Focus on luxury watches that are as glamorous as jewelry, lavishly decorated with precious stones

This time, we will delve deeper into the appeal of watches as decorative objects, focusing on luxury women's watches that are as glamorous as jewelry and lavishly use precious metals and gemstones. Looking back at the history of watches as decorative objects, we can see that there is a lineage of watches that are similar to jewelry and feature elaborate decorations, and a lineage of complicated watches that incorporate technology into their mechanisms, such as perpetual calendars and automata, and that masterpieces that incorporate elements of each or both have been created over time.

Jewelry and watchmaking share many similarities, such as metalworking and fine craftsmanship, and there are many brands that produce both jewelry and watches, as well as brands that specialize in jewel-studded watches. Here, we will introduce luxury women's watches that are as glamorous as jewelry, offered by these brands.

Breguet is one of the most well-known watch brands with a long history of producing attractive luxury watches for women. This timepiece is the Reine de Naples 9935, Ref. 9935BH/4Y/964 D0.

The Reine de Naples collection, formerly known as "Queen of Naples," was renamed to coincide with Breguet's 250th anniversary in 2025. Inspired by the first ever wristwatch in Breguet's history, made for Queen Caroline Murat of Naples between 1810 and 1812, the Reine de Naples collection features a case shape with soft, oval curves. The offset dial is also a design code.

The dial of the featured Ref. 9935BH/4Y/964 D0 features a two-layer structure of Tahitian mother-of-pearl overlaid with aventurine glass, giving it a mysterious aurora-like coloring that sets it apart from other aventurine dial models. The offset dial features a small seconds hand at 7 o'clock and a moon phase display at 12 o'clock. The moon phase window has a tilted design reminiscent of a crescent moon, which, combined with the sparkle and expression of the aventurine dial, makes it look like a moon floating in a starry sky.

The case is crafted from 18K Breguet gold, a material developed to commemorate the 250th anniversary. This gold, with a hue somewhere between yellow and rose gold, exudes a warmth and elegance. The combination of the blue dial and alligator strap creates a chic impression. The round lug at 6 o'clock, adorned with a diamond snow setting, and the pear-shaped diamond at 12 o'clock are also new features not found on previous models and are sure to become icons of the collection.

Bvlgari "Serpenti Tubogas" Ref. 103905

Automatic winding (Cal. BVS100 Lady Solotempo). 28 jewels. 21,600 vph. Power reserve approximately 50 hours. 18KPG case (diameter 35mm, thickness 10.8mm). Water resistant to 30m. 8,085,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Bvlgari Japan Tel. 0120-030-142

Next, let's look at Bvlgari. As you know, Bvlgari possesses high-level watchmaking technology as a manufacturer, and by combining this with the technical skills of a jeweler and a unique design sense, it has produced many attractive luxury watches for women.

The one we picked out is the "Serpenti Tubogas" Ref. 103905. The "Serpenti" collection is based on the motif of the snake, which has been a symbol of mysticism and intelligence since ancient times, and is one of Bulgari's icons. The Serpenti collection includes a wide range of jewelry such as bracelets, rings, and necklaces, and one of Bulgari's charms is that you can choose a watch that coordinates with these items.

The Serpenti Tubogas Ref. 103905 features a snake-head motif and a "double spiral bracelet" that extends from the watch head and wraps around the wrist. The case is made of 18K pink gold, and the jeweler's skill shines through in combining the brilliance of the gold metal with the soft curves of the snake's organic silhouette.

While this collection has traditionally mostly used quartz movements, this model, released in 2025, uses the BVS100 Lady Solotempo, a compact automatic movement with a diameter of 19mm and a thickness of 3.90mm. The balance wheel is supported by twin bridges for increased durability, and the power reserve is approximately 50 hours, making it highly practical.

In addition to the Serpenti, Bulgari also produces the iconic Bulgari Bulgari, with its bezel engraved with the brand name, the modern Lucea, and the high jewelry watch Diva Dream, making it a brand that cannot be overlooked when considering luxury watches for women.

Rolex "Lady-Datejust" Ref. 279135RBR

Rolex Lady-Datejust 279135RBR

Rolex "Lady-Datejust" Ref. 279135RBR
Automatic movement (Cal. 2236). 31 jewels. 28,800 vph. 18K Everose gold case (28mm diameter). Water resistant to 100m.

So far, we have looked at examples of designs exclusively for women's models. In contrast to this, there is Rolex, whose Oyster Perpetual and Oyster Perpetual Datejust collections are characterized by a lineup that ranges from men's sizes to compact sizes for women, based on a unified basic design.

