued to hone its watchmaking techniques as a manufacture.
Chopard's current lineup of recommended watches for men in their 40s includes the LUC, which embodies the company's watchmaking tradition, the Alpine Eagle luxury sports watch, and the Mille Miglia, whose design was inspired by the race of the same name.
Each collection not only reflects the brand's watchmaking approach, which continues to innovate while preserving tradition, but also reflects the delicate aesthetic sense cultivated as a jeweler. Their timeless and luxurious designs are sure to appeal to the diverse lifestyles and values of people in their 40s. Furthermore, with COSC-certified chronometer movements, they offer performance that suits businesspeople who value practicality in their watches. They are worthy of adorning the wrists of men entering their next 40 years.
Chopard is currently promoting its "Journey to Sustainable Luxury" and continues to pursue sustainability in the manufacture of its watches and jewelry. Not only do they emphasize responsible sourcing with as much transparency as possible, but they also use recycled materials to minimize the environmental impact of their creative work.
Below, we introduce five Chopard watches that we recommend for people in their 40s.
"LUC 1860" Reference 168860-3003
The LUC collection occupies a particularly important position in Chopard's lineup. Its luxurious and timeless lineup is consistently equipped with in-house movements that boast excellent precision and exceptional finishing, making it a symbol of the company's Haute Horlogerie, living up to the collection's name, which is a play on the name of the company's founder.

Automatic (Cal. LUC 96.40-L). 29 jewels. Power reserve approximately 65 hours. 28,800 vph. Lucent Steel™ case (36.5mm diameter, 8.2mm thick). Water resistant to 30m. Price: 4,048,000 yen (tax included).
From LUC, we have picked the "LUC 1860." This is a reproduction of the model of the same name that was released in 1997, and its iconic design has been reworked using modern technology and materials.
The dial is salmon-colored, and hand-guilloched by artisans around the "Chopard" logo at 12 o'clock. The watch also features a no-date design, which differs from the original model, and the wedge-shaped indexes and small seconds dial give it a truly classic look.
The case is made of LucentSteel™, a steel material that contains 80% recycled materials. In addition to its gold-like luster, the material boasts excellent material properties, including being approximately 1.5 times harder than regular steel and being anti-allergic.
The movement is the Caliber LUC 96.40-L, the brand's first in-house movement. Equipped with a gold bidirectional micro-rotor and twin barrels, it provides a power reserve of approximately 65 hours and is just 3.3mm thin, contributing to the slimness of the watch. The transparent case back allows you to admire the exceptional finishing that has earned it the Geneva Hallmark.
Alpine Eagle Large, Ref. 298600-3001
Chopard's signature luxury sports watch is the Alpine Eagle. Launched in 2019, this collection takes its design inspiration from the St. Moritz, the company's first sports watch and stainless steel watch.

Automatic winding (Cal. Chopard 01.01-C). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. Lucent Steel™ case (41mm diameter, 9.7mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 231 million yen (tax included).
The Ref. 298600-3001 features a 41mm case and a galvanically treated Bernina Gray dial. The seamlessly connected bracelet and case are crafted from Lucent Steel™, accentuated by polished and hairline finishes. The rounded octagonal bezel and its eight screws are a nod to the original design. This reimagined "luxury sports" design will easily complement any sophisticated man's outfit.
The dial features a spiral pattern that radiates from the center, evoking the image of an eagle's iris, or "eagle eye." The dynamic texture and the colors achieved through electroplating create a rich expression, making it instantly recognizable as an Alpine Eagle. The hands and indexes, while simple in design, stand out against the dial, and the Super-LumiNova finish ensures excellent visibility in dark places.
The movement is the in-house Chopard 01.01-C. In addition to excellent accuracy, it has a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, and its slim design also contributes to the case thickness of this model, which is less than 1 cm. The transparent case back allows you to see the hollowed-out rotor and decorations.
Alpine Eagle 41, Reference 298600-6001

Automatic winding (Cal. Chopard 01.01-C). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. 18K ethical rose gold and Lucent Steel™ case (diameter 41mm, thickness 9.7mm). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 3,817,000 yen (tax included).
Also from Alpine Eagle, we've picked out a combination model made of Lucent Steel™ and 18K rose gold. This model exudes a luxurious feel, with gold used on the bezel, crown, and even the polished parts of the bracelet. Both the 18K rose gold and the Lucent Steel™ have a high level of luster, making the exquisite contrast created by the brilliance of the different materials its greatest appeal.
The dial, decorated with the "Eagle Eye" design, is colored gray through electroplating, and the gold hands and indexes ensure high visibility. The design also creates a sense of unity throughout the watch. The movement is the same as the Alpine Eagle Large, featuring the Cal. Chopard 01.01-C.
By the way, the 18K rose gold used in this piece is an ethical gold material that shows consideration for sustainability.
Chopard only sources gold that has been certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) or that comes from miners that are members of certification schemes such as Fairmined and Fairtrade. Therefore, the gold used in its jewellery and watchmaking is sourced transparently from sources that respect human rights and the environment.
"Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph" Ref. 168619-3005
The Mille Miglia is a sports watch collection that pays homage to the classic car race of the same name. This race is known as "the most beautiful car race in the world," and this collection, which embodies its aesthetic, is full of shapes reminiscent of classic racing cars and classical designs.

Automatic winding. 37 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 54 hours. Lucent Steel™ case (diameter 40.5mm, thickness 12.88mm). Water resistant to 50m. Price: 1,474,000 yen (tax included).
From the Mille Miglia, we have picked the Ref. 168619-3005, which will be released in 2024. The dial design is unified in monochrome, and is inspired by the checkered flag, an essential part of car racing. This dial, also known as "La Gala," is similar to the "panda" design of chronographs, and is sure to exude a classic charm.
It's also worth noting the many classic details common to the Mille Miglia. The large, easy-to-operate crown, the pump-shaped pushers reminiscent of pistons, and the glass-box crystal that combines classic design with dial visibility ensure that neither individuality nor functionality is compromised. It's a watch that combines classical aesthetics and functional beauty, and is easy to wear even on the wrists of those in their 40s.
The case is crafted from Lucent Steel™, giving the rounded shape a lustrous finish and durability, creating an elegant, luxurious feel. The case is also fitted with a perforated black leather strap, further emphasizing the car racing motif of the design.
Alpine Eagle XL Chrono, Ref. 298609-3001

Automatic movement (Cal. CHOPARD 03.05-C). 45 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. Lucent Steel™ case (44mm diameter, 13.15mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. Price: 3,388,000 yen (tax included).
The Alpine Eagle reference 298609-3001 features a Lucent Steel™ case, which is slightly larger than the three-hand model, and is equipped with a flyback chronograph. With a diameter of 44mm and a thickness of 13.15mm, it has a strong presence and is an ideal choice for casual wrists for men in their 40s.
This model features an expressive Aletsch blue dial, packed with chronograph watch elements such as a tachymeter and various subdials. A 30-minute counter is located at 3 o'clock, a small second at 6 o'clock, and a 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock, providing a wealth of information that is typical of a tool watch.
On the other hand, the chronograph hands are accented with red, and the three subdials each have a different design, showing consideration for visibility and readability. This model can be said to have a high level of perfection as a measuring instrument.
The movement is the Cal. CHOPARD 03.05-C. It features a column-wheel chronograph function and three pivot hammers that allow for continuous operation of the flyback mechanism. It also has a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, and the transparent case back allows you to see the movement, snailed bridges, and circular-grained main plate.
