Celebrating its 150th anniversary and moving to a new factory, IWC is in high spirits. In recent years, the company has focused on strengthening its in-house calibers, creating more robust heartbeats. The 52 series caliber, featuring the famous Pellaton automatic winding system, has achieved high precision and a long power reserve by increasing the vibration frequency and replacing wear parts with ceramic. The caliber 52000 has two barrels and boasts a power reserve of over seven days.
Continuing IWC's tradition of high-quality automatic movements, the in-house calibre 82000 now features ceramic components exposed to significant stress.The highly efficient Pellaton automatic winding system extends the power reserve to 60 hours.
The Caliber 89000 series is a high-performance chronograph movement with a flyback function, and is used in models with large digital displays (date and month) and models with subdials for displaying hours and minutes. Flyback mechanisms are prone to malfunction with frequent use, but IWC has succeeded in developing a flyback mechanism that is less susceptible to failure.
Masamasa Hirota, editor-in-chief of Chronos Japan, visited the new IWC factory, which just opened this August. He will be holding an event to introduce the modern facilities he saw there, as well as three particularly noteworthy in-house calibers, all of which are carefully crafted.
