2019.11.22

This popular series features Chronos Japan's elite editors getting their hands on the hottest new models, using them to their heart's content, and reviewing them. The test watch featured this time is the Octo Roma from the most prestigious brand, Bulgari. Its 58 faceted case design and deep brown dial are typical of Bulgari. This time, we focused primarily on the texture and legibility of the lacquered dial.

Bvlgari "Octo Roma"

"Editor's Random Impressions" is a series where we use watches provided by brands and offer our own free-spirited commentary, gaining recognition among industry insiders. However, just like the last Panerai, this time, we have a big name! The Octo Roma, announced by Bulgari in Geneva in 2017. While there was a previous model with the same name, Bulgari retained the octagonal shape of this model while renewing the overall case proportions. This is the impression model. The complex facets synonymous with the Octo have been reduced from 110 to 58, and of course, the lugs and bezel have also been completely redesigned. As the designer stated, "I wanted to create a watch with a completely different image while maintaining the existing shape," the watch has been transformed from its previous somewhat sporty impression to a more dressy model.

The deep brown hue of the sunray finish is captivating

Octo Roma

First look at the Bvlgari showroom. It fits perfectly with the elegant atmosphere of the room. The brown dial with sunray decoration creates a beautiful gradation depending on the light. This is unique to Bvlgari, who excels in creating lacquer dials.

My first impression was, "Hmm, it's a classic dress watch, even though it has three hands," but my only worry was whether I would be able to wear this watch well, as I've had absolutely no connection to dressy looks lately.
The sunray-decorated dial is a lacquered brown color. Bulgari specializes in black and brown lacquered dials, and this dial is also beautiful, with a deep color that could be called burgundy, creating a gradation depending on the light. The strap is also brown to match the dial. It's by no means a dull color, but it doesn't make a strong statement either. It exudes elegance and sophistication.
