Ulysse Nardin has unveiled its new "Superfreak" watch. This timepiece is the most complex time-only watch ever, featuring a carousel mechanism, a double flying tourbillon, and a seconds display.

Ulysse Nardin has unveiled its new "Superfreak," touted as "the most complex time-only watch ever." Developed over four years to embody high holology, high technology, and high craftsmanship, this model represents the culmination of the "Freak" series, which has continued to evolve for 25 years since its inception.
This model, the culmination of Ulysse Nardin's iconic "Freak" series, is dedicated to time display. It features a carousel mechanism and a double flying tourbillon. Automatic winding (Cal. UN-252). 42 jewels. 18,000 vibrations/hour. Power reserve of approximately 72 hours. 18K white gold case (44mm diameter, 16.54mm thickness). 30m water resistance. Limited edition of 50 pieces worldwide. 55,946,000 yen (including tax).
The HourDisk is made from NanoSital®, an optically transparent polycrystalline material developed through controlled crystallization of glass. It combines high transparency, optimal density, and excellent hardness, and its light blue color represents Ulysse Nardin's connection to the ocean.
Atop it sits a massive carousel mechanism, a symbol of the Freak. This carousel mechanism rotates once every hour and features two titanium flying tourbillons tilted at a 10-degree angle, providing a thrilling display of movement. The balance wheel and hairspring are made of silicon, and the escapement uses DiamondSil®, which is silicon coated with diamonds to enhance its hardness. Furthermore, this is the first Freak watch to incorporate a seconds display, and a rotating cylindrical part allows for more accurate timekeeping.
The complex structure of this timepiece is made possible by a specially developed differential and gimbal. The differential averages the speed of the tourbillon while simultaneously transferring energy to the gimbal. The gimbal then transmits the received energy to the cylindrical seconds display.
To stably drive the energy-intensive carousel and double tourbillon, a superior automatic winding mechanism was essential. This model employs proprietary Grinder® technology, which minimizes the dead angle and achieves highly efficient winding.
The case is made of 18K white gold. It is fitted with a gray rubber ballistic strap.
