In March 2026, Omega unveiled the "Constellation Observatory." This new collection, despite being a "two-hand" watch displaying only hours and minutes, garnered attention for being certified as a Master Chronometer. What I realized during my week-long wear review of the Constellation Observatory was Omega's watchmaking prowess, which shone not only in the movement but also in the exterior.

The "Constellation Observatory" was born as a "two-hand" Master Chronometer certified watch.
On March 26, 2026, Omega released the "Constellation Observatory" as a new collection within the "Constellation" line.
The Constellation is Omega's high-precision automatic chronometer model, born in 1952. As a symbol of "high precision," its name and design evoke the observatory chronometer competitions where watch accuracy was once judged and Omega itself won numerous awards. Although the design and specifications have changed with the times, the release of the "Constellation Globemaster" in 2015 feels like it embodies Omega's history of pursuing high precision. This model was Omega's first to adopt the Master Chronometer certification.

The Constellation Globemaster was launched by Omega alongside the Master Chronometer series. Note that "Globemaster" was the model name given to the Constellation sold in the North American market. Automatic movement (Cal. 8900). 39 jewels. 25,200 vibrations/hour. Power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Stainless steel case (41mm diameter). 100m water resistance. Discontinued.
The Master Chronometer certification is a quality standard for the accuracy and performance of watches, jointly developed by Omega and METAS (Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). In addition to high accuracy of 0 to +5 seconds or 0 to +7 seconds per day, watches that pass eight tests, including magnetic resistance, water resistance, and power reserve, are certified as Master Chronometers. The magnetic resistance standard, in particular, which requires a resistance of 15,000 gauss or more, is a testament to Omega's high level of technical expertise and uncompromising commitment to performance.
Approximately 10 years after the release of the Constellation Globemaster, the Constellation Observatory has become a model that reminds us once again of the Constellation's positioning. This is because, despite being a "two-hand" wristwatch that displays only hours and minutes, it has received Master Chronometer certification.

Normally, it is difficult to check the fine precision without a second hand. However, according to an article written by Hiroyuki Suzuki, editor of our magazine Contri, certification was made possible by "acoustic testing technology based on 'Laboratoire de Precision (LdP)'." For details, please refer to the source article, but it seems that the inspection is conducted over 25 days, using the ticking sound of the clock as the standard (quoted:https://www.webchronos.net/features/159099/).
I borrowed a model from this collection, which embodies Omega's passion for high precision and is a symbol of the Constellation line, featuring an O-MEGA steel case and a black ceramic dial, and wore it for a week. Its capabilities were clearly evident not only from the movement but also from its exterior.

Even the watch expert was surprised by the intricately crafted dial!
When I was wearing this watch, people in the editorial department often asked me, "Is that perhaps the new Constellation?" When I replied that it was and showed them the watch, our editor-in-chief, Professor Hirota Masayuki, looked at the dial intently and asked, "Could you ask if this is made of Nivarox fir?"
Nivarox FAR is a brand under the Swatch Group, to which Omega belongs, and is known as a supplier of balance springs. Hirota noticed that the dial, especially the indices, was made with great precision and suspected that this supplier might have been responsible for it. When he inquired with Omega, they confirmed that this was indeed the case.

The indices are kite-shaped, unlike those of previous Constellation models, and the entire piece is polished to a shine using diamonds. Upon closer inspection, as Hirota pointed out, these small parts have multiple facets, and despite their slender, dressy appearance, they possess a strong three-dimensional quality that gives them a prominent presence on the dial. The 18K white gold dauphine hands also have three facets and sparkle brightly when they catch the light. There is no luminous paint applied, suggesting that this is positioned as a dressy model rather than a sports model.
The dial is made of black ceramic. This is a unique feature of the Constellation Observatory, and while ceramic is highly corrosion-resistant and hard, it is also prone to breakage. Despite this, it retains the classic "pie-pan dial" design with dodecagonal facets around the outer edge. Many watch enthusiasts are impressed by Omega's recent use of ceramic. From the ceramic Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, which shines with a luster that at first glance resembles polished metal, to their mastery of this difficult-to-process material, it is clear that Omega is fully utilizing the scale advantages of the Swatch Group, which owns Comadur.
The ceramic dial is said to be the same thickness as other models. Also, the center is heavily polished, and when I tried to take a picture, my smartphone was reflected in it, so I inserted a promotional image.

The exterior quality is in line with the character of a "two-hand" Master Chronometer.
The most striking feature of the Constellation Observatory, to reiterate, is that it is a Master Chronometer despite being a "two-hand" watch. However, perhaps due to my own inclination towards watch "lookism," I felt that another character of this timepiece that rivals this remarkable merit lies in the quality of its exterior, including the aforementioned dial.
The Omega O-MEGA steel case, made from Omega's high-performance stainless steel, measures 39.4mm in diameter and 12.23mm in thickness. What's striking is its intricate design. While many "two-hand" dress watches have an authentic round form, this model has a unique shape, which contributes to its strong character. The lugs, which Omega calls "doglegs," are faceted and set with a step that gives the impression they are raised from the sides of the case. The bezel is also faceted, resulting in a design that is quite different from typical dress watches.


Thanks in part to its complex design, the case thickness is 12.23mm, which is by no means thin, and it has a three-dimensional feel. Therefore, this is not a pure dress watch. Perhaps it is in this point that we can see the high quality of Omega's exterior in terms of aesthetics. It has broken away from the framework of two-hand = dress watch and established a new genre that was previously unheard of: "a two-hand watch with a strong presence."

The case back is transparent, allowing you to admire the Master Chronometer-certified movement Cal. 8914. This Cal. 8914 is not only highly functional, but it also boasts many aesthetically noteworthy features, such as an observatory-motif medallion, a rhodium-plated rotor adorned with arabesque Côtes de Genève decoration, similarly decorated bridges, and meticulously polished screws and jewels, making it a highly desirable piece to own.

Regarding accuracy, to be honest, I didn't know how to measure it because it's a two-hand watch (and I didn't use a timegrapher since it has a Co-Axial escapement). While I hardly noticed any time deviation during a week of wear, I can't say anything precise since I didn't measure it. Nevertheless, its groundbreaking status as the "first two-hand Master Chronometer" remains undeniable, and considering its practical features such as magnetic resistance and a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, it's clear that Omega's expertise shines not only in its exterior but also in its movement.

A superb work that allows you to fully appreciate Omega's watchmaking.
I reviewed the Omega Constellation Observatory, a watch launched by Omega in 2026, which features a two-hand design and is certified as a Master Chronometer.
While I honestly couldn't experience the "precision" that is supposed to be a major strength, the extremely high quality of the exterior and the specifications that allow for reliable daily use fully demonstrate the current state of Omega's technical capabilities. Approximately 10 years after establishing the Master Chronometer, Omega's watchmaking continues to evolve.
