What is the "Platinum Shine Collection" from Citizen Attesa, a watch that emits a special brilliance?

2026.01.08

Citizen Attesa launched the "Platinum Shine Collection" in 2025. The lineup consists of three models, all of which are limited edition. As the name "Platinum Shine" suggests, what exactly is this watch that emits such a special glow? We will explain this series, which showcases three special technologies.

Citizen Attesa Platinum Shine Collection

Introducing the Citizen Attesa "Platinum Shine Collection"

Since its launch in 1987, the Citizen Attesa has continued to evolve as a lightweight, high-performance titanium watch. In particular, Super Titanium™, which has been given a unique surface treatment, not only increases hardness but also allows for models to be made in a variety of colors and with antibacterial properties, making it a collection that symbolizes Citizen's watchmaking.

The new addition to the Citizen Attesa line, the Platinum Shine Collection, is a bit different from previous models. This collection pursues visual complexity and a unique look through a combination of different treatments.

The key to understanding this collection lies in three technical features, each independent yet interacting with the other to create a visual depth not found in ordinary wristwatches.

1. Use of crystalline titanium

What catches the eye in this collection is the "brilliance" of the inner links of the bracelet. These links are made of "crystalline titanium." This process involves treating the titanium material at high temperatures and then cooling it, which causes the composition to bond unevenly, resulting in the appearance of a crystalline pattern on the surface. Each bracelet has a different crystalline pattern, and no two are the same. While general industrial products emphasize uniformity, this collection emphasizes the value of "individual differences."

Citizen Attesa Platinum Shine Collection

Although luxury titanium watches are becoming increasingly common, this watch uses crystalline titanium, giving it an original design.

The 2022 HAKUTO-R collaboration model marks the first time that crystalline titanium has been used in a Citizen Attesa watch. Building on the proven track record of Super Titanium™ being used in the landing gear parts of the lander (lunar lander) for the private lunar exploration program HAKUTO-R, it was first used in the bezel and central bracelet links. This repurposes the reliability it offers in the extreme environment of space development into the design of a wristwatch.

2. Duratect Platinum surface treatment

As mentioned above, the watch is made of Citizen's proprietary Super Titanium™, which is pure titanium that has been surface-hardened. Of particular note is the surface treatment process called "Duratect Platinum" that is applied to the crystalline titanium and other main parts.

Platinum is a soft precious metal with a hardness of Hv50 to Hv110, and its use in practical watches, which are designed for heavy use, posed barriers in terms of cost and scratch resistance. However, Citizen has used its unique processing technology to create a titanium material with a hardness of Hv1000 to Hv1200, about five times that of stainless steel, without compromising its brilliance.

Another distinctive feature is the use of contrasting colors. The case and bracelet are treated with Duratect Platinum, giving them the brilliance of platinum, a color previously reserved for luxury watches, while the bezel is adorned with a sapphire crystal ring and a lustrous black color, creating a sporty impression.

3. A dial with a texture you wouldn't expect from a solar watch

Citizen Attesa Platinum Shine Collection

The transparent polycarbonate dial was one of the challenges facing solar watches, but Japanese watch brands such as Citizen are gradually overcoming this challenge.

Typically, solar watches use transparent materials like polycarbonate to transmit light to the solar cell located below the dial, and there are restrictions on painting and decorating the dial. However, the Platinum Shine Collection achieves a heavy texture as if it were carved out of a single block of metal. Combined with the carefully beveled finish of the indexes and hands, it achieves a solid, deep aesthetic comparable to that of a luxury mechanical watch.

The dial also resonates with crystalline titanium. The dial pattern is painted with a metallic finish reminiscent of crystalline titanium, while the hands, indexes, and faceplate ring are all unified in a silver tone. The "crystal" of the bracelet and the "painted crystal" of the dial visually echo each other, and although it is monochrome, it creates a variety of different expressions depending on the angle of light reflection.

This multi-layered approach based on three technologies is a decisive differentiator from the standard model, and indicates the new direction that Citizen Attesa will take into the next era.

The AT8284-61A is a basic model with a diameter of 42.0 mm and a thickness of 10.8 mm.

Equipped with the Cal. H800 movement, this radio-controlled watch automatically adjusts the time by receiving standard radio waves from six stations: Fukushima and Kyushu in Japan, China, the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Other features include a direct flight mechanism that allows you to change time zones simply by turning the crown, a 1/20-second chronograph (60-minute counter), a 24-hour display, a day and date display, and a perpetual calendar. Combined with water resistance to 10 bar, this is a perfect watch for everyday use.

CB0284-66A

Citizen Attesa Platinum Shine Collection

Citizen Attesa "Platinum Shine Collection" Ref. CB0284-66A
Solar-powered Eco-Drive (Cal. H145). Accuracy ±15 seconds per month. Runs for approximately two years on a full charge (in power save mode). Super Titanium™ case (diameter 40.6mm, thickness 10.6mm). Water resistant to 10 bar. Limited edition of 1400 pieces. Price: 187,000 yen (tax included).

The movement is Cal. H145, and like the AT8284-61A, it receives standard radio waves from six stations around the world. It also has a world time function (26 time zones) and a perpetual calendar.

The exterior is made of Super Titanium™ with Duratect Platinum, and the bezel is made of Duratect DLC, creating a two-tone design. The three models share the same exterior concept of crystalline titanium and Duratect Platinum for the center link, but combined with the 40mm case size, this model gives the most elegant and sophisticated impression.

Summary | Key Points to Remember When Using the Platinum Shine Collection

The "Platinum Shine Collection" is a new collection from Citizen Attesa that uses crystalline titanium to create a shining effect with the crystal pattern itself. At the same time, the case and bracelet are made of Super Titanium™, which not only makes them lightweight but also provides the scratch resistance and aesthetic appeal of Duratect Platinum.

All models will be produced in limited quantities, so if you're interested, we recommend checking them out early.
