SevenFriday, a Swiss watch brand known for its industrial and futuristic designs, has gained popularity for its unique style. While many of its models are overflowing with "playfulness," the PE1/01 M stands out for its refined and restrained "quiet" design. In this article, Martin Green, a contributor to the US edition of WatchTime, delves deeper into its appeal.

The coexistence of "playfulness" and "tranquility"
One of the charms of SevenFriday's watches is that each model has a playful touch. Each model has its own appeal, and you can't help but smile every time you check the time.

Automatic winding (TMI Cal. NH35). 24 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 41 hours. Stainless steel case (44mm x 44.5mm, 12.55mm thick). Water resistant to 5 bar. Price: 242,000 yen (tax included).
Some models are instantly recognizable, like the illustrations on the dial, while others are more sophisticatedly expressed through the choice of materials, coloring, time display method, etc. The "PE1/01 M" introduced here is a chic watch with a relatively understated design, even among the brand's products.
Details hidden in monochrome
The watch's "quiet" design can be seen in its almost monochrome color scheme. While it may appear simple at first glance, a closer look reveals that the dial is packed with many details. The black plate that covers most of the dial features an embossed SevenFriday logo, along with embossed lines that subtly create depth.

A rhodium-plated plate sits in the center, with a hairline finish that accentuates its individuality.
Playful hands and displays
The 9 o'clock marker not only indicates the wandering hour disc, but also serves as the minute hand, which is designed to resemble the Eiffel Tower. The base of the minute hand is shaped like a classic car steering wheel, and the seconds hand is mounted above it.
The date display is discreetly placed at 4 o'clock on the dial, reminiscent of the entrance to Tutankhamun's tomb. Although the date disc is positioned deep and prone to shadows, it adds depth and character to the watch.
Case design that takes wearing comfort into consideration

The case is typical of SevenFriday, with a nearly square shape, measuring 44mm long and 44.5mm wide. While the numbers alone may give the impression of being large, the lack of lugs and rounded corners and the bottom of the case mean that it feels surprisingly comfortable to wear.
Selection of a Japanese movement and ingenuity in the case back

The movement is the Japanese-made automatic TMI Cal. NH35. It is robust and reliable, but I personally find the power reserve of approximately 41 hours a little lacking. Still, it is a good choice for this model.
The brand understands that this movement is not visually appealing, so the case back is not see-through. Instead, an NFC chip is built into the case back, allowing owners to register and authenticate their watches via the SevenFriday app (available on iOS and Android). The app also allows users to centrally manage other SevenFriday watches they own.
High-quality finish and bracelet
The finish is of high quality, with the SevenFriday logo engraved on the crown and side of the case. While a leather strap is also available, we recommend the mesh bracelet, which is exceptionally well-made. The bracelet is extremely comfortable, features an adjustable clasp, and a fine mesh. This bracelet further accentuates the PE1/01 M's "quiet" design.
A model that expands the SevenFriday worldview
One question arises: Is this model too "serious" for SevenFriday? However, there's no need to worry. The brand has beautifully embodied the concept of the PE1/01 M, successfully expanding the SevenFriday worldview. I hope they continue to cultivate this kind of "quiet" design.
