Swatch's new "FlyMagic" watch, the first to use innovative materials, finally arrives in Japan
At a time when expensive, precise mechanical watches were the standard, Swatch changed the face of the watch industry by introducing a wristwatch that shattered the conventional notion of an "affordable, casual Swiss-made watch." Now, the company has once again released an innovative, and what could be called "un-Swatch" product.
Swatch's Flymagic balance spring is made of the next-generation alloy Nivachron™. This titanium-based alloy boasts high magnetic resistance and temperature resistance, making it the perfect material for a balance spring.
However, silicon, a material with excellent magnetic resistance and temperature resistance, is already widely used in modern wristwatches, and is used in many of the Swatch Group's watches. So why did they choose to develop Nivachron™? What kind of material is Nivachron™? And why was it chosen by Swatch, among the Swatch Group's other brands, to incorporate it? At this point, Nivachron™ is still shrouded in mystery.
A special talk show will be held with Editor-in-Chief Masamasa Hirota, who will explain the magic of fly fishing.
The FlyMagic is the only wristwatch equipped with the new material Nivachron™️. Christophe Savio, President and CEO of Swatch Group Japan, will also be participating on the day of the event. After the talk show, there will be a social gathering where attendees can freely try out FlyMagic watches, and snacks and drinks will be available.
Additionally, a Fly Magic pop-up store will be open for a limited time from June 11th (Tue) to June 16th (Sun) at the Daikanyama T-SITE GARDEN GALLERY, where the event will be held. Only 45 Fly Magic pens will be available in Japan (15 pens each in three colors), and these rare pens will only be available at the pop-up store during the event.
