A meteorite dial model has been added to the high-spec "Marvelite" series.
Ball Watch is a brand that has produced superior, practical timepieces based on numerous technologies it has developed in-house. From self-illuminating micro gas lights to enhance visibility, to shock-resistant structures such as the "Safety Lock Crown System," "Amortizer shock absorption ring," and "Spring Seal," and magnetic-resistant inner cases, the underlying technologies are groundbreaking and significantly reduce the weaknesses of mechanical watches.
Among the company's collection, which features many serious sports watches such as diver's watches and chronographs, the "Engineer" series stands out for its simple design while allowing you to appreciate its technical prowess. In particular, the "Engineer Marvelite" has earned high praise as a business watch, thanks to its elegant design, which incorporates large indices with self-illuminating micro gas lights and an anti-magnetic inner case.

This model combines a compact 36mm diameter case with a meteorite dial. Colorful indices add a touch of individuality. It features an automatic movement (Cal. RR1103-C), 25 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of approximately 38 hours. It has a stainless steel case (36mm diameter, 12.7mm thickness) and is water-resistant to 10 atmospheres. Price: ¥473,000 (including tax).
The latest addition to the lineup is the "Marvelite Chronometer 36 Meteorite." As the name suggests, this model combines a 36mm diameter case with a meteorite dial, adding individuality and rarity to its inherent practicality, making it a truly unique timepiece.
This time, I had the opportunity to conduct a hands-on review of this highly anticipated title. This game is, quite literally, an "unconventional" title. Let's explore its appeal.
Pay attention to the colorful indices and meteorite dial.
The highlight of this watch is its meteorite dial, but what immediately catches the eye are the colorful indices. Finished in fluorescent colors, they evoke the hues of candy or gummy bears. Six colors are used—green, white, yellow, blue, orange, and red—and the opposite indices are the same color to create a balanced look.

Each of these index tabs is fitted with a self-illuminating micro gas light of the same color, allowing you to enjoy the colorful design even in the dark. As the name suggests, these self-illuminating micro gas lights emit light regardless of the ambient brightness. Unlike phosphorescent paint, they will not dim after a few hours.
The dial is made from a thin slice of Muonionalusta meteorite. The mesh-like pattern that appears on the surface is called the Widmanstätten pattern, and it is said to have formed slowly over more than a million years. The random sparkle created by this pattern is perhaps the greatest appeal of the meteorite dial. Also, because it is created in nature, each piece has a different pattern. Even with the same model, the pattern will differ from piece to piece, giving you the satisfaction of owning a one-of-a-kind timepiece.

A date display is located at the 3 o'clock position, making it perfect for daily use. The magnifying lens mounted on the sapphire crystal makes it easy to read the date. The dauphine-shaped hour and minute hands, and the slender second hand, are each equipped with self-illuminating micro gas lights, allowing for comfortable time reading even in the dark.
Features a 904L stainless steel case.
This model has a case diameter of 36mm. While many brands have recently released models with smaller cases, Marvelite added a 36mm case to its lineup ahead of the trend. The timeless size, unaffected by trends, is undeniably appealing. It might be slightly underwhelming for larger individuals, but in this case, the colorful indices and meteorite dial more than compensate for this, giving it a striking presence.

The case is made of 904L stainless steel. Stainless steel, being an alloy, has properties determined by its composition. 904L stainless steel, with its higher content of chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and copper, boasts superior corrosion resistance and a brighter, more lustrous aesthetic compared to 316L stainless steel, which is used in many luxury watches. However, its inherent toughness makes it difficult to process, limiting its use to only a select few brands. Finding another model in the same price range using the same material would be quite challenging.
The case, which houses an anti-magnetic inner case that provides magnetic resistance of 8 A/m, is 12.7mm thick. Considering the presence of the inner case, it is not particularly thick, but its small diameter gives it a rounded impression. To make the most of its presence, it is given a three-dimensional design with gently bulging case sides, smoothly sloping lugs, and an angled bezel. Another attractive feature is the combination of polished finishes on the case sides and bezel and hairline finishes on the top of the lugs, achieving a balance between sportiness and dressiness. The case back is engraved with a train, symbolizing the history of Ball Watch.

The bracelet, made of the same 904L stainless steel as the case, features a design that combines H-shaped and square links. Beveling the edges creates a contrast between polished and brushed finishes. This careful beveling also contributes to a smooth feel against the skin. The double-folding buckle has a clean look due to the absence of a push button, but it requires some force to release, making it difficult to fasten or unfasten instantly.

COSC-certified chronometer high-precision movement
The movement used in this watch is the Cal.RR1103-C, a mechanical automatic winding movement based on a general-purpose movement. Although it is based on a general-purpose movement, it has been adjusted to meet the high precision requirements of a COSC-certified chronometer.
The operation is standard for a three-hand movement with a date display. With the screw-down crown released, the mainspring is wound; pulling it out one click allows for quick-set of the date; and pulling it out another click stops the second hand, allowing for time adjustment.
The controls feel easy to use, without excessive weight or wobbling. You should be able to use this game without any trouble, even if it's your first one.
The comfortable, unobtrusive fit makes it suitable for everyday wear.
When I actually put it on my wrist, the 36mm diameter case fit comfortably on my wrist, which has a circumference of 16.5cm. The case is somewhat thick and has a fair amount of weight, but the sturdy bracelet balances the weight well. I didn't feel tired even after wearing it all day.

What's truly remarkable is its excellent legibility. Meteorite dials, due to their random patterns and the resulting shimmer, can sometimes be less legible than conventional dials. Depending on the design of the indices and hands, they can become so integrated into the dial that you have to strain your eyes to read the time.
However, in this particular model, the fluorescent indices stand out strongly, making it easy to read the time clearly. The colorful indices are not merely a design element, but also contribute to improved practicality.
The only inconvenience I found was the buckle design. As mentioned earlier, it's a snap-in type rather than a push button, so you need to apply some force to release it. You can easily release it by sliding your finger inside the buckle, but it still takes a little time. If you plan on frequently putting it on and taking it off, you should keep this in mind.

High-spec, distinctive watches
Based on the Marvelite, which features magnetic resistance thanks to its anti-magnetic inner case and high visibility thanks to its self-illuminating micro gas lights, and boasts a 904L stainless steel exterior, this model fully satisfies the need for a distinctive timepiece without sacrificing practicality.
The meteorite dial, forged over eons, evokes a sense of cosmic mystery, while the colorful indices lift your spirits. Its unique design will serve as an iconic statement of your personality. While the bold, pop-art colors might make it unsuitable for the workplace, you can simply wear a different watch in that case.
Incidentally, there are many other variations of the Marvelite, and if you want a more subdued look, you can choose the meteorite dial with regular, non-colorful indices. Models with precious stone dials such as tiger's eye are also available. Moreover, all of them are in a fairly affordable price range.
This watch boasts high specifications that make it perfectly suitable for everyday use, but its design isn't exactly versatile enough to wear everywhere. Therefore, it's more likely to be considered as a second or subsequent watch rather than a first purchase. While building a collection of reliable and versatile timepieces is enjoyable, adding a model that reflects your unique personality and passion will significantly deepen your collection. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend experiencing the brilliance of meteorite.
