The King of V-Cinema, but that's not all: Riki Takeuchi
Riki Takeuchi is a celebrated actor with a charismatic presence. Since his film debut in 1986, he has been active for nearly 40 years, delivering numerous hit films. His immense popularity means that he appeared in 27 V-cinema films in a single year, and in some years his annual income exceeded 200 million yen.
With his pompadour hairstyle, black suit, and piercing gaze, what comes to mind for many when they hear the name Takeuchi Riki is the shadowy figure in the financial world who speaks boldly in a Kansai dialect. In the "Minami no Teiou" series, he plays Manda Ginjiro, a man who solves financial troubles unfolding in the streets of Minami, Osaka, sometimes with compassion and sometimes with ruthlessness, captivating many viewers. His overwhelming presence truly makes him worthy of the title "King of V-Cinema."
However, Takeuchi Riki's appeal is not limited to his acting. He has a career as a singer and is also a skilled film producer, demonstrating his diverse talents in the entertainment industry. In recent years, he has also been actively posting on social media. Even now, at over 60 years old, he continues to update himself with the times, and this flexibility is what truly defines him.
From a banker to the king of V-cinema
Takeuchi Riki's life has been full of ups and downs. He has had a pompadour hairstyle since high school, and there is an anecdote about him continuing to wear a pompadour while working as a banker, ignoring the company's culture. However, his sales performance was outstanding, with the number of fixed-term deposit contracts being number one in the country. In a later interview, he said, "It's a world where results are everything. Even if you have a pompadour, no one will complain if you produce results. This isn't just limited to banks, is it?" He left the bank after two years, but it was on good terms and he was given 17 farewell parties, so he must have been very popular.
After leaving the bank, he moved to Tokyo with the help of a senior from high school, and was scouted by an entertainment agency while working part-time as a waiter. At the time, his handsome looks led him to play roles as heirs of wealthy families and good-looking young men, but he preferred outlaw roles that would allow him to show his true self, and he settled down as a V-cinema actor. The bill counting skills he acquired during his time as a banker are still known as Takeuchi Riki's special skill, and it is interesting to note that they are used in various scenes in "Minami no Teiou."
"Doing things differently from other people is my personality. Normally, when it comes to living life, you take the middle route, you play it safe. But I don't like that. I want to take the edge off even though I might fall off (laughs)," says Takeuchi Riki, and many fans admire his manly demeanor.
Continuing to evolve with the times
"I still go to clubs with people in their 20s," says Takeuchi Riki, who has a broad mind that moves with the times and is open to new things. He believes that being held back by past glories and pretending to be pretentious is not beneficial, and he has the inner strength to keep updating himself.
He opened his official YouTube channel in 2022. Since then, he has been posting videos mainly about his daily work and behind-the-scenes shots. He also has TikTok and Instagram accounts, and his proactive dissemination of information to a wide range of generations makes him a true Reiwa era talent. Although he has an intimidating presence, his consideration for people he meets for the first time and for staff members makes him almost lovable.
By the way, in his first YouTube video, he can be seen wearing a Hublot Aero Bang, so we can assume that Hublot is Takeuchi Riki's favorite brand.
Wearing a luxury model with a diamond bezel
As of July 2025, the Takeuchi Riki Channel has 59,100 subscribers. This video, posted on October 2, 2022, shows a champagne party held in the VIP room of Fukuoka Dome.
During a champagne party in Fukuoka, Takeuchi Riki was presented with a cheering banner by a fan who adores him. Takeuchi Riki was so moved by the high quality of the banner that he hugged the fan with such joy that he even performed a light wrestling move. After that, he went into a happy mood and sang along with the fans. He showed his playful side by interacting with the fans in a friendly manner.
At the time, Riki Takeuchi was wearing the Big Bang Steel Diamond Ref. 301.SX.1170.RX.1104. It is equipped with the automatic chronograph caliber HUB4100 and has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. It is a luxurious model with a total of approximately 1.7 carats of diamonds paved into the bezel.
A watch brings out the individuality of the wearer. In that respect, Takeuchi Riki's individuality is amplified many times over by this Hublot. The supreme brilliance of the diamonds elevates his presence to a unique one, creating an air of dignity befitting the "Emperor of V-Cinema."
The innovative spirit of the Hublot brand is a perfect reflection of Takeuchi Riki's way of life.
