A professional watch that embodies the ultimate in watchmaking performance.
If the essence of a wristwatch is to tell the time, then legibility is one of the most important factors in determining its quality. It's especially desirable to spend as little time as possible looking down at your wrist, especially on the battlefield, where a moment of carelessness can be fatal, or while piloting a high-speed aircraft. Furthermore, when mountain climbing, polar exploration, or underwater, lack of oxygen can cause your mind to become hazy. In extreme situations, being able to check the time as quickly and easily as possible is crucial.
These situations are not commonplace for most people today, but the field watches, pilot watches, and diver watches favored by professionals and honed to perfection offer sufficient legibility for everyday use.
This time, we will introduce watches with excellent legibility that have such roots. These models, which have been designed to simplify and maximize watch performance, are easy to wear in a wide range of situations and will also be a great companion for watch enthusiasts with advanced presbyopia.
Panerai "Luminor Marina" Ref. PAM03312

The Luminor Marina features a large dial with indexes that combine Arabic numerals and bars to ensure visibility underwater. The sandwich structure allows the indexes to glow brightly in the dark. Automatic movement (Cal. P. 980). 23 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 72 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 44 mm, thickness 14.6 mm). Water resistant to 50 bar. 1,320,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Officine Panerai Tel. 0120-18-7110
Panerai led the boom in "big, thick" watches. However, even though the trend is now shifting back to smaller diameter cases, their popularity remains strong. Perhaps this is because their size is not a passing fad, but rather has a legitimate historical significance, having supported the Italian Navy's divers in the darkest of seas.
The Luminor Marina, with its 44mm cushion-shaped case, is a model that allows you to fully experience the Panerai style. The dial, which combines large Arabic numerals and bar-type indexes, is coated with luminous paint thanks to its sandwich structure, which glows brightly in the dark. The crown protector attached to the side of the case is a patented mechanism unique to Panerai that presses the crown with a lever to ensure water resistance.
The movement is the automatic Cal.P.980, boasting a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The see-through case back allows you to enjoy the tool-like finish, such as the hairline-based rotor and bridge.
Omega Railmaster Ref. 235.10.38.20.06.001

Omega's anti-magnetic watch, the Railmaster, was redesigned in 2025. The simple dial, reminiscent of the original model, offers excellent legibility. Automatic movement (Cal. 8806). 35 jewels. 25,200 vph. Power reserve of approximately 55 hours. Stainless steel case (38mm diameter, 12.7mm thick). Water resistant to 15 bar. Price: 847,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Omega Tel. 0570-000087
The Railmaster is an Omega watch with excellent magnetic resistance that was launched in 1957, just like the Seamaster and Speedmaster. Targeted at railway workers who need to know the exact time despite being constantly exposed to magnetism, the Railmaster has a stoic design that is truly suitable for professional use.
The latest model, released in 2025, continues the simple dial design of the original model, combining Arabic numerals and wedge-shaped indices. The indices are not typeset but coated with luminous paint, so they will not fall off even if subjected to a strong impact. The gray gradation adds a subtle touch of individuality.
The twisted lugs and the case, which combines hairline and polished finishes, are designs common to the Seamaster Aqua Terra. The case back allows you to enjoy the high-spec automatic movement, Cal. 8806, which has been certified as a Master Chronometer.
IWC Big Pilot's Watch 43, Ref. IW329306

The Big Pilot's Watch 43 features a vibrant green dial and a 43mm case. Despite being a Big Pilot's Watch, it's also perfect for everyday use. Automatic (Cal. 82100). 22 jewels. 28,800 vph. In 2021, IWC introduced a 43mm case model, downsizing the Big Pilot's Watch from its previous 46mm diameter. Based on a model originally created as a pilot's watch for the German Air Force in the 1940s, the Big Pilot's Watch features Arabic numerals and rose-shaped hour and minute hands for instant legibility in extreme conditions. A triangle at 12 o'clock allows the user to easily identify the watch's orientation.
The 43mm case is a big pilot's watch, yet still suitable for everyday use. Combined with its 10 bar water resistance, it will be useful in a wide range of situations. The conical crown is large enough for pilots to operate it even while wearing gloves. It's a detail that conveys the sense of urgency honed on the battlefield.
Another appealing feature of the current Big Pilot's Watch is the wide variety of options available. In addition to the classic black dial, vibrant blue and green dials are also available. A wide range of straps are available, including rubber straps, stainless steel bracelets, and leather straps. The straps are equipped with the EasyX-CHANGE® system, which allows them to be removed from the case with a single touch.
Zenith "Pilot Automatic Blue" Ref. 03.4000.3620/51.I003

The Zenith Pilot Automatic Blue features the word "PILOT" shining at the 6 o'clock position. Its simple yet solid design exudes the toughness of a pilot's watch. Automatic movement (Cal. The horizontally patterned dial features Arabic numerals filled with white luminous paint, and a date display at 6 o'clock. The 40mm diameter stainless steel case has a hairline finish, giving it a solid impression. The flat, wide bezel exudes the strength of a sports watch.
The watch comes with a Cordura-effect rubber strap that matches the dial color, and also includes a brown calf leather strap, allowing you to enjoy changing it to suit your preferences and the occasion.
The movement is the Caliber El Primero 3620, boasting a high beat of 10 vibrations per second. Although the chronograph mechanism has been abolished, its resistance to disturbances caused by high vibrations means it can be used safely even in active situations.
Tudor "Ranger" Ref. M79950-0001

The Ranger has an appealing tool watch look. Despite its simple appearance, it boasts excellent functionality thanks to its "T-fit" clasp and manufacture movement. Automatic (Cal. MT5402). 27 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel case (39mm diameter, 12mm thick). Water resistant to 100m. 507,100 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Rolex Japan / Tudor Tel. 0120-929-570
The Ranger was inspired by the Oyster Prince, a watch provided by Tudor for the British Royal Navy's North Greenland Expedition in the 1950s. Its minimalist design, able to adapt to harsh environments, embodies the essential qualities of a tool watch.
The matte black dial features Arabic numerals and bar indexes, providing excellent visibility with high contrast. The slightly yellowish luminous paint and domed sapphire crystal add a touch of vintage charm.
The stainless steel case is 39mm in diameter. The entire case, including the lugs and bezel, is finished with a brushed finish. It is paired with a three-link stainless steel bracelet and features a double-locking clasp with the company's proprietary "T-fit" fine-tuning mechanism, ensuring a comfortable fit.
The movement is the Cal. MT5402, manufactured by the subsidiary Kenissi, and is highly practical, boasting high accuracy as a COSC-certified chronometer and excellent magnetic resistance thanks to the silicon balance spring.
