5 Orient Star recommendations for people in their 30s
Orient Star is one of Japan's leading watch brands. Since the launch of its first model, inspired by a "shining star," by Orient Watch Co., Ltd. in 1951, Orient Star has made strides as a fully-fledged mechanical watch brand. Since Orient Watch became a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko Epson in 2009 and was integrated into the company in 2017, the brand has been developing cutting-edge watchmaking, including the use of silicon escape wheels that utilize semiconductor technology.

Orient Star has a long history and cutting-edge technology, but its appeal lies in its ability to offer affordable mechanical watches. The reason the brand has been able to offer both excellent quality and reasonable pricing is due to its solid technical capabilities cultivated over many years and its in-house manufacturing system, which includes the movement itself, and this has helped to boost the brand's popularity both domestically and internationally.
Another appealing feature of Orient Star watches is their strikingly original designs. In particular, the skeleton dial is a design that symbolizes the brand and has been used in many models since the release of the "Mon Bijou" in 1991. This dial, which allows you to enjoy the intricate design unique to mechanical watches, not only creates an elegant and unique look on the wrist, but also deepens the joy of owning a watch.
Orient Star's current lineup includes a wide range of designs, from modern to classic, sports to dress. Among them, the "M Collections," launched in 2023, is drawing keen attention from watch enthusiasts as a watch with a rich look and functionality, featuring star cluster and nebula motifs. This diverse lineup is sure to meet the diverse needs of users.
Orient Star watches are one of the brands we recommend to people in their 30s, who are likely to experience major changes in both their business and personal lives. Their unique designs are a powerful tool for self-expression, and their diverse lineup caters to the diverse lifestyles of people in their 30s. Furthermore, their prices, centered around the 10 to 30 yen range, make them affordable even for those choosing a full-fledged mechanical watch for the first time, making it easy to experience their excellent cost performance.
In this article, we will introduce a carefully selected list of models that are recommended for people in their 30s and that encapsulate the charm of Orient Star.
Orient Star "M34 Avant-garde F8 Skeleton" Ref.RK-BZ0004B
The M34, one of the M Collections, refers to the open star cluster in the constellation Perseus, a hero from Greek mythology. The collection features a diverse lineup of models, all of which boast urban yet stylish designs. Among these, the M34 Avant-garde F8 Skeleton is positioned as the collection's signature model, as it was the brand's first to use a silicon escape wheel.

Automatic movement (Cal. F8F64). 24 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 42.3mm, thickness 12.4mm). Water resistant to 10 bar. Price: 143,000 yen (tax included).
The Ref. RK-BZ0004B we picked out features a solid texture with a black-plated case and bracelet. The power reserve indicator is located at 12 o'clock and the small seconds at 6 o'clock, creating a striking contrast between silver and black. A blue silicon escape wheel can be seen near the center of the dial, and its lively movement adds a subtle accent to the dial.
The case is 42.3mm in diameter, and its tapered lugs give it a refined shape. The six hexagonal screws on the bezel are a common design element in the M34 Avant-Garde F8 Skeleton series. The transparent case back allows you to enjoy the movement's structure from both the front and back.
The movement used is the aforementioned Cal. F8F64. The use of a silicon escape wheel provides excellent anti-magnetic performance, while also providing stable accuracy of +15 seconds to -5 seconds and a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, making it highly practical.
Orient Star "Contemporary Collection" Ref. RK-AV0B12E
The Layered Skeleton, a series in the Contemporary Collection, features a multi-layered dial made up of two layers. Each layer has a different finish and color, allowing for a richer, more in-depth design.

The Ref. RK-AV0B12E features a mint green dial, evoking the open atmosphere of the Mediterranean. The two layers are colored in the same shade, and each features a radial finish, further accentuating the refreshing coloring. Additionally, darker colors are used around the power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock and the bold openwork, further enhancing the sense of depth.
The case design is inspired by the natural drape of the fabric used in suits, with a graceful curve from the side to the lugs, which complements the short, elegant bracelet.
The movement is Cal. F6F44, with a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. The key feature is that it can be viewed from both the partially openworked dial and the transparent case back. This is a limited edition model, and the limited edition number (1 to 400) is engraved on the case back. A replacement brown calfskin strap is also included.
Orient Star "M42 Diver 1964 2nd Edition F6 Date 200m" Ref. RK-AU0701B
The M42, one of the M Collections, is inspired by the Orion Nebula, named after the son of the sea god Poseidon. As its name suggests, the lineup includes diver's watches with high water resistance and reliability.

Automatic movement (Cal. F6N47). 22 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 50 hours. Ti case (diameter 41mm, thickness 14.3mm). Water resistant to 200m. Price: 187,000 yen (tax included).
The Ref. RK-AU0701B is a revival model of the Calendar Auto Orient, the second diver's watch in Orient's history. While retaining the original features of the dial and bezel, it has been updated for modern times with features such as a power reserve indicator and 200m water resistance in accordance with the ISO 6425 standard.
The case and bracelet are made of lightweight yet robust titanium. The hairline finish accentuates the unique texture of titanium and gives the watch an overall powerful look. Incidentally, the sharp lug shape of the case is also a reproduction of the original lug.
The movement is the Cal. F6N47, which has a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. With its lightweight feel and retro sporty design, this model is an attractive choice not only as a diver's watch, but also as a city watch.

The Ref. RK-BX0003L is the flagship model in the M34 collection.
The first thing that catches your eye on this watch is its blue dial, which represents the Perseid meteor shower raining down in the night sky. Crafted using the techniques of Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo, the dial's rich expression is enhanced by the intricate patterns created by hand-carved molds. The color expression also utilizes optical multi-layer coating technology developed by Epson, resulting in a deep hue reminiscent of the night sky. This is a luxurious dial made possible by artisanal skill and cutting-edge technology.
The laid-out hands and indexes are simply shaped yet meticulously polished, making them not only highly legible but also highlighting the emotional expression of the dial. Similarly, the case and bracelet feature a skillful combination of polished and hairline finishes, creating an elegant and luxurious appearance. Orient Star "M45 F8 Skeleton Hand Winding" Ref.RK-AZ0002S
"M45," one of the M Collections, is a collection based on the Pleiades star cluster, also known as "Subaru." It features a timeless design that will not fade over time, and its calm expression makes it suitable for any occasion or wearer of any age.

Manual winding (Cal. F8B63). 22 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 38.8 mm, thickness 10.6 mm). Water resistant to 5 bar. Price: 352,000 yen (tax included).
The Ref. RK-AZ0002S is a manual-winding model released to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Orient Star's founding. What's particularly noteworthy about this watch is its extremely lightweight movement, the Cal. F8B63, which can be seen through the skeleton dial. The surface of the baseplate features a spiral pattern, and the edges are carefully chamfered, allowing the intricate movement and decoration to be admired in detail through the dial.
The dial of this watch is also finished with a look that shows no compromise in the details. The two cutouts at the 9 o'clock position, which are reminiscent of the tail of a comet, and the silicon escape wheel peeking out from the small seconds hand, which resembles the Milky Way Galaxy, are good examples of this. You can fully experience the skeleton watch manufacturing techniques that have been cultivated over the 30 years since the birth of the brand's first skeleton watch, "Mon Bijou."
