From voice actors to actors - a wide range of talents as performers
Yamadera Koichi, who is currently active as an actor in the morning drama series "Anpan," plays the role of "Zama Sensei," modeled after Yanase Takashi's mentor. He treated his students like gentlemen and preached that "it's okay to be free," and he had a major influence on Yanase Takashi's way of life.
Yamadera plays Zama sensei, who educates his students to think about the lyrics of "Anpanman March," "Why were we born and what should we do with our lives?", and he excels with his sometimes comical, sometimes gentle, and carefree charm. Yamadera himself fell in love with the character when he read the script, but also felt pressured that "if I couldn't play him in an entertaining way, it would all be ruined." However, he played the role brilliantly alongside Nanako Matsushima and Takumi Kitamura, and made a strong presence as a comedic relief after the serious acting.
While many live-action adaptations of anime have been produced in recent years, many fans have expressed their desire for the original worldview not to be destroyed. Despite this, Yamadera Koichi continues to reassure fans by providing voiceovers for both the original anime and live-action versions. Notable examples include Genie from Disney's "Aladdin" and Stitch from "Lilo & Stitch," whose live-action dubs perfectly replicate the image of the anime. He has also voiced many other important Disney characters, including Donald Duck and the Beast from "Beauty and the Beast." Meanwhile, in "Anpanman," he demonstrates his incredible acting ability by simultaneously playing multiple roles, including Uncle Jam, Meiken Cheese, Hippo, Kamameshi-don, and Kabirunrun.
A voice beyond seven colors that can play 50 different roles
Yamadera says that an essential tool for his work is a six-color ballpoint pen, which he uses to write notes on the script for each role. He is often called "the man with seven voices," but his talent goes far beyond that. He plays 12 different roles in "Soreike! Anpanman," 16 in "Yatterman," and a whopping 50 in "Higanjima X."
Many people aspired to become voice actors because of Yamadera Koichi, and Hanae Natsuki, who played the main character Tanjiro in "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba," reportedly sent a voice sample to the agency hoping to join. The reason he has such great support from fellow voice actors is that, in addition to his wide range of acting ability, he has also appeared as an actor on stage and in TV dramas, and has an extremely wide range of expression, including narration and radio personality work.
As a child, she was a shy girl, but after realizing that she could produce a wider variety of sounds than most people, she began to perform animal sounds and impersonations. However, she says that at the time she had no idea about voice acting as a profession.
After entering university, he joined the Rakugo Study Group. According to Yamadera himself, this Rakugo Study Group was the starting point for everything, and he said, "If I hadn't joined, I don't think I would have become a voice actor." His ability to freely change the tone of his voice was a valuable asset in performing Rakugo. These various experiences and talents have led to the voice acting skills that have earned him the trust of Hollywood actors such as Will Smith.
Discovered on social media! The unexpected watch worn by Koichi Yamadera
An interesting photo was posted on Yamadera Koichi's X (formerly Twitter).
It'll be a big hit this summer!

What's noteworthy is the watch worn with this T-shirt, which is likely a Citizen xC Eco-Drive radio-controlled watch, Ref. XCD38-8471.

Solar-powered Eco-Drive. Stainless steel case. Discontinued.
Since its launch in 1996, "xC" (cross sea) has been the number one selling watch brand in Japan in the mid-price ladies' watch market. It boasts a wide range of excellent functionality, including a light-powered Eco-Drive system that eliminates the need for regular battery changes, a radio-controlled watch function that eliminates the need for time adjustment, Citizen's proprietary surface hardening technology Duratect, and complete water resistance for everyday use.
If you look at the lineup of the women's brand xC in 2025, you'll see a lot of small-diameter, cutely decorated models.
However, when xC was founded in 1996, things were different. It started out as a brand with simple and chic designs, free from excessive decoration. Then in 1998, the sizes increased and unisex models were introduced. It was a brand that looked natural on men.
The xC Conspire Series Eco-Drive radio-controlled watch worn by Koichi Yamadera was probably released around 2003, and this model is also likely a unisex model.
This model is not overly flashy, but rather has a striking classic appearance, giving it a timeless universality. It's like Yamadera Koichi is able to freely play a variety of roles, yet never be confined to one color. This quiet persuasiveness seems to be overlapping with this watch.
Expectations are high for the new expressions that this voice acting legend will show in the future.
