In February 2026, a new concept store, "Dior Bamboo Pavilion," opened in Daikanyama, Tokyo. Surrounded by greenery and covering an area of over 1800 square meters, the store also features "Café Dior," created by Michelin-starred chef Anne-Sophie Pic, and has already become a hot topic. Yui Tonokawa, a food journalist and author of the lead column "Creators of Otherworldly Delicacies" in the Japanese edition of Kronos, visited the store to introduce its charms.

A "Dream Kingdom" born from a Japanese aesthetic and a passion for the plant world

Dior Bamboo Pavilion

The fantastically illuminated Dior Bamboo Pavilion.

The newly unveiled Dior Bamboo Pavilion is a sight to behold, even from the outside. The concept of a new base that inherits Dior's unwavering ties with Japan is expressed through the craftsmanship of its artisans. The architecture, watched over by the stars that have guided Dior's destiny, is a reinterpretation of the facade of the Paris flagship store, 30 Montaigne, with gold-dyed bamboo. This was inspired by Japanese bamboo forests. The poetic garden, designed by renowned plant hunter Seijun Nishihata, combines tradition and innovation and is composed of rare plants. Artworks, such as glass carp swimming in a pond, are scattered throughout, so we encourage you to take your time to stroll around.

Behind the terrace seats is a garden designed by Seijun Nishihata.

Cafe Dior has also opened on the premises as a homage to the "Art de Vivre" (aesthetics of living) beloved by founder and couturier Christian Dior, who also described himself as a gourmet. This is the third store in Japan, following those at Kansai Airport in Osaka and GINZA SIX in Tokyo. Facing the terrace, the interior is bathed in plenty of sunlight, creating a gentle and tranquil atmosphere. Wisteria flowers will slowly grow on the shelves above the terrace seats, and will eventually become a magnificent trellis. The lanterns on the tables and the tea kettles on the counter are a mellow fusion of traditional Japanese beauty. By the way, the restrooms, with their hidden doors, are also breathtakingly surprising, so don't forget to check them out.

The interior is decorated with artwork that expresses the passion for plants.

Azuma Makoto "Paludarium"

The Paludarium by Azuma Makoto is placed at the entrance of the cafe.

The interior of "Café Dior by Anne-Sophie Pic Bamboo Pavilion" is dotted with artworks with compelling stories. The first thing that catches your eye at the entrance to the cafe is the "Paludarium," an official collaboration with flower artist Azuma Makoto. Based on the concept of a "sound room," it is designed to automatically create a fantastical atmosphere with music playing and steam rising. Enjoy the changing colors of the flowers according to the season.

Azuma Makoto "Block Flower"

"Block flowers" are lined up on the walls on both sides.

The "Block Flowers" that adorn the walls are also Azuma's creations. They are made by encasing fresh flowers in resin, and are made from flowers that bloomed in Granville, where Monsieur Dior was born and raised, as well as flowers from Japan. Each flower is labeled with a name, in the hope that visitors will find one they like.

The artwork that seems to rain down from the ceiling is an installation by Ayumi Shibata. It was previously exhibited at the "Christian Dior, Couture of Dreams" exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and was carefully adapted by Shibata herself to suit this cafe. The space is one in which you are enveloped in gorgeous art no matter which way you look.

Limited menu by France's only three-star female chef

Anne-Sophie Pic

Anne-Sophie Pic, the designer of Cafe Dior.

One of the reasons Cafe Dior has attracted so much attention is its chef. Anne-Sophie Pic, whose grandfather and father have been three generations of chefs who have earned three Michelin stars, is the female chef with the most Michelin stars in the world. She was also named the World's Best Female Chef by the World's 50 Best Restaurants. Located in a secluded corner of Valence in the Rhône Valley, Maison Pic serves a four- to five-hour course meal for just under 40 guests, catered to by 28 servers and 21 sommeliers. The restaurant also features a rooftop garden where aromatic plants are cultivated, and the use of fresh herbs in the dishes is a distinctive feature. Even just a brief conversation with this fascinating chef offers an exclusive menu (although I wasn't able to interview him this time, I hope to have an in-depth interview someday).

At Café Dior, she expresses her philosophy of "impregnation," based on a shared passion for the plant world. She immerses herself in the archives, creating dishes that reflect her own cuisine and the brand's identity through iconic shapes and motifs. Here, we introduce three exclusive menu items available only at the Dior Bamboo Pavilion in Daikanyama.

Le Trefle

"Le Trefle" 5000 yen (tax included).

Le Trefle, shaped like a four-leaf clover, is a cake made with a pistachio-flavored tart base, layered with biscuits such as matcha and brown rice tea, and hidden inside is a yuzu confit. The ladybug resting on the matcha and tarragon mousse is made of chocolate. This is a homage to Jonathan Anderson, the new creative director of Dior.

Le Cannage Sucre

"Le Cannage Sucre" 5000 yen (tax included).

"Le Cannage Sucre," which features Dior's iconic "cannage" pattern, is a rice pudding based on a chocolate-coated rice streusel. It is a meticulous blend of strawberries, rice, and sake, which Pic loves. Jelly made from sake, mirin, and sake lees is placed in several places, giving the impression of a subtle fragrance gradually spreading. Both are a wonderful fusion of Dior's unique, playful spirit and Japanese ingredients.

Le Pain Queso Man

"Le Pain Que Ju Man" 5000 yen (tax included).

"Le Pain Couju Main" is a sandwich that reinterprets the popular southern French snack "pain bagnat." It features seasonal vegetables, marinated tuna, and basil pesto sandwiched between soft bread infused with the delicate flavor of buckwheat tea. The idea was inspired by Château de La Cornoire in the south of France, where Monsieur Dior spent his holidays.

latté

A hot "latte" with a star design costs 2000 yen (tax included).

To pair with the cakes and sandwiches, we recommend the hot lattes and cappuccinos, each decorated with the brand's iconic icons. Choose from five designs: star, houndstooth, bee, rose, and mitza. The Daikanyama store also specializes in Japanese tea, which is served in tea utensils designed by ceramic artists Ryuji Iwasaki and Hirotsune Nakazato.

You will be impressed not only by the taste but also by the worldview of Café Dior by Anne-Sophie Pic Bamboo Pavilion. Why not make a reservation and enjoy an elegant moment?
