Introducing IWC's new watches for 2025!

2025.04.02

Here's a look at all the new IWC watches unveiled at Watches & Wonders Geneve 2025. Last year, the lineup consisted of the Portugieser, but this year, new variations have been added to the Ingenieur, and a special Pilot's Watch has also made an impressive appearance.

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35

IWC's New Watch for 2025 #1: Ingenieur Automatic 35

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35

The Ingenieur, which underwent a full model change in 2023, will be joined by a new model with a 35mm case diameter, the Ingenieur Automatic 35. The current Ingenieur's design concept is a return to the Ingenieur SL (Ref. 1832) designed by Gérald Genta in 1976, and its distinctive features can be seen not only in the overall silhouette, but also in the smooth lines connecting the case side and bracelet, and the screws on the bezel.

While the Ingenieur Automatic 40, released in 2023, has a case diameter of 40mm and a thickness of 10.7mm, the new Ingenieur Automatic 35 is more compact and thinner, with a case diameter of 35mm and a thickness of 9.44mm. In reducing the size, every part and detail has been redesigned to maintain the design codes and styling. Furthermore, the small, flat silhouette and further improvements from an ergonomic perspective promise a comfortable fit.

The watch is available in three variations: one in 18K red gold and two in stainless steel with a silver or black dial. All are equipped with the automatic movement Cal. 47110 and offer a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.

IWC's New Watch for 2025 #2: Ingenieur Automatic 42

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42, Ref. IW338903

The Ingenieur collection will be joined by a new model, the Ingenieur Automatic 42, featuring a new 42mm case made of black ceramic. Ceramics is one of IWC's specialties, and while it has been used in other collections and on the Ingenieur before the full model change, this is the first time it has been used on the current Ingenieur design.

Ceramics are an ideal material for wristwatches, particularly tool watches, as they are extremely hard and scratch-resistant, as well as lightweight and unaffected by temperature changes. IWC has focused on these characteristics of ceramics and has continued to research and incorporate it into its watches for nearly 40 years since introducing the world's first wristwatch with a zirconium oxide ceramic case in 1986.

This new model incorporates IWC's expertise, and while maintaining the Ingenieur design codes, the case ring, bezel, case back ring, crown, crown guard, and bracelet are all made of black zirconium oxide ceramic, resulting in a styling with a case diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 11.5mm.

Because the properties of ceramics and metals, including stainless steel, are significantly different, simply replacing a metal case with ceramic often does not work. In this model, an internal titanium ring is added to secure the bezel and case back ring to the case ring with screws, and is also used to hold the movement in place and ensure water resistance. The sapphire crystals on the crystal and case back are not held in place by a titanium ring, but are instead pressed directly onto the ceramic components. This structure ensures water resistance while maintaining the structure and distinctive proportions of the original stainless steel model.

IWC's New Watch for 2025 #3: Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41

IWC Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41, Ref. IW344903

The Ingenieur collection has announced the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41, which incorporates a perpetual calendar mechanism. As mentioned above, the current Ingenieur is a model based on the Ingenieur SL (Ref. 1832). Speaking of perpetual calendars at IWC, the iconic Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, released in 1985, features a perpetual calendar mechanism developed by Kurt Klaus, an engineer who has supported the lineage of IWC's mechanical watches. In other words, this model can be said to combine the works of two great men who have had a major impact on IWC.

The perpetual calendar mechanism developed by Kurt Klaus was revolutionary in that it could be operated using only the crown. The automatic movement, Cal. 82600, featured in this watch inherits this feature, allowing for simple adjustment of the leap year, month, day of the week, date, and moon phase displays. The calendar is controlled based on the number of days in each month, taking leap years into account, ensuring the moon phase display's high accuracy, with an error of just one day every 577.5 years. The automatic winding mechanism is the Pellaton automatic winding system developed by IWC's legendary engineer, Albert Pellaton. While improvements have been made to this mechanism, such as the use of ceramics in the parts that bear the most strain (the pawls that transmit the winding force), the basic structure remains true to Pellaton's design, making this watch a true combination of the work of three important figures in IWC.

The dial is also noteworthy. In the first step, the Ingenieur's distinctive grid pattern is applied, and then the subdials are attached to the dial base. After the dial is colored, the calendar display information is pad-printed onto the subdials, realizing the perpetual calendar's diverse and precise display. The linear light reflections of the grid pattern contrast with the softer light reflections of the sunray finish on the subdials.

IWC's New Watches for 2025 #4: The Ingenieur Automatic 40 in Red Gold

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35, Ref. IW324906

To coincide with the release of the 18K red gold model of the Ingenieur Automatic 35, an 18K red gold model will also be added to the Ingenieur Automatic 40. The case and bracelet are made of subdued yet elegant 18K red gold, and the black grid pattern dial completes the overall design.

