Ressence, a manufacturer of innovative watches with unique time display formats and case structures, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. To mark this milestone, the company has announced a new watch that is truly Ressence-esque.

Ressence 2025 New Model "Type 7"
Ressence has announced the new "Type 7" watch to coincide with its 15th anniversary, releasing two models: one limited edition and one regular model. Based in Belgium, Ressence offers models with dials that have been described as "looking like moving images showing the time." Each model features a unique display format in which the layout of the dial changes depending on the time, yet its outstanding legibility is a major feature.

Automatic (Cal. ROCS7). 37 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 36 hours. Ti case (diameter 41mm, thickness 14mm). Water resistant to 5 bar. Limited to 80 pieces worldwide. Price: 6,732,000 yen (tax included).

Automatic winding (Cal. ROCS7). 37 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 36 hours. Ti case (diameter 41mm, thickness 14mm). Water resistant to 5 bar. Price: 9,361,000 yen (tax included).
The newly announced Type 7 retains these characteristics while offering some refinements. The case is crafted from grade 5 titanium, measuring 41mm in diameter, and this is the first Ressence watch to feature a titanium bracelet. The overall silhouette features gently sloping lines from the case sides to the lugs and bracelet, marking a new departure for Ressence, whose many models feature round cases or domed silhouettes.

The entire dial rotates to display the minutes, the largest subdial displays the 12-hour time, the smallest subdial displays the seconds, and the last subdial displays the 24-hour GMT function, a first for Ressence.
These functions are realized by the newly developed automatic movement, Cal. ROCS7. The mechanism that transmits the movement's power to the dial is significantly different from that of a typical watch. In this work, the movement is surrounded by oil and essentially floats. Since it cannot exchange power with the outside world in this state, it is mechanically connected by the gravitational force generated by built-in micromagnets.

In addition to the display format, this watch also utilizes Ressence's proprietary technology to enhance legibility. In a typical watch, there is a layer of air between the dial and the crystal, and the difference in refractive index between the crystal and air causes the image to appear curved, reducing legibility. In contrast, the Type 7 fills the space between the dial and the crystal with oil, which has a refractive index close to that of glass. This makes the display on the dial appear as if it were projected onto the crystal, ensuring legibility even when viewing the watch from an angle.
Filling the watch with oil can cause the oil's properties to change with temperature. The Type 7 incorporates a bellows to automatically compensate for these changes. Additionally, a small window in the time display has an indicator that shows whether the watch is at the optimum operating temperature, allowing the user to know the condition of their beloved watch.
The models available now are the turquoise-colored "Type 7 XV," limited to 80 pieces worldwide as a commemorative model for Ressence's 15th anniversary, and the regular model, the night blue "Type 7 Night Blue."
