Now that the era of smaller diameters has finally arrived, which watch should someone with slender wrists choose?
One of the current trends in the watch industry is the miniaturization of watch cases. In the past, large and heavy, so-called "big and thick" models were popular, especially in sporty designs. The comfortable feel of a compact watch is a benefit for many people, but this trend is especially welcome for watch enthusiasts with slender wrists who have been waiting for smaller sizes for a long time. I myself have thin wrists, and I have often sighed when trying on watches in stores and checking the balance between my wrist and the watch.
So, this time, we'll introduce five small, easy-to-wear sporty watches that have emerged from this trend. While some models are slightly larger, we've considered wearability from an overall perspective, including lug length and the lightness of the materials themselves. Let's find the perfect watch for yourself to enjoy the era of smaller watches that has finally arrived.
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, Ref. 210.90.42.20.01.001

The "Bond watch" featured in the film "No Time to Die." Despite its 42mm diameter case, its understated design makes it easy to wear even on slender wrists. Automatic movement (Cal. 8806). 35 jewels. 25,200 vibrations/hour. Power reserve of approximately 55 hours. Titanium case (42mm diameter). 300m water resistance. 1,595,000 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Omega Tel. 0570-000087
The first watch is the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, a diver's watch with a 42mm diameter case. A 42mm case is a size that might require some courage to wear on a slender wrist. However, it would be a shame to dismiss it without trying it. The visual impression changes greatly depending on the coloring, design, and overall length of the case.
This model is a direct reproduction of the "Bond watch" that appeared in the James Bond film "No Time to Die." It features a dark brown dial that resembles faded black, combined with luminous indices and hands that evoke the appearance of aged radium. Other distinctive features include its simple non-date design and the broad arrow at the 6 o'clock position, which indicates that it is a British government-issued item.
The case is made of Grade 2 titanium. While Grade 2 titanium is often given a sandblasted finish due to the difficulty of processing, this model features a hairline finish, giving it a solid impression. The slightly grayish color also emphasizes its tool-like feel. High-end watches often use Grade 5 titanium, which is easier to give a bright color and a luxurious finish, but Grade 2 is more appropriate for this military-inspired model. In terms of corrosion resistance and hypoallergenic properties, which are characteristics of titanium, Grade 2, being pure titanium, is superior.
The dial and case, unified in slightly darker tones, give the watch an overall refined impression, making it appear more compact than its actual dimensions suggest. The twisted lugs, with their downward-facing bevels, also contribute to this sense of compactness. Furthermore, the case length from lug to lug is 49.6mm, which is not excessive relative to the case diameter, resulting in a comfortable fit on the wrist. It could be considered a prime example of a diver's watch that is gentle on slender wrists.
Tudor "Ranger" Ref. M79930-0007

The new 2025 "Ranger" model combines a 36mm diameter case with a highly legible dune white dial. Its versatility makes it easy to wear in any situation. Automatic movement (Cal. MT5400). 27 jewels. 28,800 vibrations/hour. Power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Stainless steel case (36mm diameter, 11mm thickness). 100m water resistance. 540,100 yen (tax included). (Inquiries) Rolex Japan / Tudor Tel. 0120-929-570
Released in 2025 as a new model amidst a gradual trend toward smaller watch sizes, the Tudor Ranger features a 36mm case, offering a friendly design and robust construction, making it an undeniably excellent choice. While the existing Ranger lineup only included a 39mm case with a black dial, the new model features a 36mm case and a Dune White dial. The smaller size gives it a more original feel, and the new dial color successfully adds a new appeal to the Ranger.
Even with changes in case size and dial color, the essence of the Ranger as a true tool watch remains unchanged. The matte dune white dial, contrasted with black printed indices, provides high visibility, while the combination of Arabic numerals and bars indices, along with the arrow-shaped hour hand, ensures that the time can be read instantly regardless of the watch's orientation.
The compact case, including the bezel and case sides, features a consistent hairline finish, giving it a solid and sophisticated look. With 100m water resistance, it can be worn with confidence in a wide range of situations, from business to outdoor activities. In addition to a stainless steel bracelet, variations with fabric straps made on traditional looms are also available.
The movement is a Kenissi-made automatic mechanical movement, Cal.MT5400. It features a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, high precision certified as a COSC chronometer, and a robust design including a double-supported balance bridge.
Breitling Endurance Pro 38, Ref. X83310A71B1S1