While the silhouette and details will be similar to the stainless steel model released in 2023, everything from the case, case back ring, bezel, crown, crown guards, and bracelet links will be made of gold. The bracelet is a major element that determines the current Ingenieur design, so it must maintain the details while ensuring a range of movement and a comfortable fit. This is where IWC's highly acclaimed bracelet design and manufacturing techniques have been poured into.

It is equipped with the automatic movement Cal. 32111, which has a power reserve of approximately 120 hours, and you can see the movement in action through the case back.

IWC's New Watch for 2025 #5: The Ingenieur Automatic 40 with a Green Dial

IWC Ingenieur Automatic 35, Ref. IW324908

The newly added green dial model of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 is a limited edition of 1000 pieces worldwide, inspired by the watch worn by the protagonist played by Brad Pitt in the film "F1®," scheduled for release in the summer of 2025. The film "F1®" is a notable production being shot on an unprecedented scale, with actual F1 Grand Prix events as the backdrop and F1 driver Lewis Hamilton participating as a producer.

In the film, Brad Pitt plays the veteran racing driver Sonny Hayes, who wears an Ingenieur SL (Ref. 1832) with a customised dial in Sonny's trademark green. This special watch for filming was created through a collaboration between IWC, Brad Pitt and Cloister Watch Company, a design studio specialising in customising vintage watches.

This model is inspired by this special watch and features a green dial with gold-plated applied indexes, just like in the film. This model will be limited to 1000 pieces worldwide.

IWC's New Watch for 2025 #6: Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Digital Date/Month

IWC Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Digital Date/Month Ref. 388801

IWC has announced the Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Digital Date/Month, which combines a digital perpetual calendar mechanism with a chronograph mechanism and uses a case made of IWC's proprietary Ceratanium.

The digital calendar, a distinctive feature of this watch, was inspired by the time display of the Pallweber pocket watch from the 1880s. In this model, the month display at 3 o'clock and the date display at 9 o'clock on the dial are each realized by a gold-colored double disc. This mechanism is extremely complex and difficult to operate reliably; each night, the date disc must be moved, gradually storing energy, and then at the end of the month or year, that energy must be reliably released to advance each disc to its precise position. The automatic movement Cal. 89802 installed in this watch operates this mechanism reliably while also achieving the traditional IWC perpetual calendar operation, which requires only the crown.

Another feature of this watch is the use of materials suited to its sporty appearance. IWC's proprietary material, Ceratanium, is a titanium alloy that is given the properties of ceramic through high-temperature heat treatment. It combines the lightness of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic. This watch is finished in Ceratanium's distinctive matte black, creating a sporty design that matches the design of the Pilot's Watch collection.

IWC's New Watch for 2025 #7: Big Pilot's Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL

IWC Big Pilot's Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL, Ref. IW357701

IWC has announced the Big Pilot's Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL, a tourbillon model that can withstand shocks of over 1 g thanks to its SPRIN-g PROTECT system. The "XPL" in the model name refers to the advanced engineering department at IWC that developed this model. One of their research themes is shock protection for the movement, and the results of that research have been incorporated into this model.

This shock protection is achieved through IWC's patented SPRIN-g PROTECT system. This system uses a cantilever spring to cushion the movement and suspend it within the case. When an impact is applied to the case, the acceleration force acting on the movement is absorbed by the spring, absorbing and reducing much of the impact force that could cause damage, resulting in high shock protection. While this can place significant stress on the winding core, which connects the movement to the exterior, the unique crown coupling system disengages when an impact is applied, allowing the movement to move freely within the case and protect it from external forces.

The unique feature of this model is that the SPRIN-g PROTECT system has been adopted for a tourbillon-equipped model. To make this system compatible with the Cal. 82915 movement, which is equipped with a tourbillon, the spring shape has been redesigned, and the resulting model has been confirmed to be able to withstand impacts of over 1 g in a series of tests.

Three Pilot's Watch models were also announced to commemorate the partnership with the film "F1®." Each model is based on a sporty chronograph, typical of motorsports models, and features a design related to the fictional racing team "APXGP," to which the main character belongs in the film.

In the film "F1®," IWC appears as a sponsor of the APXGP and as the official team watch, and the brand logo appears on the racing cars, the drivers' racing suits and helmets, the team uniforms, etc. It is noteworthy that each model is designed based on this worldview.

The Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388309) features an 18K red gold case, a black lacquer dial, and a black ceramic bezel with a tachymeter. This model is worn by Joshua Piers, played by Damson Idris, and is notable for its combination of a gorgeous gold hue and a sporty design.

Both the "Pilot's Watch Chronograph "APXGP"" and "Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 "APGXGP"" are models designed for the APXGP team, and feature a black dial with various displays printed in white and gold, combined with gold-plated hour and minute hands and in-dial hands. Another feature is the APXGP team logo on the case back.
