Will the latest film in the series surpass last year's box office success, which was the highest ever?

The Detective Conan movie series is traditionally released every spring. The latest installment, Detective Conan: Afterimage of the One-Eyed Man, is scheduled to premiere on April 18, 2025. Since the Detective Conan movie series has been released every year since 1997, with the exception of 2020, many people are probably planning to take the whole family to the cinema this year. The box office revenues of both the previous and previous-previous films exceeded 13 billion yen, demonstrating their success and showing just how beloved the series is.

The birth of "Detective Conan" dates back to 1994. It began as a serial in Shogakukan's magazine "Weekly Shonen Sunday," and then the TV anime began broadcasting in 1996. The following year, the theatrical version began to be released. It's amazing that the original manga has now been translated into 25 countries and regions, and the anime is broadcast in a whopping 40 countries.

A high school detective disguised as an elementary school student! A unique charm created by complex character settings

"Detective Conan" also shines with its unique character development. Kudo Shinichi, a high school detective with a love of Sherlock Holmes and a father who is a mystery writer and a mother who is a former actress, is transformed into the body of a first-grader by a mysterious organization. While hiding his true identity, he solves everyday cases as a different persona called "Edogawa Conan" and unravels the pasts of the mysterious organization and the characters.

The creator of this hugely popular manga is Gosho Aoyama. In his hometown of Hokuei Town, Tottori Prefecture, the Gosho Aoyama Hometown Museum has opened. In his hometown, he is truly a hero.

The brothers' expertise comes together! Gosho Aoyama's realistic depiction of the world of science and events

Incidentally, the depth of the Detective Conan works is due to the cooperation of his family. Aoyama Gosho is the second son of four brothers, with his older brother being a scientist, his younger brother an engineer, and his youngest brother a doctor. He apparently consults his younger brother, who is a doctor, about things like the estimated time of death, and his other brother for car-related matters. He also consults his older brother on scientific matters, and as this older brother is knowledgeable about anime, he sometimes gives him advice on things like who would be good voice actors for the characters. His father-in-law, a manga assistant, is also a police inspector. These factors are thought to be factors that give the works their realism and entertainment value.

In his elementary school graduation album, Aoyama Gosho wrote, "I want to be a manga artist specializing in private detective work." He later said he didn't remember this, but there's no doubt that he realized his dream at the time. He has many hobbies, including watching soccer and baseball, and he practiced kendo for many years during his school days. He has also publicly stated that he is a fan of Chiba Tetsuya, the author of "Ashita no Joe," and Adachi Mitsuru, the author of "Touch," so it's likely that Aoyama Gosho is a sports fan.

Make the G-SHOCK MT-G your companion! The charm of the functionally beautiful watch chosen by Gosho Aoyama

The expressions on both their faces are filled with joy and celebration.

In a photo of Gosho Aoyama at the 2010 Tour de France, he was wearing the G-SHOCK MTG-1500B-1A1JF. The MT-G series was launched in 1999, with the "MT" in its name coming from "Metal Twisted." Its composite exterior made of metal and resin attracted a lot of attention, and in 2019, marking the 20th anniversary of the series, a new shock-resistant structure was introduced.

This model also features a combination of analog and digital displays. It features a 1/100-second stopwatch function, with the small hand at 3 o'clock moving at 1/20-second intervals for the first second, then every second until the first minute, after which it becomes a 60-minute counter. Even when switching modes, the measured time is always displayed. This high level of functionality and sophisticated design are irresistible for gadget lovers.

Looking at the exterior, the metal parts are black IP coated, and the inverted LCD screen gives it a bold look. The logo and lettering on the bezel are also all black, making it a design that fits in with adult outfits.

The movement features radio wave correction, ensuring accurate timekeeping—an important feature for a popular manga artist constantly battling deadlines. It receives standard radio waves from around the world and achieves time correction independently, without relying on an internet connection. Gosho Aoyama must have felt reassured by this watch while watching the race in France.

In fact, it seems that Aoyama Gosho has already decided on the plot of the final episode of the series. Even if you're not a fan, you're very curious about the ending. Of course, we all hope the story continues forever. While we hope for a long-lasting serialization of Detective Conan, we also wonder if Conan will be able to return to being Kudo Shinichi in the end... We'll be watching with bated breath to find out how it ends.
