The eye-catching "Blast Freewheel Maille Shawl"
The Ulysse Nardin Blast Freewheel Maille Chaussure is a new model that immediately catches your eye when you hold it in your hand. This is because the various components on the dial, including the gear train at 9 o'clock, are arranged in three dimensions, utilizing the space created by the box-shaped crystal. Furthermore, the gear train that connects to the flying tourbillon at 6 o'clock is hidden from view, creating the illusion that it is floating in the air and continuing to rotate even without the transmission of power.
It's not just the design that makes this watch unique. The flying tourbillon uses Ulysse Nardin's exclusive Ulysse Anchor Constant Escapement. This equalizes the force applied to the balance, improving operational stability and isochronism even when output energy fluctuates due to changes in the remaining winding of the mainspring. The circular frame that secures the anchor is supported by two leaf springs, suspended in mid-air. The leaf springs bend under pressure, yet maintain a stable state. The innovation of this mechanism has been highly praised, winning the Tourbillon Prize at the 2015 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix.
The dial is made of Maille Chauve, from which the model takes its name. Maille Chauve is an alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel invented in France in the early 19th century, and has a warm silvery hue and a unique textured feel. Its appeal lies not only in its durability, but also in the fact that it develops a patina over time.
Each of these elements is housed in a sapphire crystal box-shaped crystal that can be viewed from both the front and the side of the case, providing the perfect structure for enjoying this unique piece in its entirety.
