The biggest topic for Grand Seiko in 2025 is the announcement of the "Evolution 9 Collection Spring Drive UFA," a model equipped with the ultra-high precision Spring Drive movement Cal. 9RB2, which has an annual accuracy of ±20 seconds. "UFA" stands for Ultra Fine Accuracy, and is a reference to the "VFA (Very Fine Adjusted)" name given to a high-precision model released in 1969.
Cal. 9RB2 is equipped with a Spring Drive control IC with added temperature compensation and a pre-aged, selected quartz movement, and the addition of a regulator switch improves the accuracy of the entire system while making it easy to maintain, achieving an extremely high level of perfection. Furthermore, the movement is given a "frost finish" inspired by the Northern Alps, with bowl-shaped chamfers and mirror finishes in various places, making it highly aesthetically pleasing.
The Ref. SLGB001 is a limited edition model with a platinum case that incorporates the scenery of the Kirigamine Plateau in Suwa, located east of Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo, the company responsible for Spring Drive. The Kirigamine Plateau is known for its wide expanse of frost-covered forests, where coniferous trees are covered in a thin layer of ice. The dial of this model expresses this frost-covered forest through embossing and a light blue coloring. The brilliance of the platinum material and the frost-covered forest motif combine to create a finish that evokes the transparency and harsh cold of winter.

The Ref. SLGB005 is also a model equipped with the Cal. 9RB2, and is themed around the frost-covered forests of the Kirigamine Plateau. Like the regular Ref. SLGB003 model, this model features a bright titanium case and bracelet. The special design of this model is characterized by a delicate gradation of violet, depicting the changing dawn of the Kirigamine Plateau. The gradation color is placed on the embossed dial, creating a finish with a sense of depth and dimension.
"Evolution 9 Collection" Ref. SLGH027

Automatic (Cal. 9SA5). 47 jewels. 36,000 vph. Power reserve approximately 80 hours. Everbrilliant steel case (40mm diameter, 11.7mm thick). Water resistant to 10 bar. Limited to 1200 pieces worldwide (700 in Japan). Price: 1,463,000 yen (tax included).
The Ref. SLGH027 is a limited edition model whose dial design incorporates Mount Iwate as seen from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, the studio responsible for the production of Grand Seiko mechanical models. Mount Iwate is known as one of the most aggressively active mountains in Japan, even among the many active volcanoes it boasts. The mountain's rugged shape and the traces of lava flows can be seen on its northern slopes.
This limited edition model incorporates the expression of the mountainside, evoking a sense of timelessness, and a tribute to the energy of nature into its design. The dial features a newly developed radial pattern inspired by the ridges of Mt. Iwate seen from a bird's-eye view. The clear blue coloring, reminiscent of the still air and water that envelops Mt. Iwate, brings out the dynamic ridgeline in a vivid, clear finish.
The case and bracelet are made of "Ever Brilliant Steel," which boasts the world's highest level of corrosion resistance among stainless steels, and the movement is Cal. 9SA5, which has a high beat of 36,000 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of approximately 80 hours.
"Evolution 9 Collection Tentagraph" Ref.SLGC006

Automatic winding (Cal. 9SC5). 36,000 vph. Power reserve approximately 72 hours. Bright titanium (diameter 43.2 mm, thickness 15.4 mm). Water resistant to 10 bar. Limited to 300 pieces worldwide (200 in Japan). 3,025,000 yen (tax included).
The Ref. SLGC006 is also a limited edition model with a Mount Iwate motif. It is based on the mechanical chronograph model "Tentagraph." The dial features a pattern inspired by the distinctive ridgelines and rugged terrain of Mount Iwate.
This model features a copper-pink dial and rose gold indices, bezel, pushers, and crown, depicting Mount Iwate shining in the morning sunlight. The small seconds at 3 o'clock is orange, and the 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock and the 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock are burgundy, with the colors coded by function.
The overall design incorporates the design codes of the Evolution 9 into the chronograph design, allowing you to enjoy a highly visible dial design with well-defined indices and an edgy case shape. The case is made of bright titanium, and although it is a large model and not particularly lightweight, it is well-balanced when worn, and has a presence yet a practical finish.
"Spring Drive GMT Ginza Limited Edition" Ref. SBGE313

This year, a limited edition model was released that incorporates the scenery of Ginza, the birthplace of Seiko and where the company's headquarters and flagship store are currently located. The 2025 limited edition model is the Ref. SBGE313, which is based on a model equipped with a Spring Drive movement and GMT display function.
The dial features a distinctive "Ginza grid pattern." This design, which incorporates the alleyways of Ginza, has become a standard for Ginza limited edition models, but this model uses an abstract renewal of the design of the previous model.
The image color of this watch is purple. While traditional shops and techniques have been cherished in Ginza, it has also adopted new cultures from around the world and developed into a cutting-edge town that disseminates culture and information. In order to design an image of a town that continues to disseminate originality to the world, purple was selected as a color that combines tradition and dignity while also inspiring the desire to take on new challenges. It is used on the dial and rotating bezel as a symbol of Ginza.
"Elegance Collection Wako Limited Edition" Ref.SBGJ291

