Oris' ProPilot X Calibre 400 doesn't say much at first glance. Beneath its understated exterior lies a sophisticated structure and functionality suited to everyday use. It's a watch that appears quiet, yet the more you hold it in your hand, the more you sense its depth.

The hidden charm of a stripped-down design

At first glance, the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 appears to be a simple three-hand watch with a date display. Its understated design lacks any special features like a rotating bezel or ceramic inserts. However, its quiet presence reveals a high level of perfection, achieved through visual ingenuity and the selection of materials.

Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Ref. 01 400 7778 7158-07 7 20 01TLC
Automatic winding (Oris Cal. 400). 21 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 120 hours. Ti case (diameter 39mm, thickness 11.8mm). Water resistant to 10 bar. Price: 814,000 yen (tax included).

The unique design, with its grained dial, diagonally ribbed bezel, large crown and angular bracelet, is also linked to practical aspects such as visibility and operability. The case and bracelet are made of titanium, which is lightweight and features a warm, dark tone.

Evolution from previous models and the tradition of pilot's watches

The ProPilot X name has been seen on previous models, but the previous models were designed with a focus on technology, such as a skeleton structure and a power reserve of approximately 10 days. On the other hand, this model deliberately omits such features and is redesigned as a solid watch that is perfect for everyday use.

The watch also features many design elements that carry on the tradition of pilot watches that Oris has been developing since the 1910s, such as a matte finish that reduces light reflection, thick, easy-to-read hands, and luminous displays that ensure visibility at night.

A titanium bracelet that is both comfortable to wear and easy to operate

The titanium bracelet features a linear design and an easy-to-operate lift clasp.

The screw-down crown is easy to operate, and Oris's unique lift clasp can be opened and closed easily with your fingertips. The links are secured with screw pins, and the bracelet can be removed and adjusted by operating it from one side.

The crown is adorned with the Oris logo.

The case measures 39mm in diameter and 11.8mm thick. The lightweight titanium construction minimizes strain on the wearer, even when worn for extended periods. The actual weight, after adjusting the bracelet, is just 93g (measured value), making it extremely lightweight.

The power of the in-house movement Cal. 400

The in-house movement, Cal. 400, boasts a long power reserve of approximately five days.

The Caliber 400 boasts 30 anti-magnetic parts, a twin barrel ensures a power reserve of approximately five days, and a 10-year service interval. The warranty period can also be extended by registering your watch on the official MyOris website.

Previously reported issues with the minute hand "jumping" have already been resolved by revising the movement design. While the rate-measuring device showed good accuracy, measuring around +5 seconds per day, the accuracy could fluctuate between 10 and 15 seconds per day depending on usage. In environments where the automatic rotor is not functioning properly, it is recommended to wind the watch by hand periodically.

A watch that supports your daily life with discoveries

Let's try wearing the ProPilot X Caliber 400. The bright salmon-colored dial really stands out.

At first glance, the ProPilot X Caliber 400 appears modest, but in reality it is a highly refined watch in terms of materials, design, and mechanism. Although it has some small quirks, these are all part of its charm, and it is a watch that you will discover as you use it every day.
