The classic-looking "Bambino" from Orient is a popular collection that offers an affordable price, with a domed crystal and bombe dial, creating a timeless look. Martin Green, an editor and writer for the US edition of WatchTime, argues that even if you own a proper dress watch, the Bambino is a must-have watch. Let's take a closer look at the appeal of the Bambino.

The 38.4mm model of the "Bambino" is full of classical charm.
Some watches have a mysterious allure that draws people in naturally. A prime example of this is the Orient Bambino. What particularly drew people in was the model with a smaller case diameter, down from 40.5mm to 38.4mm.

This already attractive model is even more appealing now that it's more compact, and the slimmer design really highlights the vintage feel of this watch.
A current product that embodies a classical aesthetic that is rare in modern times.
The Bambino embodies a classic, retro aesthetic that's hard to find in new modern watches. Its appeal is reminiscent of models from the 1950s and 60s, featuring a gently curved dial beneath a domed mineral crystal. The slender bezel and short lugs give the watch a more refined look, while the oversized crown further accentuates its character.

Automatic movement (Cal. F6724). 22 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 40 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 38.4 mm, thickness 12.5 mm). Water resistant to 3 ATM. Official online store only. 42,900 yen (tax included).
Wide variety of dial colors
Orient offers a number of "Bambino" models using this 38.4mm case. One is a model that combines a gold-colored case with a white dial, while the remaining three are stainless steel cases with black, white, and cream dials, respectively. (Editor's note: These color models are only available in Japan through the official Orient online store. Generally available models with bar indexes include models with blue and green dials. There are also models with Roman numeral indexes.)
The version reviewed here is the cream dial version, and the blue hands stand out against the pure cream dial, adding a touch of vintage flair.
Equipped with an in-house movement
This slim yet powerful watch is equipped with the company's own automatic movement, Cal. F6724. You can see it through the see-through case back, and its straightforward appearance is in perfect harmony with the sophisticated dial design.

The power reserve is approximately 40 hours, which I personally find sufficient, and the vibration frequency is 21,600 vph. It also features a stop-seconds function, allowing for precise time setting down to the second. The date display uses a quick-change system. The Bambino is a model that embodies the lineage of good old classics, and its 30m water resistance is proof of this. This water resistance is proudly displayed on the dial in an elegant font, just like vintage watches of the past.
Comfortable to wear, effortlessly elegant
The Orient Bambino exudes understated confidence. Its understated appearance puts it in line with many iconic dress watches, all while remaining incredibly accessible. Even if you already own a serious dress watch, the Bambino is a must-have. It sits comfortably on the wrist and exudes effortless elegance—a feeling that's hard to find these days.
The strap needs improvement. Is it okay to bring your own?
While the watch has a sophisticated appearance, the only thing I found disappointing was the texture of the strap. Although the material itself is genuine leather, the alligator print looks a little artificial. Personally, I would prefer a slightly grained calfskin strap, which would really highlight the charm of this watch. However, all four models, including this one, are designed to be easily interchangeable, so you can still have fun finding the perfect combination for you.
