She will be taking on the role of MC for a new Sunday daytime program on TBS, her first time in 41 years.

A new program, "Shinya Ueda's Sunday Q," began airing on TBS's Sunday daytime slot on April 5, 2026. It's attracting a lot of attention because it's a complete departure from the time slot that "Akko ni Omakase!" had held for over 40 years.

The program's concept is "You too are involved in the news!". It's a weekly live information program that re-examines domestic and international news, which at first glance may seem unrelated to oneself, as a matter that concerns each individual viewer. Rather than panelists expressing their opinions as celebrities, the program is structured so that "ordinary citizens" from various backgrounds, such as parents and current university students, pose questions to experts. Its characteristic feature is the live feel in which questions are answered in real time, and it delves into a week's worth of news in a friendly atmosphere reminiscent of a neighborhood get-together.

Upon taking on the role of MC, Shinya Ueda expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "There's so much I don't know myself, so I plan to learn every day, learn and think together with the viewers, and sometimes learn from them as I go." With an experienced production team including the producer of "SanJapo," it will be interesting to see what kind of unique style this program will bring to the table, and how it develops in the future.

This will be Shinya Ueda's first time hosting a live information program, but with his amiable personality that appeals to a wide range of age groups and his witty conversational skills, he is an ideal choice for the new show. Currently, he has about 10 regular programs, including "Going! Sports&News," "Ueda to Onna ga Hoeru Yoru," and "Shabekuri 007," both as part of a duo and as a solo artist, and is expanding his field of activity to even newer stages.

From the birth of a fateful duo to 35 years in show business.

Shinya Ueda, now 55 years old, has been in the entertainment industry for 35 years. He and his longtime comedy partner, Teppei Arita, were classmates in the high school rugby club, and their common topics of conversation back then were professional wrestling and comedy. Ueda once told Arita that he would either become a professional wrestling reporter or a comedian in the future. The circumstances of their formation as a duo are also dramatic; they happened to reunite the day before sending their resumes to an agency and decided to apply together, making them truly a fated pair.

The duo's original name was "Kaijari Suigyo" (海珠里水魚). At the time, the show regularly featured name-changing competitions, in which Uchimura Teruyoshi of Uchan Nanchan would interview each duo about their characteristics and then propose a new name. Kaijarisuiyo's shared love of rugby led to the suggestion of changing their name to "The Try," but in one competition, their opponent, "Bacardi" (now "Summers"), lost and changed their name first. However, in a rematch the following year, Kaijarisuiyo lost and restarted as "Cream Stew."

After changing their name, they shifted their comedic style from primarily sketch comedy to focusing on variety shows and other talent activities, which led to their current wide range of activities. Although television programs sometimes portray them as "rivals" with "Summers," the two comedy duos actually get along well.

A photo of Masashi Sada and Kazuki Enari shows their friendship.

There is a photo of Shinya Ueda on Masashi Sada's official Instagram account. It was taken in 2022 when Shinya Ueda and Kazuki Enari both attended Masashi Sada's tour held at the Tokyo International Forum.

This image was posted on Masashi Sada's official Instagram account on June 19, 2022. The candid, off-duty shot of him with a carefree smile is striking. It features a hand-wound movement (Cal. CH 29-535PS), 28,800 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of approximately 65 hours. It has an 18K white gold case (39.4mm in height, 10.9mm in thickness) and is water-resistant to 3 atmospheres.

Shinya Ueda and Kazuki Enari are so close that they travel together both domestically and internationally. They also frequently attend dinner parties hosted by Masashi Sada, known as "The Gathering to Surround Masashi Sada," where they have deepened their relationships with other members such as Kazlaser, Gekidan Hitori, Kosaka Daimaou, and Nobukobu Yoshimura. This rich network of relationships that transcends industry boundaries is undoubtedly one of Shinya Ueda's charms.

And if you look closely at this three-shot photo, you can see a wristwatch on Shinya Ueda's right arm.

The watch adorning Shinya Ueda's right wrist was the Patek Philippe "Complication" Ref. 5170G-010. This watch, with its white gold case and black dial, gives an intellectual impression, and while it has a chronograph function, its elegance far outweighs any sporty flair.

Let's take a look back at the history of this model. Patek Philippe unveiled the "5170J" (yellow gold), their first hand-wound chronograph equipped with an in-house movement, in 2010. Its compact 39.4mm case diameter and the combination of Breguet numerals and a pulsometer were praised as innovative. The "5170G" with a white gold case was added in 2013, and the black dial version worn by Shinya Ueda appeared in 2015. In the black dial version, the pulsometer is omitted, but the Breguet numerals are laid out larger, further improving legibility.

Like Shinya Ueda, Kazuki Otake of the comedy duo "Summers" also wears his watch on his right arm. In Otake's case, it's known that he wears it on his right hand so that it doesn't hit his partner, Masakazu Mimura, when he's making a joke. Shinya Ueda, who is in charge of the straight man role in "Cream Stew," may also wear his watch on his right arm for a similar reason, given his position and mannerisms on stage. Furthermore, figures like George Tokoro and Sanma Akashiya also wear their watches on their right arm, and perhaps there's an advantage in being able to check the time without being noticed by those around them while hosting an event.

Shinya Ueda is rumored to own numerous luxury watches. Among them, his Patek Philippe "Complication" is a watch whose price range might make some hesitate to wear it for everyday use. The fact that he wears it so casually and naturally shows the kind of confidence and ease that only a top-class celebrity can pull off. Even his watch style is perfectly at home...that's Shinya Ueda.
