A multi-brand boutique where you can enjoy a new kind of shopping experience.
Azabudai Hills, which opened in November 2023 as a new landmark in central Tokyo, has given rise to a new mecca for watch enthusiasts in a quiet area within its vast grounds, lined with boutiques of famous brands.
Time Valley ISHIDA Azabudai Hills opened in April 2024. Time Valley is a luxury watch and jewelry retailer established in 2014 by the Richemont Group, which owns luxury watch maisons. It currently operates approximately 50 stores worldwide, mainly in Asia, but also in Europe and America. The Azabudai Hills store is the first in Japan. BEST ISHIDA, which operates authorized watch retailers in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo, is the strategic partner in its operation.
What makes it unique is its format. While authorized watch retailers are scattered throughout Japan, the number of boutiques specializing in a single brand has been increasing in recent years. Among them, Time Valley ISHIDA Azabudai Hills positions itself as a "multi-brand boutique," offering a total of 11 brands, including brands belonging to the Richemont Group such as Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and IWC, as well as Chanel, Chopard, and Zenith. It presents a unique style unlike traditional watch stores.
The deep blue lacquer dial on the front of this timepiece is the result of 20 coats of lacquer. In addition to a blue calfskin strap that matches the dial's color tone, a textile strap is also available, and it can be easily changed using the interchangeable system. The store features a spacious layout with seven brand corners surrounding a central pillar and showcase adorned with the "TIME VALLÉE" logo, and Chanel and Chopard corners located on a mezzanine level accessed by stairs. While each corner incorporates a different concept depending on the brand, the entire store is decorated in champagne gold and beige, and features wave patterns reminiscent of the Vallée de Joux, famous for watchmaking, creating a bright, open, and unified atmosphere common to all Time Valley stores. As store manager Nobuyuki Tsubame explains, "Within the unified world of Time Valley, you can enjoy all the brands from a flat perspective," and one of its features is the seamless layout with no partitions between the corners, instead maintaining appropriate spacing. In other words, it is easy to compare and consider various brands without becoming immersed in just one. This is a design that is truly befitting of a store that proudly proclaims itself a multi-brand boutique.
The store also features large windows on the north side that let in plenty of natural light. This allows customers to try on watches and see how they look in various weather conditions, not just indoors, which is a great advantage for them.
The Historiques collection revives the company's masterpieces using modern technology. This particular model is a reinterpretation of a watch released for the American market in 1921. The diagonally laid-out dial and the crown positioned between 1 and 2 o'clock are not only original but also practical. Manual winding (Cal. 4400 AS). 21 jewels. 28,800 vibrations/hour. Furthermore, Tsubame says, "While other ISHIDA stores are appealing because they each have their own unique character and regional characteristics, Time Valley maintains a globally consistent concept while constantly thinking about how to express what makes it uniquely Japanese, and one of only a few flagship stores in the world." For example, changing the flowers in the store's interior seasonally, or stocking a wide selection of moon phase watches during the moon-viewing season, are just some of the ways they try to entertain customers by incorporating Japanese cultural events.

This new Ingenieur SL retains the distinctive features of the original design by Gerald Genta in the 1970s, while updating the exterior design and movement. The grid dial, a symbol of the current Ingenieur, is colored in a unique "Aqua" hue, giving the wrist a light and airy feel when worn. JAEGER LECOULTRE
"IWC has a corner right next to Jaeger-LeCoultre, so being able to compare two brands with different styles is a unique strength of this multi-brand boutique," says Mr. Tsuchihashi. Just like the dignified collection, the corner itself exudes a calm atmosphere. The model he recommended was the "Reverso Tribute Duo Small Seconds." "Among the popular Reverso Tribute models, this one is particularly striking for the contrast between its deep blue dial and pink gold case. The reverse side has a silver dial, which changes the look, and it can also display a second time zone, making it highly practical," says Mr. Tsuchihashi.
Vacheron Constantin
Vacheron Constantin makes its presence felt in the spacious back of the first floor. "As one of the core brands within Time Valley, we have created a large space where customers can fully experience the maison's world," says Tsubame. Despite being close to the Ginza boutique, the store boasts a sufficient selection of products that rivals the boutique itself. Among them, the store recommends the "Historiques American 1921." "At first glance, the design is unique, but the balance of the dial design and the case thickness, which is kept to 8.06mm, make it a watch that looks great on the wrist. It is a highly refined timepiece that reflects Vacheron Constantin's design philosophy," says Tsubame.
IWC
"The compact display cases are set at an easy-to-view height, and the watches can be displayed categorized by collection, making it easy to choose a timepiece," explains Mr. Yamamuro, who is in charge of IWC. His recommended model is the "Ingenieur Automatic 40." "Although it is overshadowed by the famous watches designed by Gerald Genta, the Ingenieur is also a very well-made watch. I chose the model with the dial color named Aqua because of its vibrant color and because it is one of the few models among the representative 40mm diameter models that has a mirror-finished bracelet link. It has a more elegant look than other Ingenieur models," says Mr. Yamamuro.
