The "Laureato Three Gold Bridges," a special timepiece released in a limited edition of only 50 pieces to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Laureato, is now available at ISHDA Shinjuku. After fierce competition among retailers worldwide, one of these rare pieces has arrived. We would like to revisit the highlights of this timepiece, including comments from President and CEO Mitsutaka Ishida.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Laureato, a masterpiece of integrated bracelet watches, this timepiece fuses the traditional "Three Bridges," a symbol of Girard-Perregaux's advanced technology. The Cal.GP09620 movement, specially developed for this model, is one of the smallest movements in the maison's current tourbillon collection. Automatic winding. 33 jewels. 21,600 vibrations/hour. Power reserve of approximately 55 hours. Stainless steel and 18K white gold case (41mm diameter, 10.85mm thickness). 30m water resistance. An artistic fusion of the Maison's two iconic pieces.
Girard-Perregaux was the first Swiss watch brand to be officially imported into Japan. Watch specialty store ISHIDA has shown special respect for the maison, which has contributed to the popularization of watches in Japan, and has conveyed its appeal to customers. They have also sold various special pieces in the past. Even from the perspective of someone who has a good understanding of the maison, Mitsutaka Ishida says that the "Laureato Three Gold Bridge" is an exceptional piece.
Needless to say, the biggest selling point is the beautiful fusion of the traditional "Three Bridges" movement design, conceived by Constant Girard in 1867, with the "Laureato," which is also a symbol of the Maison.
While models combining the Three Bridges with the Laureato have appeared several times in the past, this is the first time such a bold skeletonization has been applied. The three white gold bridges supporting the mainspring barrel, gear train, and tourbillon carriage are openworked from top to bottom, and the other parts have been reduced to the absolute minimum, making the specially developed caliber GP09620 appear as if it is floating in mid-air. The platinum micro-rotor is also hidden behind the mainspring barrel, which greatly contributes to the transparency of the design. The Three Bridges is a historical invention that elevates the internal structure itself, which was previously invisible from the outside, to the main focus of the design. This movement can be said to be a modern and cutting-edge development of that invention using today's advanced technology.
Regarding the GP09620, Mr. Ishida said he was impressed not only by its design and structure, but also by its incredibly elaborate finish.
"There are 418 corners, 362 of which are interior corners, and every single one of them has been beautifully polished by hand. This is particularly evident at the ends of the three bridges, for example. Normally, the edges of interior corners tend to be a little softer, but these are incredibly sharp. You can tell that a highly skilled craftsman spent a considerable amount of time polishing them. This uncompromising attention to detail gives the entire movement a dazzling brilliance, as if it were alive."
The stainless steel exterior features a sharper tonneau shape, inspired by the original Laureato from 1975, further enhancing its contemporary appeal. It's also noteworthy that, despite being a tourbillon model, it maintains a compact 41mm diameter and 10.85mm thickness.
"The octagonal bezel in white gold features a polished finish on the curved edges, contrasting with the satin finish on the surface, beautifully highlighting the distinctive design of the Laureato, which combines octagons and circles. The wide bevel on the case edges, which extends to the integrated bracelet, is another key feature, allowing light to be collected more efficiently from all angles. The finish on the crown, engraved with the GP logo, is also noteworthy. Despite being such a small part, it features multiple finishes, including satin, polished, and brushed."
This piece not only fuses two symbols of the Maison, but also embodies all the craftsmanship that Girard-Perregaux has cultivated over two centuries. Those interested should definitely visit the store to see its artistic finish for themselves.