A chronograph watch featuring a Brightlight® case, which boasts 3.3 times the lightness of titanium. Equipped with a high-spec quartz movement. Quartz. Brightlight® case (38mm diameter, 12.1mm thickness). 10 ATM water resistance. ¥478,500 (tax included). (Inquiries) Breitling Japan Tel. 0120-105-707
Breitling watches are appealing to men with their mechanical designs. However, their large, polished, and imposing exteriors may have made them inaccessible to many readers with smaller wrists. If that's the case, it's time to update your perception.
Since Georges Kern became CEO in 2017, Breitling has successively restructured its collections. The massive pilot chronograph "Chronomat" has become a sophisticated, multi-purpose sports watch, and the Avenger has been redesigned and integrated with the "Colt" to achieve a more modern design. The "Superocean" now features a collection inspired by iconic archive pieces of the brand, and new dressy collections such as the "Premier" have been added. Today, Breitling has transformed into a luxury watch brand loved by people of all ages.
Amidst this, the "Endurance Pro 38" is a model that retains Breitling's signature mechanical flair while being easy to wear even on slender wrists. The wing logo, which remains popular with dedicated fans, is positioned at 12 o'clock, and it features three totalizers reminiscent of aviation instruments, as well as a bidirectional rotating bezel that functions as a simple compass. The black dial with Arabic numeral indices offers excellent visibility and legibility.
The case is made of Brightlight®, a material characterized by its lightweight, robustness, non-magnetic properties, thermal stability, and hypoallergenic nature. Developed as a lightweight watch for athletes, this timepiece also offers significant advantages in terms of comfortable wearability for everyday use. Furthermore, with a case diameter of just 38mm, it can be worn by both men and women.
The movement is quartz. It's a high-spec quartz movement equipped with a temperature compensation function and has obtained COSC-certified chronometer status.
Cartier "Santos de Cartier" Ref.WSSA0089

The Santos, one of Cartier's signature pieces, features a titanium case for a lightweight and comfortable fit. It is an automatic movement (Cal. 1847MC), with 23 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. It has a titanium case (39.8mm diameter, 9.38mm thickness) and is water-resistant to 10 atmospheres. Price: ¥1,887,600 (including tax). (Inquiries: Cartier Customer Service Center Tel. 0120-1847-00)
Cartier boasts many iconic collections. Among them, the Santos, which was created in 1904, is a masterpiece that rivals the Tank. Initially developed at the request of Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont as a tool for checking the time while flying, it was later made available to the public and has been cherished as a timeless masterpiece, evolving over time.
The Santos is also known as the world's first men's wristwatch. While watches worn on the wrist had existed before, they were essentially pocket watches with lugs attached and straps threaded through them, and were not developed as wristwatches. The Santos, on the other hand, was developed from the outset with the purpose of being worn on the wrist, making it a pure wristwatch.
The model featured here is a large-size model with a 39.8mm wide case. While 39.8mm is somewhat substantial for a square watch, the Santos has short lugs, making it a good fit even for those with slender wrists. The case and bracelet are made of titanium, making it lightweight as well.
This model comes with a titanium bracelet as well as a nubuck alligator leather strap. Each strap features a quick-release switch that allows for easy removal from the case, making it simple to change or clean the straps.
The movement used is the Cal.1847MC, a mechanical automatic winding movement. It is an in-house manufactured movement whose caliber number is the year Cartier was founded.
Longines "Longines Spirit Zulu Time" Ref. L3.802.1.53.6

This GMT watch features a two-tone ceramic bezel for displaying a second time zone. While adhering to the design codes of pilot watches, it boasts a refined finish. Automatic movement (Cal. L844.4). 21 jewels. 25,200 vibrations/hour. Power reserve approximately 72 hours. Titanium case (39mm diameter, 13.5mm thickness). 10 ATM water resistance. ¥642,400 (tax included). (Inquiries) Longines Tel. 03-6254-7350
Longines watches have been chosen and cherished by many adventurers throughout their long history. The "Longines Spirit" collection extracts and reconstructs that essence. One of its lineups, the "Longines Spirit Zulu Time," pays homage to Longines' first second time zone display model, which was created in 1925, by incorporating a GMT function.
The basic design is reminiscent of a pilot's watch. It features a black dial with highly legible Arabic numeral indices and a date display at the 6 o'clock position. A distinctive feature is the stepped design between the central and outer sections, creating a three-dimensional effect. The five shining stars are an important symbol for Longines, signifying superior reliability and precision. The use of gold accents throughout enhances contrast and adds elegance, characteristic of the company's skill in balancing practicality and aesthetics.
The GMT function can be accessed via a triangular hand with a red tip and a 24-hour indicator on a ceramic insert set in a bidirectional rotating bezel. By rotating the bezel, you can easily check the time in different time zones, and by pulling the crown out one click, you can jump the hour hand in one-hour increments to set the local time when traveling abroad.
The automatic movement Cal.L844.4, which enables the GMT function in this model, features a silicon balance spring and boasts excellent magnetic resistance. The approximately 72-hour power reserve is also reassuring.
The case and bracelet are made of lightweight titanium. The case has a diameter of 39mm, which is a compact size for a sports watch with a rotating bezel. The vertical length is kept to 46.8mm, making it easy to wear even on slender wrists.
The bracelet features an interchangeable system that allows it to be easily attached to and detached from the case by pressing a push button on the back.