Automatic movement (Cal. 9S86). 37 jewels. 36,000 vph. Power reserve approximately 55 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 39.5 mm, thickness 14.1 mm). Water resistant for everyday use. Sold out.
Limited edition models from Wako, based in Ginza, are also released every year, making them classic limited edition models. 2025 is no exception, with some fascinating new models announced. The first is the Grand Seiko Elegance Collection Wako Limited Edition Model, Ref. SBGJ291.
While based on a popular classical model, this model's distinctive feature is that it incorporates designs that feature the sparkle of diamonds throughout. The dial features delicate radial embossing and a pale gray hue, creating a multi-layered shadow effect that changes appearance depending on the viewing angle. This was inspired by the diamond motif, which displays different sparkles depending on the viewing angle. The "GS" logo and GMT hand are accented with gold, also evoking the sparkle of diamonds.
What sets this model apart from previous models is that, while based on a men's model, it has a design that can also be worn by women. The theme is that it can be incorporated into an outfit, like a piece of jewelry that adds a touch of glamour to the wrist. Reflecting this theme, the included crocodile strap is a sparkling pearl white, and is lavishly infused with the essence of jewelry: diamonds, gold, and pearls.
"Elegance Collection Wako Limited Edition" Ref.SBGJ289

Automatic movement (Cal. 9S86). 37 jewels. 36,000 vph. Power reserve approximately 55 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 39.5mm, thickness 14.1mm). Water resistant for everyday use. Sold out.
The other Wako limited edition model is the "Heritage Collection Wako Limited Edition" Ref. SBGJ289, which shares the basic design with Ref. SBGJ291 but incorporates a Ginza landscape during the rainy season on the dial.
The inspiration for this piece came from the unique blue-green color seen when looking out the window of Wako on a rainy day, overlooking the streets of Ginza. The dial incorporates a transparent color typical of Japan, and features a delicate embossed pattern reminiscent of raindrops streaming down a window. The white GMT hand creates a refreshing design while ensuring high visibility.
Symbolizing the high precision of the high-beat movement, Cal. 9S86, the dial is engraved with a precise scale down to one-fifth of a second on the outer edge, giving this watch a tool watch feel.
"Masterpiece Collection Spring Drive 8 Days Jewelry Watch Limited Edition" Ref. SBGD223

Grand Seiko also releases a small number of men's jewelry watches every year. This year's new release is the "Masterpiece Collection Spring Drive 8-Day Jewelry Watch Limited Edition" Ref. SBGD223, which depicts a lone lion emerging from the pitch-black darkness.
Since its launch in 1960, Grand Seiko has used the lion, a symbol of power, dignity, and royalty, as its brand symbol. This timepiece embodies the unwavering spirit of the brand, which has continued to pursue the pinnacle of wristwatches, sublimated into a design based on the lion, the brand's symbol. To express the theme of a lone lion emerging from the pitch-black darkness, the case, dial, bezel, and crown are adorned with over 600 diamonds, creating a design that radiates sparkle and an overwhelming presence within the monochrome worldview. Furthermore, the diamonds on the dial are placed next to black spinel, further enhancing their brilliance and boldly expressing the concept of "light and shadow."
The movement is the Micro Artist Studio Spring Drive 8 Days Cal. 9R01, which has three barrels arranged in series to provide a long power reserve of up to approximately 192 hours.
"Sports Collection AJHH 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Model" Ref.SBGE311

Automatic movement (Cal. 9R66). 30 jewels. Power reserve: approximately 72 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 40.5mm, thickness 14.7mm). Water resistant to 20 bar. Sold out.
The last item on our list is a limited edition model commemorating the 20th anniversary of the founding of the AJHH (Association Japon de la Haute Horlogerie, the Association of Authorized High-End Watches in Japan). Founded in 2005, AJHH is an organization with 19 member companies as of 2025 from among authorized watch retailers across Japan. Its goals are to foster a healthy market, pass on watch culture, spread the appeal of luxury watches, and further develop the watch industry by sharing information within the industry.
AJHH, an organization of watch retail professionals, had four core concepts in mind when planning this watch. The first was to use Spring Drive, a technology not available from other companies. The second was to depict Japanese aesthetics on the dial using highly skilled embossing. The third was to have a globally recognized status. And finally, to provide excellent after-sales service.
The dial of the "Sports Collection AJHH 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Model" Ref. SBGE311, equipped with the automatic Spring Drive movement Cal. 9R66, features a "snow-white pattern" inspired by the delicate wind patterns created by the wind blowing on the snow that has fallen on the Hotaka mountain range, which can be seen from Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, where this watch is manufactured. The white dial is complemented by a black ceramic bezel and a black and red endpaper that indicates day and night, creating a bold and sporty look.
Looking forward to new Grand Seiko models in 2026
As mentioned in the AJHH concept, each Grand Seiko model has received high praise from around the world. What's important here is that it's not just the high level of technology and quality that is drawing attention, but also the fact that the design incorporates Japanese spirituality and aesthetic sensibility, which has been well-received. This direction will continue into next year and beyond, and we can expect to see more attractive models being proposed.
Grand Seiko also offers comprehensive after-sales service, offering not only simple cleaning but also overhauls to readjust the watch to meet precision standards, and repair polishing to fill in and re-polish any major scratches. Purchasing and using a Grand Seiko in Japan also offers a geographical advantage.
Each of the models featured here is a limited edition, so they may all sell out. Be sure to keep checking back in 2026 to make sure you don't miss out on your favorite designs.
