New series "FINE METALLIC SERIES"
In 2024, Casio Computer celebrated its 50th anniversary since entering the watch industry. The year saw the release of a variety of models to celebrate the occasion, including many limited edition models, the "Casiotron," and a reissue of the "Origin" DW-5000C, creating a year that excited many Casio fans. And in 2025, Casio is expected to further expand its collection, with the launch of a new concept series, the "FINE METALLIC SERIES."

A distinctive feature of this series is the use of a new resin band called the "Tough Silicone Band," which combines a smooth feel with a metallic appearance. This resin band has a multi-layered structure in which the back of the skeleton resin is vapor-deposited with gold or silver color and then covered with silicone resin, resulting in a shine similar to that of metal and a pleasant feel against the skin. In the FINE METALLIC SERIES, this band is combined with a metal-covered design case with a stainless steel bezel surrounding the inner case, resulting in a fashionable, fully metallic appearance.

The model we'll be reviewing today is the GM-2100YMG-9AJF, which belongs to the "2100" series with its slim octagonal design. The style of the 2100 series has now become the new standard for G-SHOCK, and can be seen in a variety of collections such as "Full Metal G-SHOCK" and "MR-G." It's likely due to its popularity that it was chosen as part of the new FINE METALLIC SERIES.

Quartz movement. Resin + stainless steel case (49.3mm x 44.4mm, 11.8mm thick). Water resistant to 20 bar. Price: 45,650 yen (tax included).
This model features the popular gold color of the "Full Metal" G-SHOCK, and is water resistant to 20 ATM and has excellent shock resistance, making it an attractive choice as a "gold" watch for everyday wear to complement casual outfits. Priced at 45,650 yen (tax included), this gold-colored model can be purchased for about 40,000 yen cheaper than the "Full Metal" G-SHOCK model of the same type and color, the GM-B2100GD-9AJF.
Gold-emphasized coloring
First, let's take a look at the gold-colored design. The dial features a classic contrast between black and gold, with the gold-colored hands and indexes making a striking presence. Gold is also used for the various markings, highlighting the pursuit of both visibility and a sense of unity for the entire watch.

The deep engraving on the outer edge of the dial serves as both a minute track and a design accent. This design, also seen on the same model with a metal-covered design, adds depth to the watch's appearance. Furthermore, the gold-colored bezel surrounding it features a hairline finish, while the case sides feature a mix of polished and hairline finishes. Like other metal models in the 2100 series, this design offers a distinctive appearance not found in resin models.

As someone who normally wears plastic G-SHOCKs or silver "full metal" G-SHOCKs, this review of wearing this watch was extremely refreshing. The all-gold G-SHOCK makes a statement every time you move your wrist, and just looking at it makes you excited. If you were to choose an outfit to coordinate with it, would it be American casual or street style? It would also be good as an accent to a rough surf style. It's safe to say that this kind of thinking is part of the unique appeal of this gold watch, which can be worn casually.
Smooth tough silicone band

The "tough silicone band" is also noteworthy, as it is the key to this watch's full metallic look. It goes without saying that it is very comfortable to wear. Silicone resin has flexibility that metal does not have, so it fits softly to the wrist, and there is no feeling of the head shaking. The fact that it has such a lightweight feel despite its metallic look was something that surprised me when I first put it on.

On the other hand, it's undeniable that this band looks cheap when compared to a stainless steel bracelet. However, achieving both a full metallic texture and comfortable wearability at a price of under 5 yen is a major achievement. Furthermore, resin bands are easy to use without worrying about scratches, and are also an easy choice for people with metal allergies. Combining practicality and aesthetics, we hope to see this band adopted in other collections and offered in even more colors.

Fashion > Functionality
Fashion-conscious G-SHOCKs, such as the GM-2110 series with its colorful metallic dials, tend to be modest in functionality. This model is no exception. It is a primary battery model without Tough Solar and does not have radio wave reception. This keeps the price down, making it a model that allows you to enjoy the metallic G-SHOCK casually. That said, it still has many of the typical G-SHOCK functions, such as a stopwatch, date and day of the week display, and world time function, so it can be said to have the appeal of a practical item.
A new option for casually enjoying the full metallic G-SHOCK
We reviewed the gold-colored model "GM-2100YMG-9AJF," which follows the design of the "2100," from the new "FINE METALLIC SERIES" series that was released in January 2025.
This model recreates the metallic G-SHOCK look, previously reserved for collections like the "Full Metal" G-SHOCK and MR-G, with a newly developed band. My impression from the impressions is that this is by no means a budget model. Pursuing maximum cost performance by reducing functionality while focusing on comfort and lightness, this model is a new option that broadens the fashionable appeal of G-SHOCK.
There are already an incredible number of G-SHOCK models available, but every year they continue to release models with designs and specifications that you'd never expect, like this metallic resin band model. Not only do I admire the inventiveness of the development team, who never run out of ideas, but I'm also amazed at the breadth of G-SHOCK's design capabilities.