The Lady-Datejust featured here features a compact 28mm case diameter that fits perfectly on a woman's wrist, and incorporates Rolex's design codes in the case shape, bracelet, and "crown" at 12 o'clock. The case and bracelet are made of Rolex's exclusive 18K Everose gold, which maintains its pink gold color for a long time, and the combination of the diamond-set bezel creates a gorgeous look. The dial is coordinated in a chic sunray chocolate color, and the star-shaped indexes and the Roman "IX" indexes are also set with diamonds.

Another notable feature of the Lady-Datejust is that it comes with a "President bracelet," available only in 18K gold or platinum. This is a special design that has traditionally been used on the "Day-Date." Its three-dimensional shape, resembling a series of semicircular links, highlights the brilliance of the precious metal. It also features a "Concealed Crown Clasp," which allows the three-dimensional links to wrap around the wrist, creating an elegant look reminiscent of high jewelry.

Omega Constellation Ref. 131.25.25.60.60.002

オメガ コンステレーション 131.25.25.60.60.002

Omega Constellation Ref. 131.25.25.60.60.002
Quartz (Cal. 4061). Stainless steel x 18K Sedna™ gold case (diameter 25mm, thickness 8.1mm). Water resistant to 30m. 1,573,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Omega Tel. 0570-000087

Next up, let's look at Omega's Constellation. Omega's Constellation has a long history, having been launched in 1952 as a highly accurate, high-end model. The eight stars and observatory motifs that are still carried over to current models were already featured in the first model, symbolizing the eight records that Omega set in competitions held at the Teddington and Geneva observatories.

The current design codes, such as a silhouette with a line connecting the case to the bracelet, claw-shaped motifs at 3 and 9 o'clock, and a flat bracelet, were established in 1982. Since then, the design has been gradually revised and the variations have been increased, and today it is a dress watch collection with a wide range of sizes, from a 41mm diameter model for men to a 25mm model for women.

The featured watch is the Ref. 131.25.25.60.60.002, with its striking purple dial. It features a symbolic star motif at the 6 o'clock position, with a pattern that appears to radiate light from that point. The bezel is crafted from Omega's exclusive 18K Moonshine Gold, which is inspired by the moon shining in the night sky and features a lighter hue than traditional 18K yellow gold. Combined with the purple hue of the dial, it creates a vibrant yet subdued impression, making it suitable for a variety of occasions.

This is just my personal opinion, but of the models featured this time, I think the modern design of the Constellation is the one that best matches a suit style.

Glashütte Original "Serenade Luna" Ref. 1-35-14-10-12-04

GO Serenade Luna

Glashütte Original "Serenade Luna" Ref. 1-35-14-10-12-04
Automatic winding (Cal. 35-14). 32 jewels. 28,800 vph. Power reserve approximately 60 hours. Stainless steel case (diameter 32.5 mm, thickness 8.9 mm). 2,046,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Glashütte Original Boutique Ginza Tel. 03-6254-7266

Our final pick is the latest Glashütte Original Serenade Luna in a Purple Velvet colorway. Breguet, Rolex, and Omega, all of which have been mentioned so far, are based in Switzerland, while Bulgari is based in Italy but its watch division is located in Switzerland. Glashütte Original, on the other hand, is based in Glashütte in eastern Germany. Glashütte has long been a center of the watch industry, and even today, several prestigious brands are based there.

The Serenade Luna features a moon phase display at 6 o'clock, showcasing the changing phases of the moon. The rotating disc, crafted from a combination of white and dark Tahitian mother-of-pearl, serves as a design accent for this watch. This display is powered by the Caliber 35-14 automatic movement, developed in-house by Glashütte Original specifically for the Serenade Luna. Despite its compact dimensions of 26mm in diameter and 3.8mm thick, the Caliber 35-14 boasts a highly practical power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Furthermore, the watch features the large plate favored by Glashütte brands, which is finished with high-quality detailing.

The purple velvet dial is a deep violet color with a delicate sunray finish, evoking the texture of silk or velvet. Diamonds are set on the indexes and bezel, adding a touch of sparkle.

In addition to the brilliance created by the diamonds on the dial and bezel, the charm of this watch lies in the various finishes applied to the Cal. 35-14 and the eye-catching details such as the blued screws. If you are thinking of purchasing a luxury watch that also includes an attractive movement, then Glashütte Original should definitely be on your list.
