2025.04.05

Bulgari, exhibiting at Watches & Wonders Geneva for the first time, unveiled a new watch that will blow away other watch brands. The Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, in particular, stands out as it once again breaks the record for the thinnest tourbillon in history.

Bvlgari 2025 New Release ① "Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon"

In 2025, Bvlgari set a new record for the 10th time with the new Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon. This model is the thinnest tourbillon watch in history, measuring just 40mm in diameter and 1.85mm thick. Considering that a 500 yen coin is roughly the same thickness (1.81mm), this model demonstrates just how extraordinary its thinness is. The overall design, in keeping with the Octo and previous Octo Finissimo models, emphasizes an octagonal silhouette and features a monochrome color scheme. Despite its extremely thin construction, the facets are removed, giving it a three-dimensional appearance.

Let's take a look back at Bvlgari's pursuit of ultra-thin watches. The challenge began in 2014 with the thinning of manual-wound tourbillons, and in 2016, they made great strides with the world's thinnest minute repeater, measuring 3.12mm. In 2017, they broke the 3mm mark with an automatic movement at 2.23mm, and in 2021, they achieved the thinnest perpetual calendar in history at 2.75mm. Then, in 2022, they set a milestone with the Octo Finissimo Ultra, measuring 1.80mm, well below 2mm.

In order to achieve its astonishing thinness, the Octo Finissimo Ultra used a unique display format in which the hour and minute hands were placed on separate dials. However, the newly announced Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon uses a more conventional display format, with the hour and minute hands placed coaxially at the 2 o'clock position. Achieving a coaxial display requires two gears stacked on a single axis, which would be an obstacle to achieving the ultimate in thinness, but this model has succeeded.

Bvlgari 2025 New Octo Finissimo

Like other Octo Finissimo Ultra models, the movement's main plate is made of hard tungsten carbide, ensuring durability.

To create an ultra-thin watch, it is essential to ensure the overall strength of the watch. This model uses titanium for the bezel, middle case, and lugs, while the main plate is made of tungsten carbide, a material also used in metal cutting tools, and is used as a strength component. The tourbillon is located at the 5 o'clock position on the main plate.

It is also worth noting that the single ruby on the outer edge of the tourbillon indicates the seconds along with the minute track surrounding it.

A single ruby on the outer periphery of the tourbillon carriage at 5 o'clock serves as the second hand, along with the minute track marked on the frame surrounding the tourbillon. There are not many tourbillons that allow you to read the seconds clearly, and it is clear that consideration has been given not only to aesthetics but also to practicality.

One notable difference from previous models is that the dial, tourbillon, and gear train at 7 o'clock are skeletonized, highlighting the thinness of this watch and the operation of the various gear trains, especially the tourbillon.

Serpenti means snake in Italian. The snake's process of shedding its skin and growing is likened to regeneration, and it has a history of being treated as a mystical being in both the West and the East. Furthermore, with their unique textures and various patterns, they have also been seen as a source of inspiration for creativity.

Since 1948, Bvlgari has offered jewelry and watches in its snake-inspired Serpenti collection. The newly announced Serpenti Eterna is a boldly transformed model that focuses on the mystical qualities of snakes and expresses their true essence. The Serpenti Eterna's silhouette and details do not feature specific motifs such as snake heads or eyes. However, its silhouette is distinctive in that it expresses the essence and dynamism of the snake.

This new model has an iconic and elegant style that is different from previous Serpenti models.

The lineup includes two models: an 18K pink gold model and an 18K white gold model. Both models feature a dial on the snake's forehead, tapering from there to wrap around the wrist. The snake's back is studded with diamonds of various sizes, reminiscent of the snake's scales and patterns.
