What is Omega's Seamaster?

Omega traces its roots back to a workshop opened in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by watchmaker Louis Brandt in 1848. Now a globally respected brand known for its high-quality, practical luxury timepieces, the company has led the way through many turbulent periods, from the evolution of pocket watches to wristwatches, the integration of electronics, and the return to mechanical timepieces. The current collections, including the Constellation, Seamaster, Speedmaster, and De Ville, each play an important role in the history of timepieces. Among these, the Seamaster was developed early on and established the outstanding practicality common to all subsequent Omega watches.

The Seamaster was born in 1948. Launched to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the company's founding, it was a simple waterproof three-hand watch that adapted the practicality cultivated through the manufacture of military watches for civilian use. Later, in 1957, the Seamaster 300 was released as a professional diver's watch. Various derivative collections have been spawned, and the Seamaster has continued through the ages, alongside Omega's relentless pursuit of water resistance.

The current Seamaster collection is categorized into the Seamaster Aqua Terra, Seamaster Diver 300M, Seamaster Planet Ocean, Heritage models, and the Seamaster Regatta. We would like to introduce each of these models along with their representative models.

Explaining the different types of Omega Seamaster watches

The Seamaster is characterized by its design that is closely related to the sea and its excellent water resistance. Let's take a look at each of the five lines that make up the collection.

1. Seamaster Aqua Terra

The Seamaster Aqua Terra is characterized by its simplicity, lacking a rotating bezel. Its design makes it popular as a business watch and a daily watch for both work and play. While not a diver's watch, it is water resistant to 150m, making it suitable for light work with water or in bad weather.

Another feature is the wide variety of options available. There are many combinations of case size, case material, dial color, and strap type, so you're sure to find one you like, whether it's a world time or small second model, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Shade with its vibrant colored dial, or the ultra-lightweight hand-wound model, the Seamaster Aqua Terra "Ultra Light." It's also a good idea to buy different sizes as a pair of watches.

The 28mm ladies' models are powered by quartz movements, while larger sizes use automatic mechanical movements such as the Cal. 8700, 8800, or 8900 series. Models equipped with mechanical movements are Master Chronometer certified by METAS.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra is a classic three-hand model. The blue dial features the "Teak Concept" stripes, reminiscent of the deck of a yacht. Automatic movement (Cal. 8900). 39 jewels. 25,200 vph. Power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 41mm, thickness 13.2mm). Water resistant to 150m. Price: 1,001,000 yen (tax included).

② "Seamaster Diver 300M"

The Seamaster Diver 300M, which debuted in 1993, is a diver's watch that, as its name suggests, is water resistant to 300m. While it has undergone several model changes up to the present day, the basic design remains unchanged from the original model, including the case lines that create a sleek crown guard, the unidirectional rotating bezel with facets on the outer periphery, the helium escape valve at 10 o'clock, and the skeletonized hands.

The current model is based on a style with a ceramic dial and bezel insert, and a date display at 6 o'clock, but the lineup has expanded to include a classic non-date model with an aluminum bezel insert, and a solid model with a stainless steel dial. For users who prefer a sportier, more multi-functional model, the chronograph model is also recommended.

The Seamaster is also known for its role as the Bond watch in the "007" film series. The Aqua Terra, Planet Ocean, and Seamaster 300 have all been popular with James Bond, but the Seamaster Diver 300M, the same watch that appeared in "No Time to Die," is currently on sale as a regular model.

Our recommendation for the Seamaster Diver 300M is the no-date model, released as a new model in 2025. The orange second hand and indices add a casual touch. Automatic (Cal. 8806). 35 jewels. 25,200 vph. Power reserve: approximately 55 hours. Stainless steel case (42mm diameter, 13.8mm thick). Water resistant to 300m. 1,034,000 yen (tax included).

3. Seamaster Planet Ocean

The Seamaster Planet Ocean is a full-fledged diver's watch with a highly legible dial that combines Arabic numerals and bar-type indexes with broad arrow-shaped hour and minute hands, a thick case with no crown guard, a helium escape valve at 10 o'clock, and water resistance to 600m. While it is designed for professional saturation diving, its appealing design makes it suitable for everyday use.

In addition to the simple three-hand model, the lineup includes models with a variety of functions, such as GMT models, chronograph models, world time models featuring a three-dimensional world map, and the "Ultra Deep" model, which is water-resistant to an astonishing 6000 meters thanks to its high level of airtightness that eliminates the need for a helium escape valve. There are also luxurious variations, such as models with stone-set bezels and models made of gold.

Although highly water-resistant, most models feature a see-through case back, allowing you to view the highly accurate automatic mechanical movement that has been certified as a Master Chronometer.

Ti case (diameter 45.5mm, thickness 18.12mm). 6000m water resistance. Price: 2,156,000 yen (tax included).

④Heritage model

The Heritage model lineup features iconic timepieces inspired by masterpieces of the past. The most notable example is the Seamaster 300, which was born in 1957 and has been reissued with a modern twist. The classic dial, featuring a no-date dial and an aluminum bezel insert, is combined with an edgy, clean case, making it a design that can be used both on and off the job.

The heritage model also includes the antimagnetic watch "Railmaster," which debuted in 1957. The current Railmaster, which was renewed in 2025, is available in two models: a center second model with a gray gradient dial and a small second model with a brown gradient dial.

Other models include the Seamaster Ploprof, which has a strong following among fans due to its unique design, and a dressy three-hand model that was created with the watch's role as the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games in mind.

5. Seamaster Regatta

The Seamaster Regatta is a sailing watch equipped with the functions required for yacht racing. Currently, there is only one model in the current lineup, commemorating the 37th America's Cup. It is decorated in the red and blue colors that symbolize the tournament, and the tournament emblem is engraved on the case back.

The case, bezel, indexes, and hands are based on the design of the Seamaster Diver 300M. The exterior is made of grade 5 titanium, which is not only lightweight but also corrosion-resistant to seawater.

The dial combines a large LCD display with analogue displays, and the LCD and push buttons allow access to the moon phase display, chronograph, sailing logbook, thermometer, accelerometer, alarm and regatta race functions.

The strap is equipped with a quick-change system, allowing it to be easily removed from the case by operating the lever on the back. Another attractive feature is that it comes with a special box as a commemorative model for the 37th America's Cup.
